God Of War 4 Multiplayer Rumor Return

For a while now, the rumor has been circulating that the next God of War would feature a multiplayer option.

And according to the rumor section of the UK Official PlayStation Magazine, we've received a very clear statement- "Kratos is on his way back, with his next adventure set to feature multiplayer." While most fans will say the game doesn't require such a feature, we all have to remember that in this day and age, a title isn't actually allowed to hit store shelves without online multiplayer. If it does, big guys with lead pipes show up at the door of the game's director and break his kneecaps. ...Shinji Mikami (Vanquish) must not be able to walk right now. But at any rate, we have complete faith in Sony Santa Monica; they won't wreck our beloved franchise just because they're tossing in a multiplayer feature.

By the way, the other important rumor concerning this project is that it'll release in September 2012. That's a break from tradition - GoW titles have always launched in March - but we can live with that.

To be honest, I don't like any game that's titled GoW. But I'll play this game if it has local co-op.

REALLY? Then that means you don't like any of the previous GoW games which is fine cause every game isn't for everyone but why play the new if you claim you don't like any game titled GoW that makes no sense like why even bother then.

Sorry :( I HATE Gears of War. And it's not that I think God of War is a bad game, it has a REALLY good story, but I just don't like playing it. It makes my thumbs hurt. Sorry if I offended anyone, but I just don't like God of War.

BUT I would play it if it had co-op. Idk I just love playing games with friends, even if it's a title that I don't like too much.

Don't think they said kratos story was done. They did say the trilogy, that part of kratos story is done.

Either that or they lied. Ha i dont know man. Either way I'd rather not be without kratos so...

If it has this feature or not doesn't matter to me for 2 reasons:

1. As long as it doesn't take away from the SP experience.
2. BECAUSE I'm not a multi-player type of guy I won't touch that part of the game either way so it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

They really need to go back to the PS2 games art style.
The art style was in god of war 3 was not as good as GOW1 and GOW2.
Add more color please.

I'd like GoW with multiplayer. Especially like co-op Golden Axe style. Even up to 4 players. Imagine that. 4 Kratoses running around ripping crap apart.

I guess I could see some kind of co-op aspect to it though a game like God of War hardly needs it. I really don't care what they do as long as they use that shiny new engine used in God of War III. :)

Yeah, but Co-op can work if they incorporate the strengths of GOW into it like UC2 did. Look at Demons Souls co-op like feature. Even though their co-op is part of the actual game, its the only example I can think of.

I would say perhaps Assassin's Creed Brotherhood would be a better example of a single player game with a decent MP component added to it however thats a stealth action game which isn't quite the same as a hack and slash. It will be interesting to see how it turns out if its true though.

Instead of adding MP, why not hire the same people who worked on GOWI and give players a well thought out 12hr+ story/action based adventure rather than the game we got with GOWIII w/ next gen action with poor storytelling and cliffhanger/vague ending. I guess MP would work, but that isn't the reason why fans love the series. GOWI was the best GOW overall. GOWIII feels nothing like GOWI or II in the matter. It was good and much better game to play, the the atmosphere wasn't the same as the first two. Bring back the atmoshphere in GOWIV first, think MP second. Anyone else agree? or am I alone, lol

I thought that the atmosphere of III was far more fitting due to the dark nature of the games. The environments and action really reflected that darkness and anger within Kratos.
However (in my eyes) Kratos hadn't yet reached that extremity of single-minded hatred during the first two games, and so the more appealing feel of the game also fit. I suppose it would depend on where they chose to take the story and character as towhich would make the better choice.

GOWII felt bright, but GOWI had a nice dark tone to it. GOWIII seemed like mix of both. I don't know, I remember the atmoshpere being better in 1. Yeah, they can go either way with 4. Either way, I'm buying this.

All GOW4 needs in my book is a longer campaign. The atmosphere was superb in my book, so I don't agree with you there.

With the story telling, I found no fault in that either. It was on par with I and II, and I actually preferred the pacing on III when compared to the first two.

