PlayStation Store Won't Return Today Or Tomorrow
Unfortunately, you won't be perusing the PlayStation Store today. Or tomorrow, for that matter.
Last week, we heard unofficial reports that the Store would come back online on May 24 but as you can see, that isn't the case. As Sony Computer Entertainment America social media manager Jeff Rubenstein said at the PlayStation Blog: "Contrary to reports, the store will not be publishing today." We've also heard from European blog manager James Gallagher, who said the Store won't be opening tomorrow, either; for the time being, Sony will be doing more maintenance. The good news is that the deadline for full PSN functionality is still May 31 so hopefully, we won't have much longer to wait. As of now, most people can easily play online and other services have been successfully restored, too.
We'll be patient for now. We're pretty interested in future digital games, though, like thatgamecompany's Journey.

While that website may have been linked to the PSN. It was not a part of the PSN. And nobody broke into the system that time. Sony simply discovered a pre-existing security hole and quickly moved to fix it.
And security breaches happen all the time. Hell, even the freaking Pentagon has been hacked before. It's not fair to single Sony out for this kind of thing. Hell, it wasn't even the largest breach in history. It was only the fourth largest. This is part of a larger picture that involves everyone who has an online system or systems.
While it might be true that at least some of all these various companies and organizations could have been better prepared for this kind of thing the fault ultimately lies with those who perpetrate such attacks: the hackers. And I for one refuse to be intimidated by them. I intend to keep supporting Sony for as long as I can for the purpose of, among other things like personal enjoyment, giving these self-righteous assholes the finger.

I think it's a strong possibility that word of the upcoming welcome back package might actually be helping sales of PS3 units to new, first time owners. After all, if you've never owned a PS3 console before now would actually be a pretty good time to get one. There's the recent massive security upgrade of the PSN for one but with the welcome back package a new owner is not only getting a video game console but also two free games. More if you count the PSP stuff. And of course there's all the other stuff. This is by all accounts a pretty sweet deal. But the deal is only available for 30 days after the restoration of the PS Store. So since the restoration of the store is going to take another week that actually gives more people more time to get in on the action.
As for the people who have already had one for a while, we're going to have one hell of a time come the end of the month. We're going to have several weeks of new, unreleased content to go through. And that's not even taking into account the Welcome back package. Overall it's going to be a party well worth the wait. As for me, I think I'll probably pick up that new Red Johnson adventure game.

Your many errors undermine your argument. Twice you said the opposite of what you meant to say.
Also, you aren't going to support the developers, but they're the greedy ones?
I always buy games at less than full price, but rarely used. If I did buy a used game, I'd anticipate the $10 charge and factor it into my cost-value calculation.

So, for all those loading buckshot with their critical comments demanding that Sony get their crap together, or whatever, I'd suggest a quick refresher for critical reading and comprehension skills.

In Asia, I don't have PSN access at all... and probably will not for a few more months I would suspect.
I have received no emails from Sony at all about the outage, except for the emails sent to my PlayStation US and EU gmail accounts.
No emails for Asia from what I can tell... that I must admit is pretty poor. However they do have the network intrusion notice on the asia.playstation web site. But that is about it.
No mention about any freebees to be given away in Asia as well.
To be honest, if I only had an Asian account (thank goodness I have all three - Asia, US and UK) - then, as a customer, I would be feeling pretty let down.
I hope Sony gets PSN sorted out soon. I have a feeling come May 31st, Asia's Playstation store will not be up and running either :(
I can only imagine the untold damage this is doing to Sony in the Asia region specifically. Maybe they don't care, we are a throwback compared to the US and European regions. Even Australia and New Zealand I think have PSN back for online play, but Singapore now.
:: sigh ::
I wonder if Highlander knows more about what is going here...

I don't have an ETA for PSN in Asia, but I would say that in all likelihood it will not take months to restore. The key thing is that the Japanese CC companies need to be reassured by Sony that the network is robust enough to restore (which I suspect it is - in so far as any network is robust enough for public service these days), and come to some agreement with Sony regarding specific liability for any fraud traced to data breaches on Sony services. That will be the sticky one because that will require lawyers and written agreements. Sony can't give any customer in Asia an ETA for PSN until they know when their regional servers for Japan can be re-introduced to service. Without those servers, they can't turn the lights on for the rest of Asia.
I have to admit though, I can't understand why they wouldn't be able to re-introduce the non-commerce elements of PSN yet, I think that is the result of governmental interference at the behest of the CC companies. In other words, online play has become a bargaining chip in the wider discussion about the financial liability issues. The CC companies know that Sony is under greater pressure if they cannot restore basic online play functionality in Asia.

Definitely they do, but 1) how much effort does a Blog post take? and 2) Jeff and Sid didn't seem to be doing anything at all while PSN was down.
I'm just saying Sony could be doing a better job keeping the restless hordes less restless.
p.s. I totally agree with High's original comment (gave him thumbs-up); just making a counter-point.

And since all the stats are attached to the PSN, I'm guessing whatever Sony's been building is being integrated into this site too now.
BTW, I wonder what MS is up to, cause I've had 2 system updates on my 360 just this past week alone, one of them today. I hate it that MS doesn't tell us what's in any of them.
