Team Bondi On L.A. Noire: "We Led On PlayStation 3"

Hey, everyone wants to know why it took seven years to make.

And that's why you should check out the recent 1Up interview with Team Bondi boss Brendan McNamara; it simultaneously manages to answer a ton of questions and ratchet our excitement up another level.

One particular note of interest, though- for a while there, it was assumed that L.A. Noire would be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. But in 2008, it was reported that Team Bondi's promising detective drama had gone multiplatform. This left a sour taste in the mouths of some Sony loyalists but McNamara confirms that the PS3 was the lead development platform for L.A. Noire. In fact, he added that "most third-party studios" are using Sony's machine as the lead console in multiplatform projects. Remember, McNamama previously headed up Sony's Soho studio, which was responsible for The Getaway.

"For this project, we led on PlayStation 3, and in a way I think that's what most people are doing. We found out that people were doing 360 and then trying to get stuff across to PS3 and were struggling with it.

There seems to be less of a struggle to go the other way, I think. You hear things that you have to put a lot of effort into on PS3 and get it up and running pretty quickly on the 360. Then, like everyone else you have to scramble to get your framerate up."

If you weren't already aware, the game will ship on three DVD discs for the Xbox 360, while of course, there will only be one Blu-Ray disc required for the PS3 version. And typically, if one version of a game is a port, we recommend the other; i.e., just play the game on the platform it was initially designed for. Plain and simple.

Definitely getting this for PS3. It was made for PS3 so it's the better platform for it, just like FF XIII.

Bayonetta was a 360 buy for me, clearly 360 was the main console designed for it, so it was a no brainer.

LA Noire is looking amazing, and is a definite Day 1 buy for me. I just hope the DLC promo code for the Naked City case will work, and the PSN will be up and running to accept it once the game comes out on Thursday (in Australia, always 2 days later here than simultaneuous US releases)

Finally, a GTA style game where you DON'T play as the crook, but play the good guy instead!! I've been wanting a game like this for ages!!!

Pandacastro,

I believe that this is Team Bondi's first game.
But TB was founded by Brendan McNamara(former Director of Development at Sony Computer Entertainment’s London Team, Soho Studio).

He was also the writer(& director) for the giant hit PS2 game, The Getaway.

And that game sold 4+ million.

Edit: Ha, Lawless's nimble finger's beat me too it.

quite scary having such a big project like this as your first game ay?
its like getting your qualifications, then starting in Ferraris F1 team!
i hope it pays of for them, there betting the farm on this.
i just cant believe 2K funded them for it, i mean you would think they would say its too big a risk.
a veteran developer ok, but a newbie, a unproven studio?
oh well, so nice to see us showing the industry how its done!
now hopefully pubs will realize we can do more then mobile games, and will start to see more dev studios opening up.

Damn! This is what I do not like about a lot of multiplats. Just because something cannot fit on the 360's DVD, PS3 gamers also would need to purchase that omitted part as a DLC when it should have been on the Blu-ray disc from the get go. Aaargh!

Ubisoft gave us the Copernicus Conspiracy for free. Rocksteady gave us the Joker for free. R* gave us a couple of extra gang hideouts. Knights of the Nine came in the standard edition of Oblivion. We don't always get the shaft, but they all should definitely have been included on disc, without needing to be d/l'ed (of course KotN was... but it was released later anyway). At least we sometimes get a nudge with the exclusive free DLC is all I'm saying.

Well duh. The game started out being funded by Sony back in 2004. It sort of implies that initial development was done on the PS3, and if that's where you start, you're not likely to switch over and lead development on the other console after four or five years. You'd pretty much have to scrap everything and start over.

Still, it's good to have this confirmed as it means that it'll likely not face the same issues that GTA and RDR did in the texture loading and sub-HD native resolution. Can't wait for this one.
Peace.

I'd like to see games in the near future that just bypass 360 and release on PS3 and Wii2 so there will be no more space concerns.

That'd be excellent. With no 3rd party games, and that miserly list of exclusives, the system would soon die, and real gamers could rejoice in having the two REAL console companies back going head to head. Until Apple or Google decides to join the fray.

Also: sad because you guys get it on Tuesday. I have to wait until next Thursday. At least I'll be able to get WKC2 at the same time :D

Lead console doesn't seem to be that much of a compliment if you read what he is saying. Basically, devs have trouble duplicating what's done on the 360 on the PS3 but seem to have little trouble bringing what's done on the PS3 to the 360. That's what I'm reading here.

If this game has no install, at least nothing over 2 gigs, I'm definitely getting the PS3 version. But if it's 5 and up, I may get the 360 version because I have nothing I want to delete off my hard drive now and inFamous 2 is coming soon, and it may have one as well.

Well that's a potential problem. I doubt inFamous 2 will have much of an installation. First/second party studios tend to keep them fairly low. R* are getting better at it too (I know this is only published by them), GTAIV's was massive, but RDR was only half a gig. And looking at the three discs on 360, FFXIII didn't have a mandatory PS3 installation. I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

So I would have to buy an external HDD I'll never use again AND an internal one? Seems like alot of hassle. Had been thinking about buying the 500GB Supercharged from Gamestop and then selling this one I have. Wife gave the thumbs up but I haven't pulled the trigger because I'm kinda tired of putting out more money. At this point, I have purchased a launch 60 GB, upgraded to the MGS4 80 GB, gave up my PS2 BC to buy a 120 GB,and now the 250 GB. The equation of having to spend more money just to enjoy all my games whenever I want, without hassle, is not looking good at all.

Just kidding.

Thank you all for your help and advice. Very much appreciated!! By now, people probably know I'm staunchly against the whole 'console war' thing, but I do prefer to get all my games on the PS3 and use my 360 and Wii primarily for exclusives. With a few exceptions ( like Bayonetta, I have the 360 version, but I also have the import and domestic PS3 versions as well.) I've managed to do that the entire gen. leading with the ps3 seems to be the way to go. vanquish and castlevannia turned out great. it is weird that they have so much trouble porting from the 360 to the ps3. i know it sounds mean but i think the 360 deserves some crrappy ports like we got. it would wipe that smirk off threir faces concerning multiplats.

it will be very interesting to read the face offs between the 2 versions. could this actually be one of those rare multiplats that turn out better on the ps3?

of course ps3 was lead plate-form, wouldn't make any sense to change it and make 360 the main plate-form, if the game was design from the start for the ps3. it seems that when dev make a mulitiplate game and make the ps3 first and port it to 360 both games end up looking almost identical ex vanquish and dante inferno.to bad moneyvision doesn't seem to understand how to do that. ms must be feeling stupid for going with dvd now. it seems games are starting to get bigger and games on 360 are getting mp disc cause of the dvd. of course it suck cause than we have to get the overprice dlc cause dvd cant handle all the data. hate to see how many disc ME3 is going to be for 360, when ps3 will get one disc cause of the great bluray.