Well GOWII was all over the place to me like any sequel, but GOWIII didn't sell its story to me. But maybe I'm trying to compare it to the likes of MGS4 and ME2 when I shouldn't. Good game, one of the best games of 2010, but that story wasn't the proper ending for Kratos...well supposedly. Just my opinion. I miss the narrator from the first two.

I went in expecting a story of revenge and events coming full circle.

To me GoW3was about one thing. Revenge. There doesn't need to be much of a story with thatin mind, considering the back story from the first two. The second one left off and we immediately knew where the 3rd was heading. To me regardless how good or bad the story in GoW3 was ( I thought it was good actually), it all boils down to how good the trilogy was portrayed as a story. From the first to the third we knew exactly what was going on and why we were doing this or that. That in my mind is a good story one you can follow, embrace and remember. The trilogy is brilliant, each one individually is amazing, but I will agree the 3rd lacks the most substance. Again though we know the material, we just had to play it out!

"Like any sequel"? Why are sequels hated by so many people? IMO, sequels are usually better than the originals of most things. They're expanded upon, have a more defined style, and are generally twice as good as before. But whatever.

Also, GoW3 had a good story. I actually wasn't expecting as much story as we got in the game; I figured we'd just be getting a story where "Kratos climbs Mount Olympus and kills the gods. The end." But we got a lot more than that. So I don't know what you're talking about when you say it wasn't good.

There is a novel, It might be te first book I'll read in a while! That's terrible I know but when I sit down to read my mind wonders. And it's not just reading I'm just always fixated on different ideas, I'm constantly thinking of things throughout the day, things I could do better in sports. But when I pick up a book and read unless it grabs me, I can't concentrate on it.

Anyways I think the novel is out. I'm not sure but I think it was due out in February, I could be wrong though. But you are right there is a novel, unless that changed somewhere along the way and I never heard.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Santa Monica needs to take a break from the GoW series. They said that the Trilogy was finished. Doesn't mean that the series is finished, but I'd like to see them do something different before going back to it.

That being said, I'll pick up this for sure and not give a damn about the multiplayer.

Nah... epic four player battles between Kratos and a choice of certain bosses that have had a chance to shine throughout the series. Imagine Kratos, Eurylae, Thanatos and the Barbarian King.

Damn. SM finally sold out, huh? I'm all up for GOWIV, I just don't want another stage like the Labyrinth :) Took a brother 8hrs to pass that sxxt on Chaos Mode ('_'). I finally passed it because I was blocking 85percent of the time. THE CAMERA WAS TOO CLOSE IMO. On topic; i'm not for multiplayer.

My roommate and I would love a co-op version of this... we spent days handing the controller back and forth for GoW3 Titan mode. This way we both could play and I still would get to show him how much better I am than him!

I have confidence that Santa Monica can deliver something awesome multiplayer-wise (here's hoping for coop and not some ill-advised competitive attempt). However, I thought they said Kratos was done? I figured we'd be getting a new main character at this point.

Now I wouldn't mind seeing Kratos again, but when they said they were done with him I kinda expected them to be done with him, you know? Either way though, I'll be getting this regardless because I know its gonna be a hell of a lot of fun, just like all the other GoWs have been.

honestly, i think i am done with Krato, creat sth new in the context of same big scale as athen, but no Krato, it sets in stone with GOW3. multiplayer? are they all "shooterizing" all the games this gen. geeeeez

Oh what a shame, I hope S.Monica aren't going to stain their fine pedigree with this. If the GoW multi-player mechanic doesn't work it will be very sad.

i doubt it!
1 how would you do MP for GOW?
2 sony SM are rumored to have there hands full with that tps open world game and heavenly sword 2.
3 how could kratos be back, after, well.......
4 all GOW games have taken 3+ years to make, hell GOW3 went into development roughly the same time as 2!
ok they have the engine and such, but knowing SM they will want to beef it up, especially in boss battles and, well, creating a boss larger then chronos is going to take a hell of a long time!
i cant see us getting a new GOW game anytime soon, let alone next sept!

I'm putting it out there -- I predict a prequel set before Kratos was in service of the Gods, when he was just a spartan commanding an army. There's your multiplayer component right there.
