BioWare Hiring Environment Artists For Dragon Age III
We all assumed Dragon Age would be a trilogy, but assumptions aren't half as nice as pseudo-confirmations (which in turn aren't as nice as official announcements).
Although we're only talking about a simple Twitter update from BioWare creative development director Alistair McNally, the studio's intentions seem pretty clear: they want to start working on Dragon Age III. They're looking for a few "exceptional environment artists" to work at BioWare Edmonton (yeah, that's Canada), and it sounds very much like DAIII is the team's new project. Of course, they still have to push Mass Effect 3 out the door, and that has been delayed until the first quarter of 2012, so it's clear that BioWare has their hands full right now. For our part, we really like Dragon Age II, but we're sort of hoping they give us back some of those standard RPG elements we lost...like, full equipment for everyone and a freakin' world map.
Just a thought, BioWare. Don't forget who your biggest fans are: hardcore role-players. Take a hint from Square Enix's troubles.

The three separate origins in DA:O was pure genious, loved that game to bits.
But I think it's fair to think of it as a *different* game than DA:O, it simply feels and plays different. But horrible it was not.
Funny though, back then when DA:O was released everyone were moaning about the graphics, oh how horrible and dated and whatnot it was. That was the focus back then.
It's sad, but it's embedded deep into the human nature to focus on the negatives...!

I'm not saying that DA2 was a bad game, I'm just saying that Origins left us looking forward to 2 and 2 left us wondering what the heck happened to Dragon Age as a whole.

It was just *so* much fun to play the different origins and see how the stories merged into eachother. I've never played anything with such high replay value, ever.

I was more referring to gameplay mechanics, weapons/armor set up, art style.
DA:O was designed in a strategic combat style, while DA2 was more action based. I have no problem with action rpgs, but they are aplenty and would have preferred Dragon Age to stick to the strategic style of play.

I actually liked the action style battles in da2. I think it was well executed and gave a refreshingly "different" feeling of playing a rpg. But generally speaking I prefer complexity over intensity when it comes to rpgs.
I guess it all boils down to the fact that I really had a good time with both DAs, hehe :)
But I really, really hope that BioWare (or someone with similar storytelling skills) create a big monster of a RPG someday. One big fat mother with insanely complex item crafting, endless amounts of trash to loot, player created cities, player scripted attack chains, the whole darn package. Something we can work on for *years*, not weeks. Oh man, I'd even pay a monthly fee for such a thing!
Hmm... Didn't I just describe a mmorpg now? ;)

dunno why i just cant get into dragon age 2, the combats just far too simplistic to me!
need a few different buttons for different attacks, instead of swinging your sword the same 3 ways 500 million times throughout the game!
not asking for a ninja gaiden system, but some depth and variety would be nice!

Dragon Age II

A couple games produced in part or in full in Canada this gen? Well... the first two that spring to mind are some Naughty Dog studios in BC. (In Uncharted 2, in episode 4, Drake talks to Sully about women in Montreal. A Canadian shout out) Lots of Uncharted development shared between BC and Santa Monica. Also, Assassin's Creed franchise is made in Montreal.
There's a lot more, but I'll stop there for now. Anyways, you'll probably see far more games developed out of Canada in the future since our government is supporting the industry in Canada.
