Prototype 2 Trailer Looks Promising

The first Prototype was entertaining, but there's always room to grow and improve.

Check out this new trailer for the sequel, which definitely looks more promising. A few of the developers talk about the project and we get a chance to see some eye-popping scenarios. In terms of gameplay, we hope to see more in the coming months but it may take some time; the title isn't slated to hit store shelves until next year.

Many will make immediate comparisons to Sucker Punch's inFamous but this time around, the sequels won't be anywhere near each other. inFamous 2 will be ready to go on June 7, so you won't have to make a tough decision; come 2012, you might want to give Prototype 2 a chance.

Ah, poor Prototype. It'll be fun to see just how many times Infamous will get referenced on this message board =p

Hehe, yeah. Prototype is like anti-infamous, the evil twin of inFamous.

I know it Temjin, I was about to type that. But there are 2 things people don't realize, 1 inFAMOUS > Prototype and the ever obvious one, Exclusives > Multiplatform games. Simple no?

Yeah, I'm not knocking Infamous--it is awesomeness. And if I recall, Prototype was poo poo. Poo poo that stinks..... bad. (Sorry, MK puts me in a disgusting mood)

Hey is anyone else enjoying Microbots? That little scene of the bady entering the cell reminded me of it. I love Microbots.

Prototype was one of the worst games I've played this gen. Bad story, bad voice acting, bad character designs, ugly graphics, terrible missions, boring and lazy visuals and more. I rented it and I still want my $5 bucks back. The only good thing about the game was doing the little Hulk run through the streets tossing cars and people out of your way and running on the sides of building but that gets old after 15 minutes.

The new main character looks even less charismatic than Mercer.

The first game had the most boring, generic, cut-n-paste representation of NYC ever. Why go there twice? This "sequel" looks damn near identical to the first.

Go Infamous 2!! :)

Ha, still makes me laugh. When I bought Infamous on day one at the Gamestop by my work, the register biscuit insisted I buy the "Xbox version" then proceeded to pull out a copy of Prototype. I just laughed and said no thanks. I don't know if he was joking or was serious.

I never played the first due to Infamous of course. When choosing between 2 games an exclusive will always win.

Speaking of Infamous, I got into the UGC beta last night thanks to a friend and psn was down so I couldn't actually do anything but run around and try out some powers.

FYI some of the new powers are wicked bad. I can tell you that as evil Cole I will definitely enjoy picking up cars and chucking them at people. I don't want to give everything away, but a lot of stuff has been upgraded and it rules.

One of the main reasons I never picked up the first Prototype and have no intention of ever doing so is because the character aspect of the first game was so badly done it's ridiculous, especially on the part of the main protagonist. This video here sums it up nicely:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckWj024qL0E

Although interestingly enough this is also why I find the sequel interesting. If Alex Mercer is going to be made into the main villain, as well he should be, then Prototype 2 might actually turn out to be something resembling halfway decent. And of course the fact that it's not going to be butting heads with the inFAMOUS IP, unlike it's predecessor, is also a plus.

Even so, I still doubt that it's going to be as good as inFAMOUS 2. When it comes to creativity, Sucker Punch has an definite edge over Radical Entertainment.

This game is from activation. I don't like them.
maybe they will make it better than the first one. as for graphics and gameplay. from what I saw infamous 2 trump every ps3 exclusive. it has
so many things going on on screen and its a sandbox game. I couldn't believe my eyes. and almost no pops in. that's what I saw from the videos.

In another word there should be some kind of miracle for prototype 2 to surpass infamous 2.

It wasn't that bad a game, nothing compared to inFamous but still fun in its own way. I think there was lots of room to make it a better game but I would have rather played as Mercer. I bought the first one at a reduced price and I'll probably do that for this too, but I hope they manage to get past the bad missions and generic feel.

I plan on getting it, but haven't found it for less than $30 yet, which is still more than I'm willing to pay.

I'll get it one day when I find it for sale for like $15. Then I'll enjoy it even if it is just meh.

I'm currently playing it now. I don't think it's bad at all. Yeah it's not as great as infamous but it's still fun in it's own right. In my opinion anyways.

@Kraygen

If you have a Gamestop near you, then they have it for under $12..

Prototype wasn't that bad of a game. But it certainly couldn't match up to inFamous. It's worth the bargain bin pick up. I just haven't found time to go back and finish it personally..

I also bought Prototype on the cheap, $15.
While it certainly wasn't any inFamous, I still had fun playing it.

But what the hell do I know, I even liked Haze
(another one bought the super-cheap, of course).

Will Prototype 2 still play like Hulk Ultimate Destruction? If so, I'm gonna pass and pick it up cheap like I did for the first.

I've been picking up quite a few games for cheap lately, and Prototype is one that I'd intended to get, but forgotten about. Thanks for reminding me (Activision, so it'll be a preowned copy). As for the sequel, unless it really impresses the critics or the first really impresses me, I'll be taking the same route. So far it doesn't seem all that different from the original and as a result I'm entirely unimpressed.
Peace.

Yeah, same here, anything with the word Anti-vision on it, gets the "Used & Under $20, Bargain Bin" treatment from me.

I liked Prototype a bit more than Infamous. The powers were great, even if some were derivative of Ultimate Destruction. The Patsy power where, disguised as a general, you could point out any nearby soldier to be Alex Mercer and the other soldiers would surround gun him down, was particularly enjoyable. I really liked the way the story was told with the Web of Intrigue for the past, the game itself for the present, and the conversation above a destroyed NYC for the future. I'm excited for this and I'm really glad Activision is giving Radical time to make the best game they can.

Prototype was ok but not ok enogh for me to keep it I traded it but have kept Infamous. I enjoyed Infamous just sometimes getting those shards were a pain some of them we very hard to get.
I should finish it off before the 2nd one comes soon.
I'll wait on reviews before buying Prototype 2.

Prototype 1 had the best crowd and traffic mechanics I have ever seen in a game. The crowd panicked and ran away from you so realistically, and cars would actively try to avoid you (realistic physics involved with them slamming on the brakes and skidding into other cars too). Its probably the smartest car drivers and crowds I've ever seen in a game, and like I've said before, some of the most realistic.

Too bad the only other good thing about the game was fighting in the zones where the army was actively fighting the infection. That was fun as hell. The rest of the game, though, with its crappy story, voice acting, character design, and graphics were not good at all. Its a decent rental at best, and so far this one looks to be shaping up to be, at the most, a good rental at best.

Oh sure, I hope its a good game, but from what I've seen so far it looks like more of the same from the first one (except this time we've got a character with a less-cool sounding name and less personality than Alex Mercer).
