PSN "Welcome Back" Program: Free Games, Movies, Music
When Sony announced the phased restoration of the PlayStation Network, they said we can expect details of the "welcome back" program in due time. That information is now at the PlayStation Blog; this applies to North American PSN customers, who can take advantage "shortly after" Sony has fully restored the service.
First, all PSN customers can select two PS3 games from the following list; they'll be available for 30 days after the Store has been resurrected:
- Dead Nation
- inFAMOUS
- LittleBigPlanet
- Super Stardust HD
- Wipeout HD + Fury
Those are some great titles right there. For PSP owners, they can download two free games from this list (also for 30 days after the Store is back):
- LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
- ModNation Racers
- Pursuit Force
- Killzone Liberation
Oh, but it doesn't end there.
-- A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
-- 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
-- Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
-- Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
-- Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
-- To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.
Okay, so some users might remain bitter. But this isn't a bad program, is it?

I'll most likely get Wipeout HD as I've always wanted to download it, but was always scared off by the $20 price tag. Since I already own inFAMOUS I think the other game I'll download is LBP. Never played it or the sequel, and even though it doesn't look like my "type" of game, I can't ignore all the praise and accolades it received.

Those who doesn't have Infamous yet ought to take advantage of this one. It's also pretty clever of Sony to offer it for free, since the second game is just around the corner.
I'm not sure yet as to what I'll be getting, but at the moment I might get Dead Nation and Wipeout HD + Fury for the PS3, and Killzone Liberation and ModNation Racers (or maybe Pursuit Force) for the PSP.
Anyway, I'm glad that the PSN is finally back (just waiting for the Store to be up as well). All these incentives are just cherries on top. Thanks Sony!

I already have the Platinum on Infamous but I'll still download that and then Dead Nation as I have LBP and Super Stardust HD. Wipeout isn't something I'm interested in.
For the PSP side I'm going for LBP and Modnation Racers. I have Killzone Liberation and I'm not sure what Pursuit Force is but I'll probably still go with my first picks.

I think I'll go for LBP and Super Stardust HD for PS3.
(I own Infamous already)
LBP wouldn't ordinarily be my thing, but now the "price" is right =p and I'm curious to see what caused this game to net so many GOtY awards.
At the least, my daughters should enjoy watching me play it.
I'll snag KZ Liberation for PSP, and.. haven't decided on the second item.
And once again, Sony, totally not necessary, but I'm happy to oblige.

And since I own lbp ( its pretty sick, my gal loves it ) ill prolly go with inFAMOUS since I've never played it but have heard good things. And ill alos be nabbing dead nation. Yes I know its a top-down zombie shooter, but did you notice the 3rd word in that description? Zombie. ZOMBIES for crying out loud.
Can't go wrong with killing hordes of the living dead.

But, if you do, then now you can get them as downloadable, so they will be on the HDD instead of you having to put the disc in. Not to mention the PSP games and the free 30 days of Plus (60 for Plus subscribers) and finally a yard sale worth of Home items. I'm sure many will already have lots of them, and some won't like all of them.
I guess that the point is that the vast majority of PS3/PSP/PSN customers will find something in all of this for them. Some more than others perhaps, but that was inevitable.

I was just curious when we'd start hearing from those that do have all the games. To be honest I think the majority of us PSN users are just happy to be online. That's all we wanted really!

Just as you can have up to 5 PS3 systems active on your PSNID at once, you can only activate a game 5 times , or rather, you can have 5 'active' activations of a game at any one time. I think if you deactivate a system that the game is installed on, you get that activation back. But, I could be wrong. I've never had cause for more than 4 activations.
I believe that if you deactivate a PS3 for games with your PSNID, that *may* take care of the activation count. In fact, I think this is the reason that Sony are so sticky about system deactivation.
Oh, if you visit a friend who has a PS3 and create an account using your PSNID on that system and play something, that automatically activates that system on your PSNID, so it will count as an activation, even if you only ever played one time. This is important to remember so that you can remove that activation on that Ps3 when you are finished playing. Otherwise you will end up looking like you have more PS3s than you have.

they should of instead given us x amount of funds and let us choose what we wanted, instead of offering games 99% of people already have!
shame they did not put joe danger on there, would of been the perfect boos for the game!
by far this generations most under appreciated game!

I think they could have taken the price of the the highest sticker item and lowest sticker item combined them and let people either take that in store credit or take two titles. I don't know, it would have probably been harder to work out that way, but it kind of feels like if you already own all the titles you just have to make due.
Meh, I'm just happy the PSN is back up.

What I mean is my mate got PSN+ while it was there he got LBP once his subscription ran out he could no longer access the game.
Seeing as they have given it to us as an apology there maybe no need to worry. They may let us be able to use the games after the free month has run out. Unless they are hoping we will re subscribe to PSN+ once everyones tried it for free that is.
Either way it's good of them to offer the stuff they have done even if I do own most or have done in the past I'll d/l something im sure.
Welcome back PSN we missed you :)

With regard to PlayStation Plus, anything you *buy* (even at a discount) with Playstaion Plus remains yours, even after the subscription ends.
Games you download under PlayStation Plus for free remain yours forever, but are only available to play while your subscription is current. If your subscription ends and you don't immediately renew, you lose access to the free games. However if you re-subscribe later, your free content remains yours to play once you re-subscribe.
Regarding anything purchased (even at discount);
From the PlayStation Plus announcement - "PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current PSN Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% to 50%, and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever."
Regarding other things like premium avatars, themes or game DLC you get for free;
From the PlayStation Plus announcement - "Each month there will be dynamic themes, premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons for you to download and many will be exclusive to PlayStation Plus members only. These are yours to keep forever once you have downloaded them."
Sounds pretty nice if you as me, but then I am already a subscriber...

I'm actually pretty surprised at just how all-out Sony went on this. I figured we'd just get a free month of PS Plus and one free game, but at max we can get 4 free games for life, PS Plus for a month, and a bunch of other stuff. IMO, we didn't need any of this, but its still awesome that Sony cares this much about the consumer (and its public image).
