Greatest Hits Package To Include First Two Resistance Titles

We're big fans of the Resistance series but if you've never had the pleasure, there's a great option a-comin'...

As revealed by IGN, there's a special insert found in the Blu-Ray package of "Battle: Los Angeles." As some of you might already know, there's a Resistance 3 demo on that disc but this is different news: as the insert clearly shows, both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will come bundled together in one fantastic Greatest Hits package. You can nab both excellent shooters for only $39.99 this summer and that's perfect timing; Resistance 3 is slated to drop on September 6. Oh, and by the way, that bundle also includes a cool R3 skin and "$10 worth of bonus content," so there's plenty of incentive. Although they're often in the background, we think the Resistance games are well worth playing.

The question is, can Resistance 3 compete with Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3...? We hope it can.

It's a reasonable enough deal. While Resistance FoM could be had for $10 used and R2 for $20, or less, to have both games bundled into one space saving package boasting a host of bonus content, and, also, access to the R3 demo, makes for a compelling $40 offer to newcomers of the franchise.

I don't own either game, as the Resistance series hasn't really connected with me fully. I liked the first game well enough, felt it was a bit drawn out, but pretty awesome with a unique eerie vibe and some cool guns and cool looking Chimera for a first gen PS3 game, but R2 was decidedly a fairly big letdown for me in more ways than one.

I've already got both games so I'm good, but I'm buying Battle LA for my Dad partially so I can do a hands-on article for that R3 demo.

I just don't think these games compete very much with stuff like Battlefield and CoD because while there is a military presence they aren't military shooters. It's like trying to get a CoD lover to get into a sci fi FPS like Killzone 3, it is like getting a rich man into Heaven.

What a stupid question ben.
can Resistance 3 compete with Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3...?

Resistance 3 is a different type of First person game altogether.
Battlefield 3(war)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3(war)
Resistance 3(Not a war game)

Kiryu, you know you're just asking for trouble when you text stuff like that, right?
They're all first person shooters with extremely similar functional mechanics. surely you can spot more in common in play between the games than what's not in common.

Resistance is a war series, just a very different type than Battlefield and CoD.

It is indeed a stupid question because one of them supports Playstation Move, and the other two are FAIL! Go Resistance!! ...and if BF3 supports Move, Go BF3!!!

lol I love the Move :)

sci-fi war game. The real question is; is Resistance 3 going to be as great or better than Killzone 3 and we all assume BF3 will be better than MW3.

Sounds like a good deal for those who like the franchise.
IMHO they are just average FPS's so I'll pass. R3 will most likely be a rental just like the others before it.

Resistance: Fall of Man was the first game that I purchased for my first home console, and so has a VERY special place in my heart. This is an excellent deal for anyone who hasn't played the earlier titles, even if I feel as though the second was a step back in almost every aspect. I bought both as soon as I was able, and fully intend to do the same for the third game.
Peace.

Are you like the smartest 12 year old ever, or did you have some horrible disability which prevented you from getting a console until later in life?

Ha! I'm twenty. Strictly speaking the PS3 wasn't my first home console, but I regard it as such, as my memories with the old Atari and Sega Master system are fuzzy at best. We've never been a particularly fortunate family when it comes to the financial situation, so gaming consoles were definitely forever on the sidelines.

Well you can forget about your financial unfortunatness because I smell cashmoney all over you.

When you make it big, just remember who almost paid you a complement over the internet: "smartest 12 year old ever".

Mate thanks, I could never forget PSXE, even if I wanted to. I've had too many laughs and fun memories from this site. And I'm not particularly rich, but I suppose we never know what the future may bring.

Back to Origin!

it seems $onys convinced the ps3 does not exist anywhere else but the states!
why cant sony be like all the other companies and treat their fans the same, no matter where they live?

You have to remember that the Greatest Hits isn't the same as the Platinum Range, and we actually have some titles on the budget list that the US doesn't, the biggest standout of which is still Heavenly Sword. And what was with all the space, lad?

So true. I wish SONY could support in my contry the PS3 the same way it does in the US, at least Microsoft almost does (We are only missing the indie games channel and the ESPN stuff).

sorry, i got a ghost in my laptop.
keys falling apart, and last night the stupid thing decided to turn itself off and when i turned it back on i got a ERROR A OS COULD NOT BE FOUND error.
O, not to mention everytime i put it to sleep it wakes itself up!
word of warning, NEVER buy a ASUS or toshiba laptop!
ive had acer, HP, dell, apple macs, alienware, lenovo and they have lasted 3+ years, most i still have now!
both Asus and toshiba though, by far the most expensive laptops ive ever bought at 3K each, and they cant last 6 months let alone 3 years!
hell, this laptop playing up on me now i took into toshiba a few weeks ago on overheating problems, a few weeks after repairs its broken again!
unbelievable!
one would assume if you spend 3K on a laptop it would last longer then the 1500-2000 laptops.
but one would assume wrong!

I dont think it can compete, it being exclusive. and not a modern day shooter affair either. its not in the same ball park as mw3 and bbc3

AlexanderTH3GR8,
In my experience of collecting games(2,101 so far), there's usually no actual difference to the game itself, at all.

From what I've collected, I'd say that Sony picks a certain big seller game & then puts out the red Greatest Hits label once a title hits a XXX amount of sales & then sells it usually for around $29.99 to $39.99, mostly the latter.
That way they get continued sales on a game that's slowed down, & newbies to that game can still get to savor it on the cheap.

Then you've also got your black labeled Special Editions, & Limited Editions, Ultimate Editions etc too.
They usually either give you bonus material, or a second disc with extras(making of, extra content, commentary, soundtrack, concept art ETC), or even adding in a real art book, trinkets, or statues, etc.

BTW, the only thing I dislike about the Greatest Hits games, is the actual "red" label itself, because those 37 mis-matched red labels now clash with the other 500+ PS2 & PS3 "black" labeled games on my shelves every time I look at them.
(Yeah, I'm anal about that)

IMO it doesn't really matter if R3 can compete or not. Its coming out two months before either BF3 or MW3, so its just far enough away from both of them to sell well enough for a PS3 shooter. Plus, its not a military shooter, so even if it were trying to compete, it wouldn't draw the attention of most FPS-addicts anyways.

Btw, I must say that that bundle is an excellent idea from Sony. That and giving inFamous 1 away for free as part of the whole Welcome Back program have been some of the best marketing decisions they've made all of this gen.

I think that Resistance 3 is more in direct competition with Gears of War 3 and Rage which both release in the month of September I believe.

Are they adding trophy support to the first Resistance? That'd sweeten the pot :)
