Gotta agree with WorldEndsWithMe. FF VII is the best game in the series, and I've played a large number of them.

A FF VII remake would be absolutely fantastic. A dream come true for us, and the profits would make Square Enix happy.

There's no way 100% of us are actually going to agree on what Final Fantasy was best. For me FF6 , FF7 and FF9 had the best 'feels' for me.

While i loved 7 and would love to see i remake on it i doubt they will remake any of them... But something tells me that if anything they will do a HD collection or something.... But would definitly love for themto do a FFVII remake cause it's my favorite, i also wouldn't mind FFIV,FFV,FFVI,or FFVIII

It is preference based, for sure. Every argument is entirely subjective.

Oh, except for the fact FFVII sold millions more than any of the others and remains the best selling FF to date... and was a top selling PSN title for a while too... Those arguments are objective. As more Playstations are sold, the later FF's sold less. And if you thought FFVI or FFV were the best? Well, even doubled up in one release it couldn't even touch FFVII.

I get why people love FFVI better. It probably has the best story. FFVII rivals the story now that we have a much more complete story from all the prequels and sequels. But I bet most people who have at least tried more than 1 FF would say FFVII is their favorite. Based on media, sales, and FFVII remake clammoring, I would say it's a pretty safe bet.

Actually underdog, that's debatable. Google FFVIII wikipedia and you see what I'm talking about. But make sure to read everything.

VIII sold a shit ton too and has just as big a fan base as VII.

But yeah, check out the FFVIII WIKI.

I hate talking about VII and VIII cause it always gets me hyphy. Catch 22 I guess.

I'm well aware of all the wiki stuff. And I've read all the bogus debates about Rinoa being Ultimecia and other stuff. It doesn't take a ton of people to feed into fan fiction.

At the end of the day, FFVIII only sold 75% as well as FFVII. I'm not sure which of the two I like better, to be honest. But that doesn't change the fact that sales wise, FFVII is clearly the most popular. All other debates are subjective and un-resolvable.

Personally, I'd prefer a remake of FFVIII, but as some will know that's because if they do a faithful remain of FFVII I will not get past the mid-point of the game.

Yeah, I guess I should have explained better.

I know pretty much all of that and everything else there is to know about the PS1 FF's already.

But there are too many other factors that play a part and it still doesn't justify why FF7 sold so many more copies when at it's release there were less than half the Playstations sold as there were when FF8 came out. It also should be no surprise that FF8 would sell so quickly after following the success that was FF7. The only other fact that bragged about FF8 was the value of it's cutscenes. Which for sure were awesome. Most all Square cutscenes were awesome.

I mean, FF7's strategy guide alone sold millions of copies. FF8's didn't. This is all despite the fact that from a production standpoint, FF8 was better. FF9's production values were better still than FF8, yet that also sold less than it's predecessor.

So my opinion stands. All other arguments are subjective as debates about cutscenes and storylines are not even quite on the same level for comparison. One has better tech and better character development, yet it still is only 75% as well received as it's predecessor. That speaks to something.

As for my own opinion, while character development was better in FF8, the FF7 characters have far more potential to become big and meaningful characters. Afterall, all of FF8's characters have the exact same childhood background. So of course it was easy to develop their characters when they were all established in the exact same environment. You know what I mean?

I'm not sure, Highlander. I did it way back with a buddy's gameshark. Weird part is that Aeris still has lines later in the game if she's with your party.

One bad thing, though, there are 3 parts that include her past where it will freeze if she's in your party. They'll be all like, "aw... i'm sad she's dead. Right guys?" "Yeah, me too." "......... I miss me too... wait... waht? I'm dead... but I'm alive... but I'm dead... infinite loop infinite loop!" FREEZE!!!!

Another thought, Highlander:

There is a way to "trick" the PS1 into getting Aeris in your party by switching out disks during gameplay. You can "switch" disks with the PSN release too... Try googling the different tricks by switching out disks mid-game to see if you can get Aeris on your own that way.

