PSXE Poll Update: L.A. Noire Satisfies Many A Gamer

L.A. Noire is one of the best games of the year in our estimation.

And it appears that most PSXE readers agree. The majority actually said Team Bondi's gem exceeded their expectations, while many others said the game is great, but they knew it'd be pretty damn good going into this accomplished and innovative detective thriller. Featuring some of the best voice acting of the generation, a revolutionary style of technology where players read a character's face, and an ambitious, huge, highly detailed open-world setting, L.A. Noire is indeed worthy of all the acclaim it has received to date. It's not GTA and it's not Heavy Rain; it's an intriguing blend and one that deserves the hardcore gamer's attention.

There are several big releases scheduled for June, and we imagine a lot of our readers are anxiously anticipating inFamous 2. But what about the game that defined and redefined the term "vaporware?" The game we never truly thought would arrive? Really, after 13 years, how excited are you that Gearbox and 2K will finally deliver Duke Nukem Forever?

I've still got a long ways to go with L.A. Noire so it will probably have to relax on the shelf when inFamous 2 arrives. But that's okay because it's the kind of game you savor.

If you've read my earlier comments I have said that I would wait on Duke, but now after all the footage and nostalgia and thinking about how FPS games used to be (hard-charging, badass, lone wolf, action hero attacks), hell yeah I'm excited for the Duke. Got my pre-order in and I'm even going for multiplayer just like I did 13 years ago.

Iron sights are for pu**ies.

I can agree, I am definitely enjoying LA Noire myself World, but scopes/sights are for chumps man! If you cannot shoot with your iron's you cannot shoot for sh*t! That is why I usually practice at the range with iron's on my Russian Sniper Rifle from WWII.

I haven't bought L.A. Noire yet but I will eventually. I am still catching up with a lot of games that I'm yet to finish, including Infamous and another run of Mass Effect 2. Maybe by the time I am done with all games, L.A. Noire will be available with all the DLCs included on the Blu-ray much like GTA IV. That said, I am glad that the game is getting good feedback from almost everywhere.

It's kinda too bad the PS Store never got a chance to get up on its feet. I think they were really hoping that giving away inFamous for free would fuel lots of inFamous 2 sales.

There's still time. Just the hype if it being free has people talking about it, which is good for Sony and Suckerpunch.

I think it still will do that Worlds.

The Store ought to be back by Tuesday (if they can hit that notional date), in which case there is a solid week before inFamous 2 is supposed to drop. If they time a nice marketing push for the two weeks following release of inFamous2 that ties into the availability of the first game, I still think it would help - especially if inFamous downloaded from PSN comes with a code for an exclusive inFamous 2 demo or some other extra.

inFamous 2 will be available for more than a week :/ If people pick up the first from the Store as part of the Welcome Back program and enjoy it, odds are that they'll be looking for the second, and if that doesn't happen for another month or so, it only means that there'll be more later life sales for iF2. You don't need to sell immediately, and it is sometimes better to go slow-burn.
Peace.

Are we getting any guarantees on that Tuesday date?

I always enjoy innovation. Be it in incredible ground breaking facial animation, or story telling, and maybe even taking chances with games that most of companies wouldn't because it isn't a FPS.

LA Noire to me is excellent. A different experience I have a soft spot for because you get to play as a Detective, kinda like in Heavy Rain.

And again World, this sucks man! Whats up with the store? I have like 3 DLC codes from LA Noire to redeem!

This is a wait and see for me. I played the original all those years ago and as irreverent as it was then, if they take that further, using HD graphics and an even heavier hand on the blood, language and sexuality, it will actually make it a more difficult purchase. Part of the charm of the game was that it was so cartoonish in so many ways. I've found that rendering in glorious HD-o-vision tends to strip away the cartoonism that some older games had when they are re-imagined, and it's not always a good move.

I must and shall refute that my friend. Just because the latest computer animated adventure for your kids is in HD doesn't make it any more real.

Duke will still be a caricature of 80's action heros, cops will still be pigs (literally) and the ladies will just be... well better.

The thing here is that the 'pigs' don't need to look like real pigs dressed as cops, that's the kind of stupid reality check that too many games fail. They go after realistic and become too real in ways that do not really need 'real'.

Duke Nukem 3D is a classic. Hope this delivers. And if it doesn't, I'll buy it anyway for the sake of nostalgia =)

I played L.A.N for about twenty minutes last night and liked it. I think that it'll be a bit of an acquired taste, and that it'll certainly grow on me. As I said, I liked it, but it didn't immediately grab me as I'd expected it to do. Definitely looking forward to continuing that tonight.

As for Dukey, I'd love to play it... Such rich history, but it must fall by the wayside. There are too many more appealing games coming out, and far, far too many on my backlog that I haven't even started.
Peace.

its ok for me, not as good as i was hoping for reasons i explained earlier, and the story holes and inconsistancies.
but for a aussie developer who has never made a game before its pretty dam impressive!
i just hope LA Noire 2 gets sent to R* north or SD, or someone with allot of experience.
LA Noire could of been so much better, i think the inexperience of the developers really hurt it.
i just get the feeling if a more experienced developer done it, it would of turned out allot better.
great game, but like most games, could of been so much better!

With that mentality, no developer would ever get off the ground. You need to gain experience to have it :/

of course you do, but you dont go gunning for ferrari with your first car!
instead of doing LA Noire they should of done a smaller more simple title to get some experience, then build up to it.
the whole game feels like they were either a holding back to appeal to the casual market, or b making rookie mistakes.
dont want to go into any detail for obvious reasons but allot of things happen and you think WTF did they just do that, it totally destroyed the moment!
once you finish the game you will know what i mean.

I never voted on the last poll about L.A. Noire as I hadn't played it yet. I have rented it however and I'm only a little ways into the game. To me I'd rate it as an 8. I think I'll go ahead and buy it when it drops down to the $30- $40 price range.

Now I have to say I'm pretty excited for Duke Nukem's return. I believe it will be glorious. I want to get the Balls of Steel special edition, but after the more important pre-order of the Hero edition of Infamous 2 I can't exactly afford it. Plus I need to take my buddy out to the strip club for a little bachelor party before he gets married on Father's day. So money is something I'm kind of low on.

I'll be sitting pretty in front of my TV solving cases in LA Noire by the time DNF shows up. It's a pass for me for the time being. If I had money for a full-priced game in June, well, Infamous 2 right?
