Shock Jock Howard Stern Goes Off On Gamers And Gaming
Okay, it's a little funny.
As noted by Game Informer the shock jock for the ages sent his roving reporter Wolfie to the recent TooManyGames 2011 event in Philadelphia. And yeah, he mocks the hell out of video games and game convention attendees but then again, that's his job. How can you take anything Stern says seriously? Stern flat-out bashes the somewhat incoherent responses and then the insults escalate; we'd probably be more offended if we didn't know Stern's past includes being a hardcore geek. Even if The Legend of Zelda isn't in his past somewhere (although I'm willing to bet good money it is), we figure if he isn't slamming on something, nobody will pay to listen. I mean, is there anything else he has to say that's worth paying for?
I wouldn't know. I spend all my time inside playing video games, avoiding the sun and dressing up for cosplay conventions.
...in all honesty, I'd just love to go on his show and arm wrestle that skinny punk.

Listening to some of the people he interviews, they sound almost *too* stereotypical, leaving me to wonder how much of this was staged. Of course, I've never been to a convention, so I don't know first-hand. Either way I'm not going to let it bother me. It's entertainment, you can't take it too seriously.

One may not like his style, or his way of entertaining, that's almost the whole idea. But I really miss *personalities* on the radio. It wasn't always like this.
One may compare Stern to the small independents in the gaming world. He's not *important* in the true sense of the world, he may not even be "cutting edge", but the world would be a shade more grey without him.

I *love* radio, it's something "magical" about it, like reading a book, "nothing beats the mental images". Yeah, pretty dinosaur, but so be it :)
However I got very high quality demands from what I listen to. Preferably quality journalism, and so far I've not found anything that's even close to the standards of BBC.
I take it your guy is more on the entertainment side of things, but I'll sure give it a listen given the chance!

there's nothing else in the world like BBC Radio 4 (and possibly the World Service). That said, I'm thinking about this through a decade old filter and the Beeb has indulged in digital proliferation since I was in the UK. Still, I can only hope that Radio 4 remains what it was, the radio equivalent of an old school broadsheet newspaper.

I do of course know who Mario is though. :)
But until I got a ps3 myself consoles simply did not exist for me. It actually took me a while before I realized that GTA were not an original PC game. I thought it was the other way around, that console owners were those sorry SOB's that had to settle with their inferior version of GTA that didn't even support mods.
... And now I am one of those SOB's. :)

I have no respect for people that don't bother to take the time to do a little research on what they're talking about before they act as though they're a leading specialist on the subject. Or people that don't do research on their guest and make it obvious they have no idea who they are. like on 96.5 the buzz here in KC. I hate that station /shudders

And his stuff hasn't been the same for the past 20+ years. He's really calmed down in a lot of ways. If he had porns stars in everyday I'd say yea he's a has been. His show is all over the place and I listen everyday on my iPhone.
So, can't we all just get along.

Why are they rotten? Its it because their free speech isn't politically correct or government approved?