Wow, didn't expect so much debate. It was an honest question though. I've only played FFX through to completion. Of all the FF games, VII is the most talked about, the most popular and seems to get the most love from fans.

If they're going to remake a FF, I don't see why they would choose any other game besides VII.

Here's the only problem I see in this entire subject. If S-E were to remake an FF series game, it would make that "retro" car kind of splash. Yes, it's easy to capture the look of a generation, but to achieve the "feel", you need to possess that spirit and mind.

I'm not saying this will suck, or anything! I'm just concerned that the primary focal point created by such a success may be an element that is incorperated through and through merely for the sake of sales. That doesn't mean that it's style will make a quality game.

I guess I just REALLY don't have any faith in S-E anymore. Geez, I really miss my SquareSoft.. :(

Hey everyone, first time poster here. Been watching the site for a while and finally decided to join the great PSXExtreme community.

S-Es remakes of past FFs have been more enjoyable imo than most of their newer titles, so for the sake of their old time fans who still have some sliver of hope in them, I hope they can redeem themselves with a next-gen remake of one of FFs greatest, such as 4,6,7,8 or even 9. FF7 would undoubtedly create the biggest reaction however, due to its popularity, even if there are better titles to choose from. Regardless, I hope a remake is indeed incoming, because assuming they leave the game-play intact, they'll realize from its sales that there are still fans of old school, turn based rpgs out there, they just need to cater to them.

It might just be the HD version of X, X-2, and XII rather than a full on remake of VII.

I'd take a full blown remake of VII, VIII, or IX over HD remakes of X, X-2, or XII.

Dear gaming god, please please please, if s-e remakes a FF game let it be FF VIII.

Now I love FFVII as much as the next ff fan. But for me, personally FF VIII was the better game. I connected with it more than FF VII. Its prolly cause I'm a sucker for love stories and VIII was a good one. A damn good one.

But before I get too manu thumbs downs, why s-e, stop with just 1 FF remake? Why not remake FF VII- FF X( maybe even x-2 ) since there more close to todays graphics and it shouldn't be too much harder to do that. BUT, don't stop there either. After the ps1 ff's remake ff's I-VI. You may as well. I guaren-damn-tee that doing a move as bold as that will dig you out of the hole you've gotten into, and it would prolly eleviate an problems you may or may not have in the future.

Just sayin.

But still, damn I hope its FF VIII.

Secondly, world, I know it wouldn't make any sense, I was just saying they could start with the ps1 seriesof ff's since the graphics from the ps1 are closer to todays graphics than old school nintendo, snes graphics are. So in theory, it should make it that much easier to s-e to do those remakes first. I'm pretty sure s-e would dig that since wasn't one of their arguments to not make a ffvII cause it would betoo hard or something like that?

Just sayi. I mean it could be me, but it seems like if they start there it would be less work (still a lot though) for them. Then bounce back and remake the older ff's with todays tech.

And in all acuallity, it may not even be an ff remake they do. It could be (drum roll) Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross. Which either of those 2 game remade would make me wet myself just as much as an ff remake.

FF VIII is special to me because it was my very first playstation game. In fact, my first videogame ever. I never had any game system before cause we were too poor then :)
Additionally Ive never been able to beat FF VII due to borrowing the game and then them wanting it back, people giving me scratched/nonfunctional discs, and computers crashing thus erasing my ROM :(

-Another portable remake of some FF

Considering SE has ruled out a FF VII remake because it would be too much work, they would most likely remake FF I (Probably the easiest to remake).

Seriously make something new already! And when I say new I don't mean "ADOPT A NEW PHILOSOPHY AND FOLLOW THE WEST NEW" - I mean do something you CREATORS actually want to...and CREATE!

On a side note, I hope that they talk more about Final Fantasy Versus XIII, this conference than they do about anything else. SERIOUSLY...I'm getting SICK OF FREAKING WAITING...we got gameplay footage...4.5 YEARS AFTER THE GAME WAS ANNOUNCED.

