Portal 2 Likely Valve's Last "Isolated Single-Player" Game
Besides a great co-op feature, Portal 2 doesn't include a multiplayer option.
That makes it an odd duck by today's standards, regardless of the obvious excellence of Valve's puzzle-based masterpiece. Many are wondering what the developer's approach will be concerning possible new titles like Half-Life 2: Episode 3, and "Portal 2: The Final Hours" writer Geoff Keighley gives us a hint concerning the single-player focus. Thanks to a new blog update, we learn that Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last foray into an "isolated single-player experience." When asked to explain this, Keighley responded:
"Good eye! This is coming from Valve, although I don’t have a lot more to share other than what is in the story. I agree it’s a provocative statement, especially given the amazing single player storyline in Portal 2. Keep in mind Valve said 'probably,' so I get the feeling that this could change."
There are many ways to interpret the term "isolated single-player." Perhaps they're merely talking about adding competitive multiplayer for any new game they do, or - and this likely won't go over well with the fans - they're referring to the possibility of never creating another story or campaign that is only single-player in nature. What do you think their intentions are, and better yet, what do you think their intentions should be?

valve stopping storytelling is like blizzard stopping WOW, MMOs, and goes on to make stealth games!
valve are one of the very few developers who do stories flawlessly, so there never going to leave that behind!
adding MP will probably definitely happen, but there never going to leave the story behind!

but, fortunately, portal 2 does not need multiplayer. it is a monnument by its self. the co-op is some of the most fun i've had on the ps3 in along time. if valve added maybe a DLC with additional puzzles, this game would be perfect. in my opinion, of course.
