Call Of Duty Online Revealed Alongside Modern Warfare 3?
Maybe Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 isn't the only big announcement Activision has planned for this month.
Another name is starting to make the Internet rounds: "Call of Duty Online." First up, you can find more evidence for MW3 by checking out a screen capture of the new Official PlayStation Magazine UK. As you can see, there's a big ol' green 3 with the tagline, "The biggest game in the world returns." That's pretty clear, yes? But then there's the rumor that an online-only CoD is in the works, and that both projects will be revealed in May. Now, personally, I would want MW3 to be single-player-only and this CoD Online to be the massive multiplayer online experience everyone wants.
Oh, come on...why not? Just make MW3 as long or longer than Crysis 2, pump all your resources into making the campaign insanely amazing, and do the same with a dedicated multiplayer CoD. If Activision ever wants to appeal to those who really don't care about multiplayer, and don't feel like shelling out $60 for a brief campaign, this approach might work. But what the hell do I know? They make billions off this franchise as is.

But to have MW3 concentrate solely on a huge and lengthy campaign with a variety of mission types, gameplay features and other cool stuff to do (like the cod 4 sky bombing mission, love it every time) I wanna see a repeat and expansion on that!!
And Ben, you forgot to mention the infinity ward business, and how it may impact the quality of this new title, or are you reserving that for another article? Personally, I think the game's quality might take a dip with infinity ward just a ghost of what they once were (pun intended) but if these three studios can work well together, we cod haters might just be surprised with one of the best offerings yet!!
Here's hoping the campaign gets a little more attention this time. And a little more variety. Not everyone loves multiplayer, especially us older gamers.

COD multiplayer style gaming is so fundamentally different from mmo style gaming that I can't see how they possibly could make that transition.
Unless of course they just take the brand and basically create an entirely new game with few, if any similarities whatsoever with the COD games. But how would that be received, both by the mmo crowd and the cod crowd?
Naah... I think they must have something else on their mind.

I mean, think about it. The server you select dictates which country or region you fight in, and for whom--Italy, Israel, the U.S., or resistance groups, perhaps, each with its own goals for the war, perhaps overthrowing a corrupt government or repelling resistance forces. Then, Activision has a dedicated team constantly evaluating the progress of the war on each of the different fronts and creating new quests every week or so that will give each side at a particular front a new advantage--aerial surveillance, artillery, NPC support troops, etc. It would be a highly dynamic environment that could be even more competitive than the current CoD multiplayer atmosphere, and the constantly updating quests would encourage replay and sever dedication, with no repetition or grinding. Man, I would definitely play that game.

Anarchy Online has an excellent solution to this called "the Notum War" where guilds fight over land to place these mining towers. Each tower give a small bonus to the entire guild, like "+1 dexterity", plus a similar bonus to the individual owner of the tower.
So because there are real, ingame advantages to winning these battles these fights are fierce, it's a "survival of the fittest" indeed.
And of course, on the homepage there is a map showing the game world and the current state of ownership, grouped by faction (there are three factions in this game).
It's a real shame none of this is available for the consoles, we really do miss out on something.

There is no doubt in my mind that this idea was on the table when the Blizzard/ActiVision merger took place. The money generation potential is mindboggling. If they connect this to Facebook somehow and we are looking at the future rulers of the earth.

If Acti wanna get my money, they really have to wow me with the greatest COD single player campaign they've ever designed. Sadly, nothing has compared to cod 4 MW, not even black ops. MW 2 and Blops had no standout moments that are memorable. CoD 4 had heaps!!
Most of my friends are convinced battlefield 3 is the way to go, so at least I won't be forced to get CoD this year just to play with friends. Can't wait for the franchise to die or get a complete overhaul ad update with new engine and everything.

Should I get Battlefield 3 on console or PC? I got a GTX 460 with 4 GB ram. Would that be enough? If most friends get it on console, should I go the inferior version to play with them or the superior version on pc to have the greatest single player experience?

Activision pushed the franchise too hard, and now we might finally see it fall to the ground. Hopefully!! Activision is great at milking a franchise dry without innovating. This will either signal the end of CoD or at least move the annoying CoD fans and their high-pitched voices away to a secluded play space for them. Good riddance I say!!

Displayed on the unit is a graphic logo of a fish with a hook in it's mouth connected to a fishing line being reeled in by a money symbol. And Bobby Koticks signature embossed across the DVD disc tray.

Speaking of DVDs, Amazon currently has a LA Noire $15 pre-order bonus. That's just $15 per DVD for those who opt for that platform.
It,d be like 3 games worth of content for some gamers out there. Good deal.
Oh yeah, Im having too much fun =p
Must be this twitch inducing energy drinking. I'll make an effort to contain myself before the caffiene crash.

No seriously, this news doesn't really interest me. I was entirely unimpressed with BO, and MW3 will surely have the same effect. And of course, a CoD-online, while a great concept, holds no interest on me. The only thing is though: If they were to do it, I can't for some reason imagine it being all that different from MAG. Say what you will, but that's the comparison I'm drawing.
Peace.

However, for that same reason, I'm a bit worries the game will have a different...layout to it, because there's 3 studios working on it, and a number of IW employees have left. One can only hope it's not a huge difference in gameplay between MW 2 and MW 3.

Combining WoW and CoD, the two most lucrative franchises of the generation, sounds EXACTLY like Activision.