COME ON GUYS...just bring it out! Keep it exclusive too!

OMG, here we go again!!!! It is the same year after year since the ps3 tech demo video. I know it is absolutely logical that they do a remake for FF VII, and by saying absolutely I mean it seems almost a utopic decision. It's unbelievable they didn't do it already. And then, it's that thing of multiplatforming it and not making it of the quality it should be, so I'm not getting my hopes high on SE anymore. Ofcourse, if I'm mistaking (and for God sake I wish I'm mistaking) I swear I'll grab a mop and do a winning fanfare like Cloud did back in the days when he won a fight, and yes with the music too.

Or a tactics HD remade??

SE announces ff77 remake and ff10 hd release

SE also announces it will be multi-platform.
*Ps3 fans boo, 360 fans shrug it off but hide a deep smile inside, they can't wait to rub it in our faces*

Who are the real fans of SE? Cause this generation it seems like SE thinks they all went to 360 (maybe or they just want a piece of that cod pie.) If they know they had success with the ps1 and ps2. Don't you think those same fans that bought their games on a playstation, would also buy it again. And if they buy it again, don't you think it will be on a ps3, since they most likely will own one too, because they most likely had a ps2 and expected the same treatment on the successor. You know? Or is my logic flawed?

Remake of Dirge Of Cerberus as a FPS with online multiplayer (complete with kill streaks and prestige and everything else you'd find in COD).

Timed exclusive for 360, of course. Appearing a year later on PS3, when the Wii 2 version is ready.

S-E are hoping to sell at least 1000 units.

I've given up on Kingdom Hearts due to them jumping on other platforms, I do not have a DS so I have missed part of the story, I could just about follow KH2 missing CoM, but this is taking the p!ss. If they were titles on the PSP i would at least understand, but putting a title on the DS just makes no sense, so I can't be bothered to spare my time for it. Which is a shame because I love the 1st game.

Aw, that's a bummer.

It wasn't that great, to be honest. You had to use cards to use your abilities. Incredibly linear as you merely progressed from room to room to room.

I would just just look up the synopsis on gamefaq.

What if it's FFVII with WKC level graphics, but FFXIII cutscenes + Dirge of Cerebrus in HD + Crisis Core in HD + Before Crisis in HD + Advent Children, timed exclusivity for the PS3, coming a year later for the 360 on six discs :D And let's not forget that it'll be a developmental collaboration between Level 5, Atlus, From Software and what's left of the original FFVII team at S-E.

If they do that, the ungodly sound of a whole conference room /facepalming will be heard.
With XIII-2 and Versus still being promised, XIV still being worked on for both freedom from beta and the PS3 port being developed, as well as Type-0. The more vehement desire for KH3, and a return to form with a FFVII remake, as well as whatever happened to GRIN's Fortress.

It would be ridiculous for S-E to announce FFXV just yet. Perhaps next year when XIII-2 is out the door and Versus is only months from release. They need to free themselves from the promises of the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation before moving on.

Syphon Filter is coming back! Oh man... I can only imagine what else Sony has hiding up their sleeves for E3. I mean, SF4 on an engine developed in house at Sony London... Damnit, what the hell happened to Eight Days? More importantly, I'm getting twinges of worry. Sony Bend were the ones to develop all previous entries in SF, so handing it off to London may be a dangerous move.

eh, im just ecstatic to see it back!
8 days and the getaway 3 im positive will see at E3, this is not suppose to release till Q4 2012 so theres time to release those before it.
remember both were almost done when they were put on hold a few years ago, sony london has been doing nothing since they released eyepet.
i wont be surprised to see one of them out this year, and another early next.
soooooooooo happy to see syphon filter back though!
we have so few original playstation franchises still exclusive to playstation, so its so nice to see one come back!
i hope sony give us a propper ape escape game just like the ps1 classics were, the ape escape game coming in june is a crappy move spin off like playstation move heros was.
what i would give to get a ape escape game exactly like the originals, only in HD of course.

