What Is Sony Santa Monica's New Mystery Project?

Okay, what are you guys working on?!

Sony Santa Monica, the team behind those amazing God of War titles, is believed to be at work on God of War IV, which will likely be outed within the next few months (just trust us on that). However, recent job postings have raised plenty of questions: several weeks back, we heard about a job listing for a Senior Online Programmer, and that caused everyone to assume the new GoW would boast online multiplayer. But now, the Superannuation Twitter page has turned us onto two new job listings for the studio: a Level Designer with experience in "open world games" and a Senior Combat Designer that has experience in "both first- and third-person shooters" and "working with, developing or designing vehicle combat." Heck is that? A GTA knockoff? Anybody have any bright ideas?

We all know the fourth God of War will arrive at some point, and we're fairly certain Sony Santa Monica will develop it. But they have to be working on something else, don't you think...?

I hope it's open world like Infamous.

Grand Theft Auto: Mt. Olympus (When carjacking isn't enough)

If they can make another game even remotely close to GoW I'll try it.

Imagine how many prostitutes you can kill as you drive Helios' hijacked Chariot through the Red Light District. They'll be burning in more than one way if you know what I mean.

That's just crazy, but whatever it is it's gonna be good. Add this to Sucker Punch's new IP and the hype for PS3 exclusives just won't stop.

Sucker Punch has a new IP? Since when? And if that's the case... who's developing Sly 4? Sanzaru Games?

I think they are still doing Sly but I'll have to look into that, the comment made to PSNow! by an SP Spokesman said it wasn't related to sly or infamous but was a PS3 exclusive. Soon after the article was pulled at SP's request.

Maybe Sucker Punch is getting bigger.

WolfCrimson is right on that one.

Also, thanks for the info World. I'm already excited for it! Sucker Punch may not have the most polished games, but they're damn close to the most fun!
Peace.

The thing I read about Sony Santa Monica was that it was finished with the GOW series. That was shortly after GOW III released. I dont know if they have said anything different since then. Does anyone have any other info on this? Ben what have you heard of GOW IV I am excited about their new project and I cant wait to hear about it, but I think it will be something new. Especially when their looking for someone who has experiance in online, first and 3rd person shooters.

They stated that they have finished the GOW Trilogy. Not the series. They have left that door open. Like planting a seed if you will. It can grow if they wish or if fans water the idea.

Putting these elements together sounds a lot like the direction that I have always wished to go in with gaming. Or as I like to call it. Interactive Entertainment. To create the ultimate experience.

You play as the protagonist or antagonist. You choose. You navigate through an open extremely interactive world. When using weapons you maneuver in first or third person. When you enter a vehicle the game-play seamlessly changes to highly advanced Gran Turismo levels. When you engage an enemy in it transforms to Tekken like combat. Soul Caliber if utilizing weapons. All that with an Academy level story that absolutely immerses the participant.

I've discussed these concepts with some in the industry and have gotten positive feedback. Hopefully it comes to fruition. Wish me luck guys.

I like that idea of the game "transforming" into different styles in different situations. I really like that. Could call for a fresh approach to the sandbox experience.
So the "main" game is just a container of a plenitude of "minigames" that's not so mini, but rather "mediogames", and the main game's main task is to tie these together in a continuous overall story.

Yeah, this is quite the idea imo.

I recall someone from Santa Monica musing that there could be a God of War FPS, but I can't remember if they were actually being serious or not. Either way, I'm sure they're talented enough to pull it off. Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to this project.

Hey what? That seems to be quite the departure from God of War. I can't wait to see what they pull out of their sleeves with their next game. After GoWIII easily proved them to be one of the most technically proficient development teams in gaming today. Adding a new story and new mechanics can only be a good thing, and will help to refresh them.

Although this clearly means that it isn't Heavenly Sword 2... Sad face.
Peace.

Not a bad idea... but what if it's Eight Days? Their engine can nail the graphics from that trailer way back when.
