Sucker Punch Leery About Taking Cole To The Big Screen
With popular video game franchises like Uncharted going to the silver screen, one might assume Sucker Punch's inFamous is on deck.
And while that will always remain a possibility, it's really the furthest thing from the developer's mind right now...despite the fact that a script has already been written. In speaking to CVG, inFamous 2 producer Brian Fleming said he knew a script had been in place for two years, but we're still a long ways off from seeing Cole in movie theaters. Said Fleming:
"I don't know, I get asked this question a lot and I should have been prepared for it but the reality is I'm a video games guy and I know there's been Uncharted and Halo and there was even a script written for an inFamous movie two years ago.
It feels like we're still infinitely far away from having an inFamous movie. Could it happen? Absolutely it could happen. Will it happen? I'm pretty sceptical, I don't know."
Fleming seems a little leery about it, to be honest. He said he's heard "weird rumors about one of these video game movies where they changed the character to a guy so that they could cast this actor." His reaction ("What the heck is going on?") is understandable, and we agree that it's disrespectful to the game.
And when all is said and done, Fleming says he doesn't know anything about film; he knows about "making games." He'd only be excited because of the life experience but beyond that, it seems someone in Hollywood would have to do a lot of convincing to get inFamous on the big screen.

Hmm... wonder if he's referring to Uncharted... Anytime you change the character to fit an actor, you've got it backwards, and you're bound to end up with some very boring dialogue and meaningless plotlines (not the same as story).
Anyways, even when you consider the styleishness in inFamous, from the way the conduits move to the sporadic and fast moving atmosphere, you'd need an awfully big Spec.Eff. budget to pull it off properly...
i dunno... I like some movies based on games, but I'm 100% ok if they don't happen either.
If you ask me, video games are a 100% credible entertainment line that more people should begin to accept as a piece of culture. Especially games that have good stories and artistic expression. I've heard the argument that most games aren't very artistic, are fast paced, and strictly action based.... but.... so are movies.

Both the Tekken and King of fighter movies were both so horrible and I'm not just saying that from fanboy's perspective they really were terrible.

The People in Hollywood know that these games have a butt-load of fans and because they're so unoriginal these days they'll seek out an opportunity purchase the rights for the name of the games just to draw our attention then when we go and see them they're something completely different than what know.

PS... I don't understand why Sony doesn't do it's own movies for their game franchises... I mean, they own their own film studio and movie production (Columbia Pictures for anyone that doesn't know)... So if they were to do a Infamous movie then i hope sony does it and have sucker punch really involved in the project too

inFamous doesn't need a movie. Not now, not ever.
Peace.

I am POSITIVE, that if a good adaptation existed that translated effectively the story and feeling in a game then everybody would be able to enjoy it. Mangling a game into something they want the masses to see based on previous movie grosses makes for a bad movie. It sounds selfish, but catering to the game fans IS the way to make a great movie everyone can appreciate because it doesn't dumb down the material.

The only way that I would be ok with an Infamous movie is if some director did for video game movies what Christopher Nolan and Jon Favreau did for comic book movies.

yea it is kind of funny how that is. Halo would have worked on the silver screen, and while mass effect is multiplat, its still orignally a 360 exclusive. ME would probably make a really good film (seems like right up george lucas' alley).

Whalberg is kinda meh for a role like cole mcgrath. Jason statham kind of has the right ammount of gruff in his voice to match cole's, but i dont really consider him as an elite actor. I think out of your list, damon would honestly be the best, he looks the part, especially with how cole looks in IF2 and he can play a really good tough guy (bourne series) so i could kind of see him as cole.
Here's a cool idea. bruce willis as kessler? i think it'd work

And besides, the only way this movie could work is if they transferred the "hard choices to make" theme successfully from the game to the movie. The other two things you'd need would be a huge special effects budget and Jason Statham as Cole (seriously, he's perfect for the role IMO). With challenges and large amounts of money spent like that, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone in Hollywood who could actually pull it off without completely changing or cutting out parts of the story to either suit their tastes or to use less money. Who knows though, maybe the inFamous movie will be the best video game movie ever when it comes out? It all depends on the people making the movie actually caring about and playing the game.

I think they'd find a way to ruin cole. They'd take the original character design for Infamous 2 and use that in the movie so some kid from twilight can star as Cole.
