Konami Seeks To "Close The Gap" Between PES And FIFA
Over the past few years, EA's FIFA franchise has been the reigning king of the soccer genre, in terms of both sales and critic reception.
But Konami says they're "closing the gap" between their Pro Evolution Soccer series and FIFA. UK general manager Pete stone admits PES may never top EA's extremely popular franchise in the sales department but in regards to quality, they believe they can reclaim the adoration of both gamers and critics. Remember, at one point, Konami was outstripping EA... Said Stone:
"I donít think thereís a massive gap in terms of the playability. There are certain areas we need to improve, but itís not a huge gap Ė and weíre gradually closing it. We may not outsell FIFA, but we can sell enough so that itís good from our point of view. Donít think of it as a battle where weíre trying to Ďwiní, or outsell them, because thatís not necessarily the case.
Weíve made progress and thatís beginning to be noticed, but weíre also going to spend a few years rebuilding PES and sales. Itís a long process."
Soccer fans can be a demanding bunch, so it's important for developers to put their best foot forward. ('cough') It can be difficult to take on a name that has become synonymous with video game futbol, but Konami has proven themselves before in this department, so why can't they do it again?
