Capcom Expects Big Year From PS3

Like most major publishers, Capcom plans to support all platforms in the coming year.

But there's one platform that sits atop the list: the PlayStation 3. The company has released its sales expectations for the current fiscal year, and they expect to sell 18 million units across 55 total titles. That's a drop from 20.5 million copies on only 53 titles from the year prior, by the way. Anyway, it seems they have high hopes for their PS3 software, as they're expecting 8 million unit sales across 16 titles for Sony's platform:

-- PS3: 16 titles, 8 million units (11 / 6.2 million)

-- X360: 14 titles, 4.7 million units (11 / 4.2 million)

-- DS/3DS: 9 titles, 2.4 million units (11 / 1.7 million)

-- PSP: 11 titles, 2.2 million units (11 / 6.2 million)

-- PC/Other: 3 titles, 500,000 units (3 / 500,000)

-- Wii: 2 titles, 200,000 units (5 / 1.4 million)

Yes, well, Nintendo desperately needs something new, as the Wii has slipped. Something else to remember: thanks to the new "PSP Remaster" program, and the fact that Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is first up for an HD overhaul for the PS3, their projection makes sense. ...that Monster Hunter stuff is crazy popular in Japan.

Playstation is the King of Gaming.

Judging by those numbers.Y r they still supporting wii and PC?

Outside of WoW, I fail to see how supporting PC is a huge boon for publishers. Still not sure why you always think we're permanently lodged in 1998. ;)

Oh come on, I'm aware that consoles are where the money is. I was simply pointing out that the reason the numbers were so low was due to only a few games being released on PC. Which doesn't surprise me since Capcom's games tend to be console friendly genres.

Still, they sold over 70 million units of the GameCube Slim; not enough to catch the PS2, but not bad.

I think the problem with the other consoles is there's nothing being released that people can't live without in this economy. PS3 has Infamous 2 and quite a few others like Resistance 3 coming up and I can be down to my last 60 bucks and still buy those. I know they are not Capcom but games like those are console pushers. Infamous 2 will be the first game I've ever bought the Hero/ collectors edition of. I'm psyched.

Wii seems dead, they do not give any indication of Wii2 or NGP forecasts, so both of those I suspect are end of year availability which won't help Capcom through the majority of the year.

To be honest, the Wii's been dead for quite some time. Now it seems that Nintendo's relying on bundles and price drops to keep it afloat, but it has minimal impact so far. Plus there hasn't been a lot 3rd party games to move units (which is why Capcom has low expectations.) Mario, Dance Central, and Wii sports are just about the main games Wii players buy.
I also have serious doubts with it's successor, too. The people who bought the Wii are mainly non-gamers [and the biggest evidence of this is the fact they rarely play their Wiis at all, despite the popularity]. They're usually the kinds of people who see no point in upgrading past what they already have. It's ironic that the very market that brought Nintendo it's income will be the same market to end up harming it.

Did you play it single player? You got to remember people in Japan play it together. You can't walk ten feet with out seeing another person PSP and what have you. MH is all about playing with others. Its why it failed to grasp players in other places.

Having said that, I vastly prefer the Phantasy Star Portable series more when it comes to these types of games.

Yeah playing together has been the it thing going around recently but I'm still surprised the Japanese landed on MH with all of the other great games in psp's library. I actually bought the first Phantasy Star for the psp and the only thing I enjoyed about that one was creating characters...40 bucks straight to the closet

If Resident Evil 6 is similar to Resident Evil 5 I'm going to be piiiiiiiiissssssssed off. RE5 is the first game in the series I didn't buy and treasure and hug at night.

RE5's shortcomings (all 1020452353245300 of them) have nothing to do with it being a multiplatform game but rather Capcom's decision to turn the series into a generic action game capable of reaching a larger market.

LV, that's the left turn. So many franchises have lost their way in this drive to reach the mass market that Call of Duty commands. Whatever happened to making a profitable game? Now it seems that no one is satisfied unless you sell a bazillion copies and make billions. Don't get me wrong, everyone wants to maximize profit, but not every game is ever going to sell like Call of Duty. If the goal is to hit like CoD, then we will see about 5 games this year and everything else will be cancelled. I wish game makers and the gamin industry in general could pull their head out of the dark place created by CoD and remember that simply making a well reviewed, well receieved (by fans) and profitable game is called success.

I became a fan with Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, and then went back and played RE2. Since then I've also played Code Veronica, RE remake on GC, and RE4.

I prefer the more horror style RE games as I've said, but RE5 was still enjoyable to me. Plays just as great as RE4, gorgeous visuals, nice variety of environments, etc.

You just seem jaded towards all things new. Cheer up Limit!!! =^.^=

:) You may be right, lol. Thanks for explaining why you liked the game, I respect that. I couldn't look past the fact that they turned Chris into a steroid popping machine, the constant babysitting, the horrible item management, and the boring enemies and that isn't even touching on the horror elements that were non existent.

A generic action game might have worked (see Lost Planet) if they hadn't clung to the broken control scheme.

What do you mean I can't strafe?

It wouldn't have been RE, but it might have been playable.

You can strafe. Just not while aiming. I thought the controls were fine. Helped keep some of the intensity. Especially when the faster swamp villagers lunged for you.

maybe capcom will do better now that infanue is gone. it can't be good for your company to have a leader that goes around saying japan is dead to the gaming world.

devil's dogma looks pretty impressive. they still have street fighter, monster hunter, and resident evil.

good to hear they expect a big year for the ps3.
