Dark Souls Lands September 30 Release Date?

Oh come on, we need something more accurate than "late 2011." That just isn't good enough for the hardcore Demon's Souls fans!

Atlus has attached that rather vague "late 2011" launch date to Dark Souls, the spiritual successor to one of the best PlayStation 3 exclusive titles. But as a reader pointed out to us, GameFly has given the game an exact release date: September 30, 2011. Maybe the service knows something retailers don't, as Amazon and GameStop still have the placeholder date of December 31, 2011. Obviously, GameFly's date isn't the be-all, end-all and it's hardly a confirmation, but it's still encouraging. September 30 might not be a bad date; it would be available just before the typical October/November crunch, and right in between great titles like Resistance 3 (September 6), Batman: Arkham City (October 18), and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (November 1).

At any rate, whenever it arrives, we're willing to bet that RPG fans everywhere will be paying attention.

Oh sh**!! That's the same month Disgaea 4 releases! Will be a very busy month with both being my "must buys" for this year, along with Catherine and Tales of Graces F (if it comes out this year).

Wow, that is great news! I wasn't expecting this until Holiday 2011. Resistance 3 and Rage also come out in September! Wow, my wife is going to kill me at some point this year! May, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Brink and LA Noire! Ahhhh......thud (fainted)

We don't really have enough info to judge that yet, but Demon's Sous certainly wasn't. From Software have stated that they intend to make it more challenging, but haven't really specified how. From what I've seen though, the combat looks similar to the original title, and that alone makes me think that it'll turn a lot of people off.

Atlus isn't publishing this game and has nothing to do with its creation, so I'm not sure I'd trust anything they have to say regarding a release date.

Damn... if this is right, then it's only going to be a few days before Twisted Metal. Well, we know that Namco seem to have a liking for releasing their games in a tight spot (Read: Enslaved/Knights Contract).

Maybe the word buzzing about Dark Souls being the successor to Demon's Souls will be enough to elevate the game beyond that and actually sell well. Or maybe it'll remain too niche and be a commercial average-seller. Though I like that From Software is self-publishing in Japan. I wonder why they chose to take that route, but go to Namco for the worldwide duties, particularly since the publisher is porting it to the 360... Actually, maybe that explains it.

Wow that is a lot earlier than I would have guessed. I'm guessing it's wrong, but that would be awesome if it was right.

Only downside is that I'm not sure if I'll be ready to take a break from WKC2 yet.

Funny, I know what you mean. It's going to be hard splitting time between WKC2 and DS. Two rpgs! Amazing how much we miss rpgs...or the 'rpg days.'

If this date is right it just means that a lot of other games will have to wait to get played. Dark Souls is THE game I'm going to be playing all the way to December and next year. Probably tied with WKC2.

Man, I hope it does well, Demon's Souls was an amazing game.

I just completed Demon's Souls and starting NG+. I have to say that from the trailer that the bosses are looking a lot cooler.
