Sucker Punch: No Time To Add 3D Or Move To inFamous 2

It seems like most every big PlayStation 3 exclusive boasts 3D and PlayStation Move support these days.

But don't expect Sucker Punch's highly anticipated inFamous 2 to include such features. According to what creative director Nate Fox told European site GameZ.nl, the team simply didn't have enough time to incorporate such additions.

Furthermore, he said they'd rather focus on options for the nifty new user-generated content, which had been in beta testing until the Network went down. Fox stated that they want to "concentrate fully" on that new feature before looking into either 3D or Move, which sort of implies support for both could come at some point in the near future. It's just that time is running short and the designers clearly want to focus on the core aspects of the gameplay and presentation, which makes perfect sense. For our part, we really don't need either 3D or Move for this one; there are just some games that will be awesome on their own.

If you've forgotten, inFamous 2 hits store shelves on June 7, and we couldn't possibly be more excited.

Sounds good to me. Those features are merely "extras", if you ask me. Glad to hear (and yet not surprised) that they're focusing of getting what they've got done right!

Agreed. I don't even know how they would impliment PS Move into it anyway? Would you use the sharpshooter? Seems very unnecessary.

No need for the sharpshooter. It could work much like it worked for Socom or any 3rd person shooter for that matter. It could actually be pretty cool if done right but if they don't have time, I'd rather they not do it at all than try and rush it. They are making the right decision.

How does the option of using move affect how the developers made the guns' recoil?

And you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I know that the series and this installment in particular has a love/hate fan base, but the article you responded in has to do with an entirely different game. And yet you still sneak in a bash against Socom 4.

You sound suspiciously like drpacifist over on the SOCOM.com boards.

I don't see how move/sharpshooter implementation has anything to do with the removal of recoil in SOCOM 4. All recoil in FPS/TPS games are simulated by having the reticle bounce around on the screen when you hold down the trigger. Whether you compensate by moving your hand slightly, or your thumb it shouldn't make a difference as far as what your preferred control scheme is.

I'm Move's biggest fan! If this was a FPS we were talking about I'd be devastated. Since it's 3rd person with a free cam I'm not so sure. In theory it should be okay. Any game you could play with KB&M should be well suited to Move also.

Hopefully a future patch will show us just how versatile the Move is.

Thank GOD, all we need is inFamous having a half assed frame rate so more people can give themselves headaches. I don't care if they set up a patch later but for now it's much better that they focus on getting out a quality product without unnecessary delays for these frivolous children's curiosities.

The frame rate in 2D mode isn't affected by the addition of 3D. Killzone 3 and GT5 run great in 2D. Just as good as you would expect them to. Socom 4 runs at maximum frame rate and full resolution in both 2D and 3D. So the tech is improving. If they had more time, they could make the game in 3D and it would still run fantastic. But since they don't have the time I'm fine with them not implementing it at all.

I'm glad they are focusing on the gameplay, but 3D would've been awesome in this game. I can just imagine the kind of depth it would show being on top of a building looking out over the skyline. That would be so cool. Oh and looking down off of buildings to shoot the baddies. Again i'm glad that they are focusing on the gameplay but i really think this is a game that would do 3D well.

I agree with Jawk. So what if some of you think it's a gimmick or fad. It is fun and more engrossing. I guess it is in the eyes of the beholder. Oh well, whats great about having a 3d tv is that when not in 3D. They are some of the best looking tv's you can get. Win/Win!!! LOL

In regards to the 3D, I don't really care for it. Yet I know people who have 3D are bummed out. In my experience so far in seeing 3D games, they're kind of hit and miss right now in regards to "wow factor"..It's very different in each game I've seen..

Whats there to be bummed out at? It does 3D just how it says it does....But if you're expecting this fake-ass literally pop out the screen (inculding the edges of the screen) you're in for a rude awakening.

If you've been to the movies and have seen 3D you know what to expect. Im tired of people whining cause the image doesnt come off the screen past the boundries of the screen itself, thats absurd and as of now physically impossible.

KZ3's Split-screen indirectly benefited from the 3d r&d, but I'm expecting Socom's 4 gameplay, AI, and level design was simplified for the sake of Move accessibility (i haven't played it much yet despite having the bundle).

Since Split-screen isn't a part of inFamous (being a purely sp experience even with Create-Play-Share), I'm glad inFamous 2's designers will have the liberty to focus purely on story, visuals and tight gameplay & controls.

Glad to hear Sucker Punch were willing to take the decision to skip these new gimmick features that seem more like mandated than optional in most recent PS3 exclusives, and instead concentrate their efforts into making the game as good as possible!

Hopefully that will result in a better, more polished game and show in better overall review scores when it's released.

But Sucker Punch is second-party, so Sony really has no say over them. They are free to do entirely as they please.