Bend have been doing the PSP Syphon Filter/ Resistance games and are now doing Uncharted, so I'm cool with them not developing it. BTW, Sony London has been working on Eyepet and Friends and also the Singstar games, if I'm not mistaken. They said that they were their better forte. I'm more interested in what the Liverpool studio is working on.

I still don't understand the obsession with Eight Days. We've *played* much better games than the tiny glimpse we got of 8D suggested it would become. Let it rest.

I swear people just want to have anything they're told they can't have.

The Getaway is another story: a proven franchise which would benefit from PS3 technology.

p.s. It's about time SF returned to console gaming (I'm ignoring the PSP > PS2 ports).

To be honest I hope its remake of FFV and FFIV on the PSP, I loved what they did to FFI,II and IV and would love another remake to that standard. I think if anything FFV needs in more than VI, V's presentation is a bit lacking While VI still looks good today.

I'll be annoyed if its a PS1 Era FF games, as they all are prefect anyway.

If FFX is hinted for the NGP/PSV then i'm sold on that.

However I personally am not appealed to a DS. That, plus the bloated character heads on the FF DS remakes. Hmm. It's wishful thinking of me to hope FFVI gets remade on the NGP/PSP2/PS Vitamin. Ah well.

If they need to remake a FF, it should be FF9, Not because the game was the best FF (which I don't believe) or something like that, but because that game was too easy and needs to be made more difficult. Fights were easy, getting money to buy weapons and stuff was easy, it was all easy. And PLEASE fix Steiner's Thunder Slash and Iai Strike.

Could this be a re-mastering of a PSP game to the PS3? re-master/remake very close in meaning, and if there is an ambiguous translation involved, who knows? It's just that the remastering of PSP games for the PS3 is news right now too...so it might 'fit' with that if it is not a remake, but a re-master...

Its probably VI for 3ds. I remember they were talking about remaking it for ds but it wasn't powerful enough. I hope its either VII or IX. VIII was meh, the story was confusing, and it became repetitive towards the end.
p.s Based on dirge of ceberus ending, was there suppose to be a sequel.

i hope they dont remake VI. I really really like VI but it's in 2d, and i think i prefer it that way, it looks funnier at the 'funny moments' and if it were remade into 3d, they would have to get rid of some of the hidden rooms (the hidden rooms that couldnt be seen cuz the doorways were hidden by 2d-ness). they could probably put a switch to open a door but overall it just wouldnt feel the same.
VII however, is already 3d. i just hope if they DO make a remake, they change none of the battle system or dialogue or music, etc.

A Final Fantasy VII would be my choice. It is my favorite of all the FF games and would sell better than any other. It was the kind of game that most of those from my generation were hoping for when we bought the PS3.

I've played and beaten FF V - FFXIII, tactics, Dissidia, Crisis core and Dirge they're all fantastic games, but I would think the obvious choice for a remake would be FF VII it is the only FF that has been turned into a multiplatform franchise over the PS, PSP, PS2 and don't forget about the Advent Children movie.

Serious this news always get me hyperventilating I don't see why they can't pull out a George Lucas here remaking the PS1 titles first and then the Nes/Snes titles. Nes/Snes would have to me made from scratch worldmap, worldmap characters, battle characters, you see where I'm going.

I definitely prefer remakes of VII, X, VII and IV in that order, period!

Right. I'm just going to say it like it is. FFVII is by far the most wanted overall by FF fans. Sure, FFVI, FFVIII and FFIX were great games (Especially FFIX, such an under-rated game)..

but getting back on subject, FFVII had something magical about it. It was Squaresoft's first 3D game and they boasted huge FMV scenes which were unheard of back then.

