Sony "Open" To Changing Sixaxis

The saga of the Sixaxis continues.

When the force feedback disappeared from Sony's controller for their newest console, a few people went a little ballistic. A few others couldn't possibly care less. And yet a few others had some ideas as to how to improve the controller (there are always a few of those, right?). But up until now, Sony would hear none of it.

In a recent GamePro interview with CEO and Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton, we learn that the company isn't totally adverse to offering new options for the Sixaxis.

"You will see peripherals coming from SCEA that will address the interests of the U.S. consumer. I don't have anything to tell you specifically, but we're open to changing the Sixaxis controller."

Now, we don't know if this means rumble may return, or if it's something else entirely. And this would hardly be the first time the original controller for a new system was changed; they first added the force-feedback for the PS1 controller (the original was a lot like the Sixaxis, actually), and the Xbox's over-sized controller soon fell in favor of the alternate S, which the 360 is modeled after. So what kind of metamorphosis will we see with the Sixaxis? Guess it's "wait and see" time for now.
