Naughty Dog, Nolan North Hope For Solid Uncharted Film

So what's your take on the upcoming "Uncharted" movie? Aren't you encouraged by the fact that Naughty Dog is close to the project?

Thing is, when the developer of the game is involved, it makes us all feel better. We're convinced the artists who created the masterpiece in question would never let Hollywood tarnish the game's good name.

Naughty Dog spoke briefly about the movie based on Nathan Drake's adventures: in an Edge interview, studio co-president Evan Wells said his team had been "working really closely" with director David O. Russell, and creative director Amy Hennig added that "if the guy who made 'Three Kings' wants to make and 'Uncharted' movie, we should be thankful." As for the voice of Nathan Drake, who will watch as Mark Wahlberg adopts the role on the silver screen:

"Is it difficult, is it strange? Yeah. But that's the business of making big movies - you need big stars. I'm very protective of what we do. If that ever infringed on what we do well, I'm burning someone's house down."

There you go. We're with you on that one, Nolan. If the movie blows, it's time to grab our torches and pitchforks; the Uncharted name has been sullied, and somebody will pay. By the way, if you'd like to hear more from North, check out a new Eurogamer interview.

I don't y sony isn't letting Game Studios like Naughty Dog help out the movies that they r making.
Sony Pictures and Sony Computer Entertainment Combined.

I have a different mindset. More like "If the the guy who made Three Kings wants to make an Uncharted movie HE should be thankful we allow him on board"

Furthermore, no big movies do NOT need the big star treatment, in fact they are often hurt by it. Again I point to Jurassic Park, which used lower profile talented actors.

I'm glad ND is close to the movie, but Hollywood has a way of finagling what THEY want out of the poor source material guys.

If this whole crime family thing goes through then the source material is already ruined and we're all gonna hafta burn something down.

Exactly, World! A good movie do *not* need the big star treatment, quite the contrary.

Also, Mark Wahlberg? What other quality movie has he starred in? Since when did he become a reference of quality?

Big name stars usual mean that the film can't hold up under its own weight. Generally speaking from my experience of course. There have been some stellar films with no name actors like "The Man From Earth", an absolutely wonderful AAA film by the way, and then there have been some horrid films with "big name stars" that I wouldn't sit through if you paid me.

I agree World, I really hope hollywood doesn't go ya ya we're doing all the stuff you said and then the end result (after it's too late to change anything) is nothing like what they said. Also I think North himself would be great as Drake.

i feel like if that is REALLY the direction that O russel really wanted to go with the film that Naughty Dog would have intervened by now. Maybe they strapped O russell to a chair and forced him to watch 2 hours of uncharted cinematics so that way he could finally get a clue for what he's actually supposed to be writing about not some godfather turned fortune hunter bull crap!

I have to say I agree with the gentlemen above. A good enough film will turn the no names in it into stars. I enjoyed 'The Hangover' it was a funny movie that didn't need Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell starpower, just a few faces you maybe recognize.

What if they just recorded one of the developers playing through Uncharted 2 without dying and dubbed in Wahlberg's voice. XD

I started becoming disinterested in this movie once they nixed Nolan North and gave it to Markey Mark.
I think even Gerald Butler would have make a better Drake than MM will.

Anyway IMO, Nolan North "IS" Uncharted!!!!!

Marky Mark for ND is still a better choice than Scarlett Johanssen for Elena.

I don't like a single one of the casting choices. That does not bode well.

It's absolute bs you need big stars for films. Only Hollywood/California seems to have this mentality. It really is BS.

Go on Mubi, please, everyone on Naughty Dog, reflect and then DUMP David Russell seriously. The film shouldn't be made at all if it is going down his path.

Yes it is utter bullshit. Many of my greatest moments with a movie the last years are from discovering new amazing talents. Plus, the added value of the rumor mill when new talents are doing a good job is worth *millions* in advertising. Plus, a "game movie" need all the cred it can possibly harvest, cause the movie community consider these kind of movies *worse* than games from movies are frawned upon by us gamers.
And this is why this looks *really* bad for this movie, when they feel they have to (what looks like) excuse why Wahlberg is in the movie.

I tell ya guys, this is gonna turn out ugly.

Well, I hope they straightened Russell out then, since they say they're closely working with him on the project. Although that may be a bunch of BS, since I've heard devs say that about all kinds of other video game movies that absolutely sucked. Only time will tell.

Btw, I'm joining the awesome Nolan North in burning down houses if the movie's bad.

to be honest i could not care less about this!
i lost my interest in movies long ago!
dunno why, i use to love going to the movies, but now they bore the sh*t out of me!
last movie i saw that i really enjoyed was inception.
everything else, might as well be singing me a lullaby!
