Sony Santa Monica's Mystery Project: Is It Heartland?

We're all wondering what Sony Santa Monica's mysterious new project might be; multiple job opportunities have presented us with information that just doesn't jive with God of War.

Of course, a new GoW will come at some point (the latest rumor puts God of War IV in September of 2012) but could there be another project? Why are they asking for people with experience in first- and third-person shooters? And what's this about Quantic Dream's David Cage being asked to advise on a modern-day FPS for the PlayStation 3? Well, normally I don't click on random blogs but I do remember the name, "Heartland." And as you can see, there may be reason to believe that the canceled PSP game is indeed Sony Santa Monica's new project.

At the time, GoW guru David Jaffe was collaborating with Incognito on the game; it had been described as an "emotional FPS" that featured the Chinese invasion of the U.S. This sounds suspiciously like Homefront, by the way. We had also learned about the use of QTEs and Sony was pushing Jaffe to make the game for the PS3. Now, considering all the gathered evidence, it's not a totally ridiculous guess to think of Heartland but even so...is it possible?

We kinda just want GoWIV. Anything else could be super risky at this point.

I'll take it! If indeed this is that project being brought to light again! There is a lot of intelligent people that could be involved in this project. Either way I do want GoW4, but if this is a project between now and then, I'll gladly give it my attention.

no, GGTV are announcing starhawk.
PSM3 are announcing a new ps3 exclusive soon and they say its something no one will expect so my moneys on this.

unfortunately any modern day military FPS will be called a cod clone for that wrinkle alone. But if the plot is the same as another game that's just not good.

Never heard of Heartland,but i've read a few rumor blogs about a possible E3 showing of Heavenly sword 2!!
Sounds good?...well rumor has it,its going to be set 10yrs later and will be a sandbox game & you'll have to master many forms of marshall arts before you can wield the heavenly sword.
SPOILERS!!!
10yrs later???...nariko's dead and kai would be in her mid 20's,i wanna play as kai again during her post tramatic stress dis-order days because i doubt she'll still be playing "Twing Twang"as a young lady.
Anyway i'm ok with a new FPS as long as its not your average marine/army been there a million times sorta game...

It may be risky, but at this point I'd almost prefer a new IP over God of War 4......but would gladly accept BOTH GoW4 and a new IP. 2011 is undoubtedly Sony's "year of sequels", so I'd love to see the start of a new series for next year to go along with The Last Guardian and whatever else Sony announces over the next year.

really not interested in this if it's not for the ps3 i'm really not into handheld gaming, santa monica is a very talented studio. But i'd much rather them doin a sequel, or a prequel to heavenly sword instead of an FPS.

Diametrically opposed philosophies regarding game design...could result in magic or disaster.

Regardless of what they're working on, I'm ok with it being risky. Mostly because those involved have often worked on risky project and that is how we've gotten some of the greatest games on Sony machines.

Hmm... intriguing. I'm always the first to declaim FPS games, but this could be really good if they have Cage working alongside them on the narrative. The clues also point towards a logical choice here, and I've said before that I'd very much like to see Santa Monica do something different before popping back onto GoW.

But with Resistance and Killzone, does the PS3 really need another exclusive FPS? Moreover, this certainly isn't SM's style, and while that's a good thing in my mind (branching out rather than doing the same thing over) I'd rather see baby steps to see the genesis of their eventual games. Kind of like how you can see how the Sly Trilogy really aided the creation of inFamous. Anyway, it may be risky but at this point, I'm willing to take it, and if it's announced tomorrow (today?) you can bet I'll be all over it like a bed bug.

Well, I don't know what it is now that Ben's said its not Heartland, but I'm definitely excited for...whatever the hell this game is. Especially since everything SM touches turns to gold.
