PSXE Poll Update: Gamers Psyched For L.A. Noire
L.A. Noire is the talk of the town.
Last week, we wanted to know how hyped you all were for Rockstar's latest, and while the majority certainly planned to give it a try, a fair amount said they'd wait for the reviews. Well, those reviews are in - as is our video commentary - and we're wondering how things turned out for the gamers. So many seem ultra-psyched for this detective thriller but some who were expecting another GTA or Red Dead Redemption would likely be disappointed. From the PSXE standpoint, we consider the game to be an important step forward for the industry; that MotionScan technology is a definite glimpse of the future. There's no denying L.A. Noire is a definite gem.
But now that you've done the research and picked up the game, what do you think? Does this one live up to expectations? Are you disappointed? Is is something entirely different than what you expected? Let us know.

But that's just an opinion. I found my 1080p 240Hz 40" 3D Samsung to be the best option for the money at the time. Things change fast, though.

in a light bright area LEDs are better.
in a dark area where its easy to draw the curtains and block all sunlight its impossible to beat a plasma.
also depends on your preferences, me i hate over saturated colors they look so fake tis why i prefer plasma they give a more natural look.
also depends if your going 3D or not.
if you are do not get a LED plasmas are FAR superior in 3D tech.
if you can afford it i would go with a panasonic NEO.
best looking TV out there bar none!
actually uses the same tech the pioneer KURO used which was the worlds best looking TV and one of the most expensive at 12K!
also if your going 3D get the biggest you possibly can, despite what she said size really does matter!
also research heaps!
look around find a few you like then read as many reviews as you can on them.
seriously though if you can afford it go for the panssonic neo, my cuz got one 2 weeks ago. makes my sony HX800 look like a 10 year old TV!

LCD panels are ancient history!
lasers the new way to go, but, well......
put it this way, was suppose to release in 07 and have not heard boo about it since!
plasmas are still the best way to go as long as you have a dark room, plasmas are like vampiers, they hate sunlight!

you cant really change anything, in allot of cases you cant even choose who you charge!
WTFs the point of that?
you have conflicting evidence, 2 suspects and the game automatically convicts someone.
choices like that have really spoilt the game for me, its a great game, has awe striking attention to detail, but its those silly restrictions that take you out of the game.
instead of making me feel like a detective in that era, i feel like im watching a movie, or watching one of those pick your own ending novels.
small things like that seriously destroy the experience which is a shame because the attention to detail, the cars, the city, the music!
if it was not for those small silly stupid restrictions i really would believe im a detective in that time because the city looks so real!
it feels like i could pick up a photo of LA in that period and it would look exactly as it does in the game!
shame they had to go spoil the immersion with stupid silly restrictions!
all that hard work down the drain!

*Some* linearity is to be expected though, it simply must be like this with the current generation gaming consoles.
Seems I have to read a few more reviews!

here are some of my questions.
just how linear is this game? can you at least select what cases you can work from your detective desk? is there any replay value? i've heard comparisons to heavy rain. is there more of an actual game here rather than an interactive video? also, one poster above mentioned it does overheat his 60 gb ps3. has anyone else ran into this problem? i have a refurbished 60 gb from gamespot and i am a little concerned about that. overheating a console can lead to ylod.

theres even thing in the game you have to pass, if you fail it just keeps repeating till you pass.
i really wanted this to be a once chance affair, lay out my cards, let me choose one, then show me what i missed out on and the consequences for choosing what i did.
thats exactly why i enjoyed alpha protocol so much!
it actually changes the game from what you do.
you enter a door, and thats it that door is locked and the other paths are also locked.
LA Noires like a all stops train you know where its going, and you cant stop it.
what it should be like is a bus you know where its going but which path it takes, which stops it makes is up to you.
theres no freedom what so ever!
another thing that hurts it is the game holds your hand FAR too much!
you almost cant fail, its just so forgiving, so helpful.
games are suppose to play dirty, throw dirt in your face!
not treat you like a lill old granny, grab your hand, walk you across the street, open the door for you, carry you upstairs, tuck you into bed, then bring you your supper before reading you a bedtime story!
come on this is a MA game after all!
one would think its rated freaking G!

This makes for a very engaging experience, for the gamers willing to put in the effort.
Bubblegum gameplay will be back in GTA, but we all just have to wait for it. In the interim one should get stuck into L.A. Noire and enjoy it for what it is, enjoy the set pieces and try to get others involved in helping you to solve crimes. Gruesome yes, but oh so satisfying when a crime is solved...
Q!
