The Darkness II Gameplay: Fighting The Brotherhood

In a world where standard military shooters rule the roost, it's nice to see a darker, more insane FPS concept.

The Darkness II shouldn't be ignored; it features "Quad-Wielding," the return of those ultra-effective Demon Arms, and even the new Darkling. He's an evil little friend of yours (a Familiar, for RPG fans) who will assist in your battle against The Brotherhood. This new feature, along with the very first look at genuine gameplay in motion, has just been released.

It certainly looks like a lot of fun, doesn't it? GameTrailers also has a new story trailer that's well worth your time; this long-awaited sequel appears to be headed in the right direction. It also seems a good deal gorier than the first one, too...

looks cool using the darkness and i loved the first one....the story was cool but i dunno about the cartoony look :S

It looks fun I guess, but... Somehow I think the graphics look more like any other game now, as opposed to the very distinct style of the original. It simply looks like some of the personality is lost. Oh no... I *hope* I am wrong!

EDIT: After seeing the story trailer I am reassured. This may be a worthy successor indeed.
It was the distanced view of the screen in the trailer on this page that made it look like "any other game". Ironically it's a better view of the gameplay in the story trailer. :D

I think it looks rather cartoony as well and am curious what console they're leading with because the guy in the trailer was using a 360 controller.

I wasn't overly impressed with the first one, but I thought it showed potential, I just hope this one is a step forward and not, well a step sideways or something.

Yeah it looks like he's using the PC while using a 360 controller with it instead of the mouse+keyboard.

Yeah, I know, but It still just made me think of which platform was leading, not necessarily because he was using the 360 controller, just that it made the question pop into my head.

dont like the cartoony look, whats up with that?
this games suppose to be dark and serious, hard to portray that with cartoony graphics.
oh well, hopefully they keep the creepy twisted death scenes.
now those were so twisted!

Ahhh yes I've totally forgotten those scenes! You are SO right, I sincerely hope they've kept all that stuff!
Also that dark, evil voice that told you stuff along the way, commenting what we looked at and so on. Man now it's all coming back to me. It was a damn stylish and above all, TWISTED game, Darkness.

Taking away summoning of darklings is not good IMO. I also don't like the new crosshairs. The way the first one did it was great with the red dots, but this one looks like its going all "standard shooter" on us. I'm hoping that's not the case, but on the other hand it kinda looks like that at this point.

I also don't like the cartoony style of it. The first one had a really unique style that was pulled off very well, but this one kinda throws all that out the window. Plus, if these gameplay vids are anything to go by, it makes the graphics look bad too.

I'll keep an open mind about it, but IMO its not looking good.
