Epic Campaign Sets, New Physics For Uncharted 3 Multiplayer

We all know Uncharted is always about the unparalleled single-player campaign, but developer Naughty Dog has made it plain that multiplayer won't be ignored.

In fact, concerning Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, the talented studio has often said they intend to make it the "go-to" multiplayer game for the PlayStation 3. So what are they doing to improve and enhance this option, which began with the last installment? Check out a NowGamer interview with Naughty Dog game director Justin Richmond. He talks about using the "epic set pieces" found in the campaign and the use of "innovative in-game events" to set the multiplayer apart. He also confirms co-op support although we don't have any specific details as of yet. Then there's the new physics:

"For Uncharted 3, we are using a bunch of new systems, including one that lets Nathan Drake climb around on objects which are using physical simulations to determine their animation. This opens all kinds of possibilities for neat climbing and physical puzzle based gameplay. Traversable physics objects are just another layer that allows us to further ground Drake in his world. The more things in the game react how the player expects them to react, the more they can buy into what is going on and the more they feel connected to the character."

Um...is there anything these guys can't do? Even I might get into the multiplayer for this one. And that's saying something.

It's unfortunate that this game comes out right after Twisted Metal does. I'm probably going to neglect TM's promising online play for all things Uncharted 3.

this is why naughty dog is 1 of sony's top game developer, if not the best over all.
I can't wait to get my hands on this game day 1 purchase for me.

That's some seriously impressive tech they're creating regarding the animation dependant on the properties of any given objects's physic's, I don't believe any game developer has tried this. This must've been what they meant when they said Drake interacts with his enviroments more. Imagine trying to go about this, given how perfect ND like every mechanic in the game perfect!?

Honestly, I really do think this will be THE greatest game ever. I thought UC2 was extremly close, but by the sounds of this..my god. We will all be blown away E3.

EDIT: Justin Richmond has lost alot of weight hasn't he?

With the innate power in the PS3, no I don't think there is anything Naughty Dog can't accomplish once the set their talents to it.

The Naughty Dog team is truly amazing. If I could join any dev team I wanted. Naughty Dog would be very high on my list.

I think that is one of the reasons PlayStation has done so well. I can't think of a single PlayStation dev team I don't want to be on...Media Molecule, Guerrilla, Eat Sleep Play, Naughty Dog, Incognito (RIP), Insomniac. The list just goes on and on.

Hopefully one day I will be on a team like one of those, or like Valve. I know that Valve gets a good amount of flack around here, but if you've read anything about how it is to work there, you can't deny that it would be pretty cool.

I only played Uncharted 2's Multiplayer for like 1hr in the whole time I had it. I played through the story once. My buddy helped me get my tresures and I managed to Platinum it. After that my Ps3 would not read the disc, so I only played Uc2 very little. Can't wait for Uncharted 3. Is Naughty Dog under Sony? Or are they their own company?

Well I'm not much of an online mp game player, but if it's the go to mp of the ps3 I would probably play it every now and again.

Which considering I usually log about 8 hours of online mp a year, that's saying I'm very interested.

Sounds great. Really really excited for this game! ND seems to have a very good grasp on what it takes to make a good game. Add that on top of their talent and they are above the rest.

Ive been reading a lot of articles lately, and I think it's neat a lot of people want uncharted on the 360. Obviously Sony would never le that happen, bit it's still great to see that. It just shows how good of a game it is and how it is recognized. Obviously I don't want the 360 to have any part of my beloved franchise though. These are definitely my favorite games, they just endlessly provide me with great experiences.

I hope that physics engine is in place for the SP as well. Imagine having to run along a rickety bridge as it falls apart in real time relative to where you step. Egads! And ND created some of the best SP setpieces that I've ever seen in UC2. I'm imagining now bringing the train segment into MP, with maybe two players trying to progress along it while sixteen try to impede them.

The MP for this is going to be amazing, but I just want to hear more about the SP. Less than a month until E3 and I can't wait!

No doubt it will be improved for SP. Hah, imagine an MP involving that collapsing bridge at the end of UC2? Boggles the mind.

I hope PS3 owners give this game justice. It must regain it's position as no.1 best-selling playstation 3 game!

Only thing I'm worried about is kick-backs. Actually I'm really worried. It's like, having a fair fight between a guy and you and you both have AK's. The other guy takes cover, then pops out with a friggen Hammer then guess what? Your screwed. Hopefully everyone in the beta tells ND this.

multiplayer does look good. it will be fun to watch uc3 vs geow3 sales comparisons play out. both will do very well.

uc3 will be a real shot in the arm for sony, and probably make all those crazy people trading in their ps3's regret it.

The only thing I didn't like about the multiplayer for uncharted was the classic everyone starts with the same gun, and the good guns are found out and about on the map, so the strategy for every map, is just to go get the good gun. That got really annoying.

I don't think its gonna be like that anymore. Watching the multiplayer trailer, there is a part where you see guns getting customized.

Hey guys, I have a question. Since the PSN's down, does that mean that devs can't work on the multiplayers for their games at all? Or do they have separate servers for that?

Actually, the Dark Souls team just commented that the PSN down time may delay DS's release beyond the target date of October 11, so there is some effect.

lets just hope they dont screw up the MP like they did last time!
i hope they have allot more co-op maps, and debug them this time!
every time i played a co-op map the game broke and we could not progress so i got fed up and gave up.
game needs dedicated servers too there was allot of lag!

speaking of the beta, im shocked sony just announced the release date for infamous 2 and were getting the uncharted 3 beta too!
