BioWare: Do The Side Quests In Mass Effect 3, Or Else
Oh come on, what hardcore role-playing fan will complain? And who besides hardcore RPG aficionados plays Mass Effect?
According to a PC Gamer interview with BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson, those who take the extra time to complete all the side quests in Mass Effect 3 will receive an "amazing" ending. And if you don't bother with the extra stuff, you could be in for a very disappointing climax. Said Hudson:
"If you just rip straight down the critical path and try and finish the game as soon as you can, and do very little optional or side stuff, then you can finish the game. You can have some kind of ending and victory, but it'll be a lot more brutal and minimal relative to if you do a lot of stuff.
If you really build a lot of stuff and bring people to your side and rally the entire galaxy around you, and you come into the end game with that, then you'll get an amazing, very definitive ending."
The RPG fan in me applauds the move, even if it may annoy those who simply want to experience the story. But really, I can't imagine the ME fan who doesn't enjoy doing all the side quests and exploring just for the fun of it; isn't that one of the single biggest appeals of the role-playing genre? ...by the way Square-Enix, remember this for the next Final Fantasy.

Was disappointed with ME2 when it came time to end my 2nd play through. First time I did it all, 2nd time I wanted to leave some things undone to see if some people might die or something. Instead the game refused to let me continue until I did more party member loyalty missions.
I should not be required to do loyalty missions in order to continue, they have almost nothing to do with the game.

What I do hope though, is that they add more of the "meaningless" stuff in the game too, like loot and stuff in the shops that has no "real" functionality, just looks or trophies for your apartment or whatever. I like collecting stuff. :)

I'm just glad that Mass Effect 3 was moved to a 2012 release date as I would be too busy with Uncharted 3 by November! This way my attention won't be divided between two awesome games.

I would argue that this game is enjoyed by many, many more people than just RPG fans, particularly the second installment. By reducing the RPG elements a bit, ME2 became more appealing to a broader audience. I know numerous FPS fans who were drawn in by the increase emphasis on combat, and more "casual" players liked the decreased inventory management. Over 3 million copies sold according to vgchartz, which suggests to me a much broader appeal than this statement implies!
Personally, though, I miss the more hardcore RPG elements, and I look forward to seeing what BioWare has in store for the series now!!

May I also draw your attention to you so praised Msss Effect 2 for PS3. It's a poor graphics, lame animations game with a seriously amazing story. The game's dialogue is more than often chopped - UNCONDITIONALLY! If that's what you call an example, I hope next time you might be more modest rather than attacking a true exemplar(however flawed the last game might be).
Thank you

To use FF13 as a comparison (it's my only square enix game): Nice looking graphics, but uhm... the rest: Not so good.
No doubt in my mind who I'd rate on top...!

first they restrict half of a games trophies to time consuming ones like the top 1% in a week for KZ2, and now this?
what about us who study or work 15 hours a day, and have heaps of other tasks to complete, let alone other games to finish!
oh well, i guess being delayed to early next year was a good thing after all!

I don't understand this kind of argument at all. So what if you have a life (meaning "other stuff to do as well"). It only make the lifespan of the game longer? More bang for the bucks? More stories to experience? Places to see? Things to do?
It's not the destination (ending) that is the goal, it's the travel, isn't it?

i love the side quests, but the fact that you have to finish every single one to get a proper satisfying ending is just stupid!
i always like to finish games ASAP because 99.99% of the time when games release theres 120 other games i want to play.
then once im up to speed and theres nothing else to play ill go back to it and finish it again.
tis what im doing with fallout new vegas now, i rushed to finish it last year because there was so much to play, but now the months been quiet ive had a chance to go back and do things i did not get a chance too.

It's ridiculous to have that mindset.
For example, I played Fallout 3 and all the DLC for over a year.
What is with the hurry up and beat it mentality with gamers now a days? Is it due to the fact that people have to have the trendy new title when it's released?

I don't have a good computer to run Mass Effect 1. So I guess Mass Effect 2 will hold me over until I get a good enough PC to run Mass Effect, later down the road when I have enough funds to actually play it on a good PC.
