Shadows Of The Damned Crazy, But Not Over-The-Top

There's always a line. And if you cross it, things can just get "too crazy."

Shadows of the Damned, the dark action thriller from masterminds Shinji Mikami and Suda51, will boast plenty of outlandish, freaky imagery and an insanely visceral atmosphere. In terms of gameplay, there may be a few interesting tweaks on convention but Suda51 told NowGamer that overall, this game won't be "too over-the-top."

"We question constantly whether itís revolutionary or not and we always talk about new ideas when they come around with everyone, including EA. We donít want to be too out there, but we have to strive to make it unique and thatís a good balance to aim for. EA has been really understanding of what we want to do as weíve been working together."

But even if it won't cross that aforementioned line, Suda51 did say the game just got weirder as time went on. He said the project wasn't as "crazy" as it was when they first started, and EA didn't expect something quite so loopy, either. Apparently, though, it's about walking a fine line between hellish raucousness and accessible action.

At the very least, that all-star development cast automatically means Shadow of the Damned is worth a look when it arrives in June.

I like the whole punk atmosphere thing but from what I've seen so far the gameplay is looking too resident evil 5-ish.

Is it just me, or does it look like that Quentin Terantino 60's, 70's, or 80's double horror flic?

It almost has a hidden devil worship creepiness to it.

I'm digging the punk atmosphere.

Plus your skull guide will also turn itself into a weapon or your motorcycle when needed.

Oh, and he calls his longest gun the "Big Boner".

Iknow this is co-directed but Mikami's games have been getting better. This is on my radar.

Side Note - just got back from a great trip from NYC and I picked up Portal 2 while I was there. I wanna thankyou again Ben for that review, while only at chapter 4, it is such a great game.

I've started playing Portal now too, and agreed, it's so refreshing just the fact that we get to play something "else" than the typical ps3 action game, not to mention the striking quality of the entire production. It's just *so* worthy the 95%.

I have plenty of doubts when it comes to this game, I'd be glad to see it turn out great and if that's the case I'll buy it when I have the money. Thing is I'll be surprised if it gets a high 7 score.

I like crazy, but I prefer OTT. In some instances. I just hope that this isn't all blather and SotD (that seems almost sacrilegious, doesn't it?) actually turns out to be worthwhile taking a look at. It draws me in...
Peace.

another game to put on the want but wont have for a while list.
why do games always have to release together?
we have not had any games since portal 2 and MK, then 3 weeks break, then within 1 week we have brink, LA Noire, leggo POTC, then a week later infamous 2, RFA, DNF.
one day publishers will learn to spread out their games......... one day!

But this year there are practically not a month without a top notch game being released?

I've had to write them down, to get any oversight over my personal favs this year:
20 mai: LA Noire
20 mai: Brink (coop)
10 Juni: Infamous 2
29 juni: Fear 3 (coop)
26 august: Deux Ex
XX august: Saints Row 3 (coop)
06 september: Resistance 3 (coop)
XX september: Spider-Man: Edge Of Time
21 oktober: Batman
28 oktober: Mass effect 3 (GAME OF THE YEAR!)
02 november: Battlefield 3
XX November: Dead Island (4 player coop)

... Except for the holiday month july they are pretty darn well spread out imo!

Yeah, this year is just too stacked to get any good space in between releases. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to watch most of them go whizzing by... I have not the time, and soon I'll not have the funds for all of them. And July has Catherine. Twisted Metal in October. UC3 in November. Silent Hill at the end of the year, El Shaddai whenever it comes out. Skyrim in November and Disgaea in October. The Cursed Crusade... I'm just going to stop before I start crying at all the goodness I'm going to have to wait a year or more to play...

Nah, I'll still get some of them. Certainly not most though.

not really the first 2 weeks of april were empty, the first 2 weeks of may are empty, almost first game to release is BRINK which releases on the 12th which is 2 days off 2 weeks.
first 9 days of june are empty.
all of july is empty.
first few weeks of aug are also empty.
only months that have a game releasing each week is the usual nov and oct others have at least 1 week deserted.
thats the problem with games these days, you either A finish half the game so you can play everything else.
or B miss out on half of the games!
even if you have the funds to pay for them all, you would need to stay home 24/7 to have enough time to play them all!
come to think of it, i guess short games are not such a bad thing after all..........
