Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 Possible For Sony's NGP?

These days, portable gaming is a big deal.

EA has listed "handheld/mobile" releases for both DICE's Battlefield 3 and BioWare's Mass Effect 3. Now, they could only be referring to spin-off titles for the iPhone or Android, but there is the slight possibility that we could be looking at Nintendo 3DS or Sony NGP releases. The latter might be powerful enough to run both full next-gen titles (although we imagine even the NGP couldn't quite handle the insanity that will be Battlefield 3). Both "handheld/mobile" versions of the games in question are slated to arrive at about the same time as their full counterparts: Q4 2011 for DICE's shooter and Q1 2012 for the epic RPG. I can't imagine who would want to play ME3 on a freakin' iPhone, but whatever. I know I'm out of the loop.

We'll have to learn a bit more about the NGP's planned launch schedule before making any further predictions.

The gameplay will be just as good if not better on the PC depending on your preference. I like the mouse and key board for FPS more than a game pad.

I think that there are too many fingers unused on a controller compared with a keyboard. the ring, pinky and maybe the middle finger are just there to hold the controller. depending on the success of ngp, it can really create new gameplay.

True enough, godsman, but at the same time, I think back to what Insomniac had to say at the inception of their 'Click' division.

Games are too complex, often forcing the player to use eight buttons and two analogue sticks almost as soon as the game is begun. While this poses no issue to veteran and 'core' gamers, it really does become a problem when trying to draw a ner set of people into the hobby. Sure, fingers are unused, but if it means an added layer of complexity and ingrained difficulty for all players, and not just casuals, then how is the requirement of using more a good thing?

That being said, I hope that the NGP does allow for new gameplay techniques. There's really no reason for it not to, considering the myriad of input options. But if it comes down to blowing into the microphone to simulate blowing up a balloon, that's where I'm crossing the line.
Peace.

Judging from release dates and the fact that NGP and 3DS are stil very very new pieces of tech, i dont see it happening.

If these games were to be full awesome games on the NGP and were similar to their PS3 brother, holy moly that would be an epic launch lineup next to uncharted and modnation!!!

Battlefield 3 on a handheld!?!? Even if it is downsized slightly, if the gameplay is the same as the conse version (cept with touch screen functionality) that would make me go out and buy am NGP day 1!!!

Yeah nintendo will end up having the short end of the stick because of their choice to not have a second analog stick and rely on a gyro instead... Which is stupid if you ask me... When you move the console you lose the 3D so... If I use the gyro I have to turn my 3D off? lame XD

3DS will end up like the Wii and won't be getting all the good multiplats or they will get em with lesser controls XD I guess the only 3DS games im looking foward to will be some remakes and omg POKEMON haha

I don't know about this... they may be able to push the beast but to get the full effect of a game like Battlefield it should stay firmly on the PC and consoles.

They'll make the games the best they can be on PC and consoles and just dumb them down for all other planned platforms.

Yeah and well since the screen is much smaller on the ngp they will not require high res textures so won't that take a big load off?

what software will the ngp have that sets it apart from the ps3? it's going to need some content of its own.

Did you check out Little Rascals?

I think it's a good idea to get big name franchises to help push the NGP on launch, then once there's a large base start pushing new franchises and games designed for the NGP exclusively.

I trust Sony. They know what they're doing. It's not like if MS were to release a handheld gaming device, all that would be on it are Live Aracade ports, Gears, Fable, Forza and Halo portable. Problem is, the ignorant masses would still buy it, even if Halo and Gears portable were the only good games on it.

Any 3DS versions would be a joke. The NGP, on the other hand, might work nicely, especially when having dual analog support.

I won't underestimate the power of future handheld technology.

I have an iPhone 3GS and I'm utterly blown away by how good Infinity Blade looks. We're talking razor sharp looking UE3 quality graphics. It has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Now, it's a fairly simple game, linear etc. But the fact that this coming from a flipping cell phone? I can only imagine what a dedicated gaming handheld device that's larger in dimensions could churn out. This will be an interesting market to watch and see develop. Even Sony seems to think that a big future of their gaming market is with the handhelds.. perhaps they know something we don't.

Both of these games would greatly increase NGP units sold on release day.
Wonder what kind of features they'd implement to make them stand apart from their console brethren??

Would be better if it was the NGP. Kind of silly and gimmicky to put games like Mass Effect and Battlefield on cell phones.

... Well, seeing their "Dragon Age" game on Facebook I'd not be too surprised. :D

But it's just a gimmic indeed. I'll bet it's not even the same developers behind it. It can't be.

That being said... ME on NGP? Oh yes please ma'am. I'd friggin' buy a NGP first day was a Mass Effect bundled with it. And I am not kidding.

I don't mind the idea, it is something to think about, and plus I thinks the NGP has THE POWER!!!. And the 3G brings you some multiplayer action. It has all the controls as the Duel Shock 3

this is off topic. there's articles up at cvg and the sixthaxis pointing to a possible xbox 720 e3 reveal this year. supposedly, ea already has the hardware in house, and is working on games.

I feel worried for Sony that they're gonna wait too long for the PS4. I hope not. I want nothing but success for Sony.

Im not interested in playing Mass Effect 3 on any small screen. NGP should have its own exclusive games. If NGP has the same games as the ps3 there's no reason for me purchase one.

lol, well it is, really. Like Ben said it's RPG at its heart. I had some good RPG fun with ME2 but I expect portable spinoffs to throw that goodness away as they always do (3rd Birthday)

isn't ngp supposed to be as advanced if not more than the PS3. If so BF3 and ME3 should run fine on it.

Comparatively speaking. It can't push the same level of detail as the PS3 would be able to, but the smaller screen size and resolution enables graphics to be pushed to a level VERY reminiscent of the current home consoles. Of course, if Epic can strip down UE3 to run on the iPhone, then there's no reason that DICE can't do the same with Frostbite 2.0 and the NGP.
Peace.

Of course there is potential for this to be quite good, but as most other commenters have stated, this may well be a slippery slope. The NGP needs dedicated software, as opposed to just ports. If that means spin-offs, then so be it.

Nevertheless, I'd buy a Battlefield for the NGP before the CoD that's supposed to be coming out for it. I just hope that the device follows in the footsteps of the PSP and is laden with RPGs.
Peace.

While it would be awesome if these were included for the NGP, any other handheld would be nonsense.

Therefore I'm guessing we're looking at silly mini game style versions for phones and the like.

I'd much rather have new content than ports. There'll be no reason for me to buy the NGP if all we get is ports. Let's just hope the Uncharted, Resistance, and Killzone games aren't ports like these ones apparently will be.
