"No Difference" Between PS3 And 360 Versions Of Battlefield 3
It's a common question amongst gamers these days: "Will the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions be the same?"
When it comes to Battlefield 3, most all the footage we've seen thus far has been taken from the PC version. Then there was one little tidbit from the developer, who said the PS3 version "has a lead by offloading GPU w/SPUs." But in speaking to MSXBOX-World, DICE boss Patrick Bach seeks to reassure everyone by saying the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the highly anticipated shooter will be the same.
"Our philosophy is to not to talk about things we cannot prove and this is true also when it comes to the quality of the Xbox 360 version of the game. All of the core game systems (animation, destruction, rendering, audio etc.) are the same on all platforms so there will not be a difference when it comes to the general experience of the game. Some technicalities will of course be different due to larger memory and the graphics cards you can have on the PC. We are trying to push the envelope of FPS games in general and this will be obvious in all versions of the game. Looking back to what quality we achieved with Battlefield Bad Company 2 last year we do know how to make high quality games on all platforms."
Now, there's little doubt that Battlefield 3 will look fantastic on every platform; it's really only a matter of small things that may excel due to hardware differences. Currently, it seems the graphical benchmark for multiplatform FPSs has been set by Crytek's Crysis 2, but from what we've seen of DICE's project, the bar could be raised yet again by the end of the year. And all gamers on all platforms should be happy.

If you buy Battlefield 3 instead of MW3 you rule, plus you won't support mediocrity by skipping CoD, a win/win!

Also note the source is speaking to a Xbox userbase.
It simply isn't in the pubs/devs best interested to cause social unrest by declaring platform superiority. There's tender and easily irratable feelings out there and I'm sure devs dont want to answer, or look at, the hate mail.
Now I dont think its beyond the realm of possibilty that the two platforms could have near identical BF3. But in light of DICE dev presentation slides it is curious.
Though, I will say, games like Split Second and Blur offloaded lighting and rendering tasks to SPUs and, yet, the 360 version still edged them out, with Split Second dev,Blackrock, giving credit to the "very powerful" Xenos GPU.
This will be an interesting development to watch.

if you look at the the multiplat face offs on places like the digitlal foundry the 360 has won 229 faceoffs vs 11 for the ps3. as a ps3 owner i have become conditioned to expect the ps3 version to be inferior. i guarantee the 360 version will be better somehow. i'd bet my house on it.

DF does use proprietary technology to capture images directly from the frame buffer. They also use state of the art video capturing technology that counts frames and screen tearing.
I will say it's fair to acknowledge that many of those wins are scrutinized under the most detailed conditions. Conditions that I'd image many gamers wouldn't care too much for either way.
I, for one, would like having the best version of multiplats so I do go out of my way to determine the best version before I plan a buy. And, as a result, the majority of my multiplats are on 360

i'd still bet my house the ps3 version will be inferior somehow. unless their name is squareenix or konami i never believe them. didn't dice do bfbc2? that game didn't look so great and had a lot of screen tearing. moh didn't look so hot either, and dice was part of that.

multiplats have improved, but i still see differences. i don't think i'll ever be able to accept inferior multiplats or stop complaining about it. especially when we get these reassurances from developers. i think its a valid topic of concern as a ps3 owner. you might feel the differently about the matter, and i would not presume to tell you how to feel about it. you call the differences negligible, but i feel differently about it. i did not say they were big differences, or that ps3 multiplats are terrible. i just feel they are not up to parity yet. mulltiplat games just look bettter on the 360. i would call the differences small, but noticable.

And you can't forget some people usually use color correction to make the videos look more better than what they really are.
There are multiplats that look better on PS3 than 360 and vice versa, it's not really that bad as you claim it to be. GTA4 was better on PS3 than 360 as Crysis 2 was better on 360 than PS3.

apolopgy accepted. btw i don't own a 360, but all my friends do so i am always comparing. i am no ms fan, and wouldn't touch their hardware. i'm pretty much a hardcore sony fan so that's why i feel a little let down my multiplats in general. there are exceptions, and the situation has gotten a lot better, but i still see small but noticable differences in many games.

I've seen Crysis 2 on the PS3, 360 and high-end PC. I only noticed anything significant on the PC version but for the record, I'm not about to shell out what that person paid for his monster rig. The difference wasn't THAT gigantic.
As for the PS3 and 360 versions, people can say what they want. I saw very little difference, and especially none that hampered gameplay. I went all the way through Crysis 2 on the PS3 and never noticed an unstable frame rate. It remained entirely smooth throughout.
I'm not sorry I played it on the PS3 and I seriously doubt I would've gotten any more enjoyment out of it if I had played it on the 360. This isn't Bayonetta; that was a port problem that affected the gameplay, and it was a definite issue. Whether or not a brick in a building is a little sharper doesn't bother me. I'm playing a GAME. :)

inferior multiplats and short games spammed with dlc are 2 of my biggest gripes about this gen.

What everyone should be more concerned with is how the 360/PS3 version will look compared to the PC clips that EA keeps releasing.

Then by making their game for PS3 as the leading console & then porting it over to the Bot Box, it should the best of both worlds.
And everybody comes away happy.

the guys that made kz3 should be out there teaching people how to code for the ps3. that game makes every other shooter on the ps3 look ancient so we know it can be done.
btw how's your ps3 doing? is it fixed yet?

No, some $^&*%^$ post office monkey smashed the right side of it in(along side the disc opening, & then delivered my PS3 to the repair shop.
And to top it off, he post office has giving me the run-around about my claim although I put an additional $500 insurance on it.
The repair shop emailed me last night, saying that they CAN replace my PS3's whole shell, but it's going to be another $75 to do it. I hope that won't change my serial # cause I want to keep the same numbers for some security reasons.
Anyway, the repair shop has put all of my PS3 repairs on hold till I get back to them about the added repairs.
I should be calling them in a few minutes to figure out what to do.
F*cking postal service! Never again will the USPS get a package of any value from me!!!

there are 2 multiplat games that i know of that came out better on the ps3. ff13, and castlevannia. it's sad but true. 99.99% of the time if you're playing a multiplat on the ps3 it is the weaker version.
