Latest Assassin's Creed Teaser Drops Date, Setting Hint
They keep tossing up short teaser videos for the new Assassin's Creed, and we're already begging for more info.
The latest, which you can see below, offers us a couple of setting hints: the first is a date- 24.06.1459, which definitely hints at an Altair-type setting. The second tidbit also reminds us of the original AC; the building in the background is the Hagia Sophia mosque located in Istanbul.
It becoming clearer that the original protagonist - and perhaps portions of the original setting - will return in Assassin's Creed III. We didn't have any problem with Brotherhood, which was a direct sequel to Ezio's story in ACII, and we're fairly certain Ubisoft writers can come up with a great follow-up plot for Altair. What do you think?

It looks like multiple time periods may be involved.
I love the choice of settings. It works for both Altair (Constantinople during the crusades) and Ezio (Constantinople/Istanbul around the time of the Turkish invasion).

But what about ac3?
Last I heard about it one of the big wigs included with ac3 said they were looking to fans to see what the next setting would be and that they were thinking of a south american or asain setting I'm memory serves me.
Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be ac 3 though. A direct sequel involving altiar would be fine. But for 3 I think I speak for many when I say we need a new ancestor and a new setting.

"If they want it to hit this side of Christmas, this'll likely be another slimline Brotherhood-style offering."--CVG referencing an Xbox mag, while retaining the same "spin" from the source in their own article.
hmmm.. let's look at that.
"another" :: this suggests more of the same.
"slimline":: this suggests a meager upgrade value
"Brotherhood-style":: being the referenced noun in the statement, they're basically saying Ubisoft is milking the franchise and shoveling you quick and easy stuff to make a quick buck.

I don't recall if it "began" in the13th or 14th century (hard start dates are actually nonsense, of course), but Ezio lived in the late Renaissance.
p.s. I see you corrected yourself below. Thumbs up.

Now there is AC:B, and talks about having a new AC every year....I'm just not into that. So I'll be honest, I haven't played AC:B yet because I really want to know where Ubisoft is taking this franchise.
I understand that a new AC every year might be fun, but I just want a cohesive storyline that actually has a thoughtout plot that is going to be complete at the end of the series, instead of alot of little pieces here and there.
And let's not forget that Desmond is the main character in this game....and it's his story that needs to be told.

Istanbul would be an awesome setting. It's considered a mega city for gods sake. Should be even bigger in scope than something like rome in brotherhood. It will have mediaval flare in a renaissance setting. so you get the best of both games and a fresh story arc. What could be better than that?

1165 is Altair's birth year and 1459 is Ezio's birth year. The 1494 date is the birth of an Ottoman Sultan and the 1512 date is the death of another, earlier, Sultan. The reveals show Masyaf and Hagia Sofia. One of the artifacts is the Phaistos disc from Crete, I don't know what the second one is yet.
I think we know where this game will take place (more or less), but I am not clear on who the protagonist will be. I can't wait to find out.
I am giving Ubi the benefit of the doubt on annual sequels of AC right up to the point that they actually give us a klinker instead of a AAA game.

All I hope for though is that Ubisoft gives us at least one new character/setting, even if they insist in splitting the game up between multiple protagonists. Cmon Ubi, pretty much all your fans want new time periods explored, since AC used to be very unique for doing that. Please don't get bogged down in familiar characters and settings, lest you make the experience get old.
Also, on a different note, the guys at Ubisoft have to remember that Desmond's story can't progress too slowly, otherwise people are going to lose interest in what's going to happen next fast, and they're gonna lose sales because of it.
Also, before anyone asks, yes I loved Brotherhood, but I don't want another AC game like that. It was nice to finish Ezio's story and add a couple new things (including multiplayer), but I don't want to go back to a game dominated by familiar Altair and the familiar Crusade landscape, no matter how awesome both of those were.

Italy worked out so well, why not continue to offer fresh, rarely-explored environments in the next installment?
I'd love to scale the Eiffel Tower, or the Buckingham Palace, for example :)