This was make-or-break for Squaresoft and it pulled off BIG time. It was a huge, huge sucess and also the first FF outing on the Sony Playstation.

So please don't disregard FFVII as some kind of inferior game to FFVI. FFVII was and still is the greatest game of all time. The storyline was absolutely mind-blowing and it deserves a remake in full 1080i / 1080p graphics and after that, just leave it be.

If anyone disagree's, or hasn't played FFVII, i can safely assume you're a newbie gamer or aren't an RPG fan.

Yes. He's right.

You don't have to have FF7 as your favorite game, but it is the greatest. All objective observations point to it.

I mean, this generation, I like Assassin's Creed 2 the best, but I know it isn't the best. Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 are probably "the best". I recognize GoW3 is top notch and freakin' incredible. But by and large, I didn't enjoy it. And I didn't finish it either.

But, I think despite Amillie's lame avatar pic, he has brought up some fantastic points about FFVII's ingenuity. It set the tone for future FF's. If FFVII hadn't hit gold like it did, FFVIII wouldn't have been what it was. Nor would IX or X. It set a precedent in the world of 3D turn based RPG's.

I'd probably root for a VII remake, just because the graphics difference between that and VIII was huge. But, story wise idk, I loved them all....

I think i just might be FFVII, the reason why i this is bc of the creation of the movie and other cg they have created in CC:FFVII, they have mapped and created new character models for the movie and crisis core for example could stife, and others all they would have to do do is downsize or transfer over the new modles to in-game concept for control, they have said before(S-E) that the most problem for remaking FFVII would be making the new character models for the the game well they kinda stuck there foot in there mouths on that one. they already put in the time for expanding on the story why not remake the begining to complete the saga they started.... just saying.

i still remember a quoat from S-E it would not be in out intrest to remake final fantasy 7 for the ps3 bc it would take us more the 10 years to complete. well i did see a tec demo when they launched there new platform, I think everyone has seen that aswell. why throw something in our faces almost 4-5 years ago and not follow throught with it.

This is a debate that could go on forever but to each his/her own I say! FF in the past was such a blast! Great stories, wonderful characters, intense fights, phenomenal cutscenes, the list goes on and on. FF7 was by far the most successful and I think everyone would like to see a remake but lets not forget about the other games that made FF fun! I loved X, VII, VIII but if I had to choose a fav, I would go all the way back to the SNES and FFIII! Kefka was so evil and the game was just so much fun! Let's just hope they pick a good one right?

hey, this is my first post. Just signed up to chip in to the conversation.

Personally, I'd rather Square Enix finish the projects they promised. Final Fantasy 13 Versus and Final Fantasy XIII-2. Plus they still hav to finish up kingdom hearts: Dream drop distance. I know they are planning to release a kingdom hearts collection on the PSN store, but they really need to finish out the story with kingdom hearts 3. I dont have a DS to play those titles and I've beaten all the others.

But if they do announce a remake (which I dont see where they find the time to), I'd want FF VIII remake, simply because I like squall better than Cloud. But a FF VII would be logical, seeing as how Crisis Core is going to be remastered.

Now that I think about, Crisis Core was one of those titles on PSP that was apart of the greatest hits collection. I'm pretty sure Sony planned to remaster the psp greatest hits for the ps3, which is why i hope birth by sleep becomes a greatest hits title.

I think FF7 should be re-done ONLY because it's generally known as the most popular,or gained them the most fame,w/e. People who are fans of a different FF than is made will still love w/e is made I think,or at least appreciate it.

As for me, I don't always read every comment. But in a thread like this where I am very interested in the topic, I read every single one!! It's something I like to discuss and take in new ideas. I respond to the ones I read that cause me to either agree with wholeheartedly and offer a compliment or if it causes me to think of an additional point to offer.

Has anyone heard of the PS3 psp remakes coming out? first is monster hunter, then Peace walker...I honestly believe that crisis core will recieve a remake. Not a remake exaclty, but a fine tune up for the ps3.
