PS3 Firmware Update 3.61: Change Your PSN Password
The PlayStation Network is coming back and it's time to take the first step.
To participate in the PSN fun, you'll have to download a firmware update for your PlayStation 3. Check out all the pertinent details; if your machine already has 3.61, you only have to change your account password before gaining access to the Network. This applies to the master account and all sub-accounts and of course, there are a few additional stipulations:
-- When you change your password, an e-mail message may be sent to the e-mail address registered with PlayStationŽNetwork (your sign-in ID). If you cannot receive messages at your registered e-mail address, you will not be able to change your password.
-- If you cannot receive messages at the e-mail address you have registered as your sign-in ID, before changing your password, make sure you have an e-mail address where you can receive messages and then contact PlayStationŽ Consumer Support.
-- Depending on your country/region of residence and the network environment you are using, you may not be able to change your PlayStationŽNetwork account password or make use of PlayStationŽNetwork services for some time after updating your PS3 system software.
This shouldn't take long at all and when you're done, you should be able to utilize many of the major PSN services. For the record, the Store remains down but that will return before the end of the month, according to Sony.

As for us non-US gamers, we're still waiting for our turn to sign in to the the PSN. Just a few more hours/days wait!

My first used 60 GB PS3's disc drive went bad after 8 months(had 1yr warranty)so I swapped it out at Gamestop, but I didn't realize that I had to deactivate my old one.
Then my 2nd one just went into red-blinking light mode after 2 years of heavy playtime on it, & then the USPS smashed it beyond repair while it was in transit to get fixed.
So now I have 2 PS3's that need to be deactivated, and since I just might be able to swing enough $$ for a new slim this week, I guess I need to find another way to deactivate them first before I can even get on-line with Sony.
I forget who, but somebody here(BTW, thank you) had posted this number to Sony for me earlier....
1-800-345-Sony
So I guess anyone in the same sort of boat I'm in, can give them a call too, but preferably later on in the week when Sony's customer service switchboard isn't all frigging lit up like a Christmas tree like I imagine it is right now.

My own Phat Princess was(temporarily) down & out from the *RBLOD.
But some f*cking USPS package bungling gorilla a$$hat used a Mortal Kombat fatality to give it the dreaded **SMPS3CTDCASCTSWMOEDS while it was in transit to a fix-it shop.

**Smashed My PS3 Casing To Smithereens Causing The Dreaded Cracked And Spider-Webbed Motherboard Of Eternal Death Syndrome.

Once you have reset your PSN password go to the main QRIOCITY web site;
www.qriocity.com
Under the 'Manage Account' section, there is a 'sign in' button. Click it and sign in using the email address and password for your registered PSN ID. You'll now see a list of PlayStation 3 and PSP and other devices you may have registered with the PSN or Qriocity services. Click on PlayStation 3, and you will be presented with a list of the systems. I believe that unless you have given them a nickname before in the account management screens here, they will simply be listed in numerical order, 1, 2, 3, and so on. I believe that the systems are listed in chronological order. So if the ps3 you need to deactivate is the first one you ever had, you can probably pick the first on the list.
However I would advise having this account management screen open on a PC when you do this, so that you can test your working PS3 to make sure it is still active - just in case you select the wrong one. If you do, you can always re-activate it.

I was just trying that because I had put my account on a friends system and he bricked it sent it in and I put it on his refurbed system before realizing about the account only being able to be put on 5 systems. I was unable to deactivate it from the web. It tells me you HAVE to use the system to deactivate it.
