L.A. Noire: Detective Commentary

You've read the review; now it's time to check out our video commentary.

All you gotta do is click the YouTube icon on the top of this page, and that'll bring you to our official YouTube Channel. The new video, "L.A. Noire: Detective Commentary," gives you a brief look at the city in which you'll be exploring, an example of an optional crime situation, and an in-depth look at part of the investigation process. There may be story spoilers but we go out of our way to keep this one part of the "Silk Stocking Murder" case relatively vague; we only interview the first person on the case, and check out a small crime scene. It absolutely had to be done for the sake of the commentary, as such detective work is the primary focus of the game.

There are a few glares because the fire in the background gave the camera brief issues for a second or two, but you'll just have to live with it. ;) Feel free to post your comments on the YouTube page and for the record, the next video commentary is likely to be inFamous 2. Also, something else may pop up there soon, even if we can't really talk about it yet...

Hey it's fine that you have your own opinion of the game - but comments like "feeling sorry for others" - don't make assumptions that we all got sucked in by a hype train because I'm personally loving this game for it's slow style.That it forces me to be meticulous. I bought it for the change of pace.

Some people just don't have the mental capacity to appreciate a game like L.A. Noire. But all is not lost, there's always wrestling or some other snorefest for them.

You're bashing a game you haven't even played. It's one thing to say a certain game just isn't for you. But going off like you are without playing it just makes you look stupid and takes away any credibility you might have had in future posts.

Also labeling people as sheep simply because they enjoy a game you don't is ignorant.

The comment was childish sure, but look at the spelling and grammar! I don't expect an internet comment to be perfect but this one is just atrocious, and it really undercut sony360gamer's whole "I'm smarter than the hype" argument.

Wow, just my observation, but has anyone else noticed that 3 of our newest poster's who came over to PSXE from who-knows-where, seem to like bashing &/or inflaming, inciting crap more than anything else???

Not sure if they're just trolling here, M$ astroturfers paid to stir up the site, part of the me, me, me entitlement sheep, or just too way damned young & immature, but I foresee all 3 getting themselves the ban-hammer in the not so distant future if they keep it up.

i can admit at times the game does get boring, but other times im to intrigued on the story (on a side note the ending of la noire was pretty lame, wasn't expecting it to end the way they did.) the fact that you haven't played it , only seen vids and than bash it shows that your a person who judges a book by its cover. its no gta this game wasn't made to go around and go bang bang, its about patience and actually using your head to figure out certain situation. i don't get how you can enjoy heavy rain, but than don't like la noire, when their both similar in a lot of ways just with few minor difference. imo la noire is the gta version of heavy rain.

Hmm, not so sure about the whole tick and cross checkmark feature during questioning, but that's just me nitpicking. Everything else looks interesting. I do feel the gameplay mechanics are a little overused but then again Rockstar are probably thinking there's no point trying to deviate from a tried and tested, working system: instead adding neat new features will keep their titles spicy.

Very nicely explained and detailed video btw.

Ok, so for instance you see a very few items found that is so in your face that *everyone* will find them. Or you see a question asked (see, not hear) that gets a "ok" indicating you responded right just to illustrate that functionality, but really, I'd not call this spoilers.

This video review game me a *totally* different impression of the game compared to the written review. Sometimes a picture *do* say more than a thousand words...
I fell silly now, for asking if this is anything like Heavy Rain. It's pretty obvious it's not, so it's back on my shopping list for sure!

After watching the video I think I'm going to enjoy the game quite a bit, I still think it looks a lot like mafia 2.

The graphics look a little better, although they seem very bright, they seem better than mafia 2, but the cars, the city, the driving, the combat mechanic, it all reminds me of mafia 2 a lot.

Luckily I really enjoyed mafia 2 so that's not a problem for me. Plus this game seems to have the same setup as far as it's an open world, but it's more focused on the story than being able to run around and cause havoc.

It's similar to Mafia 2 in a lot of ways; same setting (1940s), open world, thrid person action and driving. But the majority of the game centers around the adventure aspects of solving the cases, like investigating for clues and interrogating suspects. Mafia 2 is much more action focused, where L.A. Noire is an adventure game. It's also much more polished and a much better game. =)

mafia 2 was mission driven, i have'nt played la noire yet. just going by the first part of the video. it looks like the player has more freedom.
i am even more looking forward to buying and playing this game when i get my ps3 back.

Actually the freedom is the same except there are side missions, besides that...the open world setting is just as superficial, but this game takes advantage of it setting more so than Mafia 2 did.

its the facial animation and the detective work of this game which makes it and destroys it!
i come because its so unique and intriguing.
i leave because its so inconsistent!
perfect example i was interrogating a guy last night he kept a straight face, did not roll his eyes, so i thought truth.
then i stared at him for say 30 seconds and noticed every 30 seconds ago he smirked.
so i instantly went doubt.
i got it right.
next question he does the exact same thing so i say ok same circumstances same result.
right?
wrong!
one would assume 1+1=2 today, the same would be for tomorrow, the day after and so one.
but one would think wrong!
another example if the suspect rolls his eyes, purses his lips, keeps looking around.
it means hes telling porkies.
but then another time it means his telling the truth.
what the?
make up your god dam mind!
thats what i hate about this game, it goes and creates its own set of rules then goes breaking them!
so how am i suppose to tell if there telling the truth or not?
one instance a smirk means a lie, another instance it means the truth.
some consistency please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good info! Glad I watched it. I'm not doing so hot on my questioning. I'm at about 60% so I'll def play it through again. There seems to be a v fine line between doubt and lie, and the the evidence is the difference. Again good stuff!
