Rumor: Source Leaks Starhawk Details

Lightbox founder Dylan Jobe says he "can't wait" to talk about his team's newest project, which everyone assumes to be Starhawk, the spiritual successor to Warhawk.

But before it's officially announced, it appears a Sony employee has prematurely leaked some early details:

Firstly, the source confirms the game is indeed Starhawk, and secondly, it will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, although it'll ship as a Blu-Ray disc (not sure if it'll also be available on the PSN). Thirdly, the game will be unveiled before E3; some time in May, in fact. Fourthly, as far as gameplay goes, we'll be looking at a similar structure to Warhawk, which will include jeeps, APCs, tanks, and now, spaceships. And here's more gameplay info:

"...you cannot fly from a planet into space. Some maps are set on a planet, with dogfights taking place in the air, while others are in space, with small areas for ground combat. The game is still set in another universe, so Earth will not feature."

Lastly, and this is our favorite part- while Starhawk will be centered on multiplayer, there will be a single-player campaign, which Warhawk certainly did not have. Incognito's online multiplayer title was indeed a blast, but we were always thinking, "man, a campaign would be cool."

Wonder why they would reveal it before E3, they should pack everything they can into that show. Then again they won't have to do much to be impressive next to the Xbox lineup: Gears 3, Halo 4 announcement, and something for Kinect that won't ever come out.

actually they done this last year to, announcing titles before the show and then followed up with trailers, i think it was K3 and a few other, kind of took some of the punch out of the announcement i thought.

The Warhawk game with the name StarHawk instead. Sounds like a better name for the game as how it plays.

i was late on getting my ps3 online so when i finally did get around to playing warhawk i thought it looked really dated. i guess that shows how far games have come over the yrears.

anyways, i'm still very interested in this game becuase we really don't have any space based flight combat games on the ps3. you know, something like the star wars starfighter or rogue squadron games. ii would love to see epic space battles with laser fire cutting accross the blackness of space in hi def.

i'm also pleased that this will apparently be a full budget boxed release. when i think of psn only games i think of low budget straight to dvd like releases.

Did I read "secondly" twice? Also, Is there a reason that it needs to be pointed out that this is a PS3 exclusive? Just wondering if there was even the slightest possibility that it wouldn't be.

Been waiting for a good space shooter so I hope this rumor rings true.

I kinda wish Sony didn't leak big announcements like this so easily, but regardless this is great news. Especially the single player campaign. The lack of one in Warhawk was the only reason I didn't buy it.

Me too,

Since it was only MP mode, I only bought it for $9 used just to add into my PS3 collection.

At least now, I'll be able to enjoy some SP with this new one.

Sweet deal, the no single player aspect of warhawk was what kept me from making a purchase. Looks like starhawk has a pretty good chance of getting some of my money.

DUDE, I'M SO EXCITED! Warhawk was the first game I bought when I picked up the ole' 60gig. It was AWESOME.
Yes this is early, real early... but this is a day one purchase for me! :D

My Birthday is in May, it would be a great present to get a reveal and info about this game.:D

sweet campaign too boot!
never got into warhawk simply because it was online only, and because it was out so early in the systems lifesycle finding a match was like trying to find a 4 leafed clover!
