Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Set For PS3 And Xbox 360
Is it possible not to have this in a video game collection?
Konami and Kojima Productions have announced the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. This sweet package boasts Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, all of which will be rendered in brilliant 1080p high definition. Even some of the 2D elements in these titles will be reworked to match the new HD visuals. Furthermore, Peace Walker will be the first title to feature PS3/PSP save game interoperability, which Kojima calls "Transferring." Once you transfer a save to the PSP or PS3, the save is locked so as to prevent accidentally overwriting progress or version conflicts. If you wish to change platforms, you just have to hook your PSP and your PS3 together to transfer the save.
Now, this collection is also coming to the Xbox 360 but obviously, "Transferring" is out of the question. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will release for both the PS3 and 360 in November, and we're guessing it'll be on your holiday wish list. In addition, there's a Zone of the Enders HD Collection, which features both of the first two titles and gives everyone a chance to see the sci-fi insanity in awesome new high definition.

They're considering the fact the 360 does better in sales in the US than the PS3. Looking at it's numbers, they're not going to just let go of a lot of potential consumers. They will think only focusing on the PS3 will keep them from earning more sales. Why else has there been so many multiplats this gen? Yes, the 360 is inferior compared to the PS3, but so is the Wii...and look at progress it make after about 5 years.

As I said, go ahead and do it and clearly you're not alone (given this site's preference) so that doesn't concern me. And by "not making you look good" I mean to say "it makes you seem immature-ish", especially over something that was more than likely to happen. I apologize if that offends you, but that's just how I look at it.

What's this about 'flawed logic'? I'm saying it as it is. Yes, the PS3 is stronger globally, but it's a still a fact that the xbox still outsells it in the US. I'm not an Xbot or a fan boy but it's hard to argue against something so painfully obvious. There's no doubt that the MGS sells well in Japan, but I'm saying the company was actively looking at the 360's American fanbase and took it into consideration. That's one of the reasons why it's multiplatform. It would've been better as an exclusive imo, but they already made up their minds.

This isn't MGS5 being announced multiplatform. These are 5-10 year old games being re-released for a quick buck on current consoles. The 360 versions will in no-way shape or form make the PS3 versions inferior or "dumbed down". If anything, it just means the 360 versions will have multiple discs. Not to mention MGS2: Substinence was already on the orginal Xbox. This isn't anything new, really.
Zone of the Enders was one of my favorite games on the PS2, as was MGS2. I never had a chance to play ZoE2 or MGS3 so this announcement is sweet.
Be happy you will get to play these games if you haven't. TGIF, people.

You don't know me very well do you? I'd personally be just as irritated that it was going to PC. the franchise really belongs on PlayStation, and the singular aberration on the Xbox does not alter that.
@Jimmy,
I don't know how unreadable it became, opinionated perhaps, but not unreadable. The day we see a re-mastered Halo 1 & 2 coming to the PS3 is the day I will start believing that platform exclusivity no longer matters. Until then, forgive me for thinking that platform exclusivity does in fact matter.

Your posts are never unreadable. They're very thought out, articulate, and well, opinionated, ha.
Like I said I understand the argument against multiplatform titles vs. exclusive titles for this generation (see: LA Noire losing content once it was made to fit on 360), but for HD remastered titles from previous generations of consoles? For better or worse, 3rd party exclusivity is dying (or dead) and HD "collections" are a quick way to make money without putting in all the time and money into making a brand new game.
It makes sense for Konami and I don't really get why it angers so many people. I can look over at MGS2 for my PS2 on my shelf and not think it has diminished in value because it will now be on Xbox 360.
Love the fact that Konami is introducing their 2 best series (in my opinion) of yesteryear to a broader audience. I don't know why its believed that 360 owners are less deserving of playing these games.

EXACTLY and don't forgot on Gamecube too. MGS was never exclusive to Playstation other than the titles you just mentioned. Just because the best in the series have been on Playstation doesn't make it 'Sony owned'. In fact it really started with Nintendo, but you wouldn't call it a Nintendo franchise, right?
Unless the words and symbol of Sony Computer Entertainment are on the front box, the developers can move to whatever platform they want.
@TheHighlander
How can Halo ever make it to the PS3 if it's a first party game? That's like saying Uncharted could go multiplat

At all the MS hate stems from them (probably literally) throwing money get games. It happened with Castlevania, it happened with Resident Evil, it happened with Devil may Cry, it happened with Final Fantasy. Need i go on? But the point is, once those games went to Xbox, the quality AND content both suffered greatly. Microsoft doesn't seem to care about the affect they are having on the industry, all they care about is how much money they can make off it it.
Also, I wonder why MGS is included in the package??

Man this is going to be so awesome! :D I'm excited. I love the MGS games so much, I'm glad I get to replay them in stunning 1080p HD on my PS3. And even glad I finally get to play peace walker.
I don't care what price is put on this collection, it is mine!
November is a good, very good month.
But one more thing... Why the hell would you put it on the 360!? I've read the comments above but I'm still un-happy about it. The MGS 2 and 3 don't bother me all that much but Peace walker? Come on! This is a joke right!? These games have nothing to do with the "MGS" Rising any ways. Snake isn't in it. I hate Rising!!!
But I'll forgive you once I get this MGS HD collection running on my PS3 this November.. maybe..

Kojima-san should leave Konami and make his own game studio, a Sony first party studio even. I'm sure Sony won't think twice before buying his studio. He may not be able to make MGS anymore but at least he will be free to do whatever he wants and achieve his goals that is only possible on the PlayStation.

I was watching the interview and there is a DS3, mouse, and 360 controller. He moves his hand over all three, then picks the 360 controller. I can honestly say I felt a little sad inside when he did that.
I had figured that he would pick up the DS3 to show that he still supports his fans...but no... He picked up the controller that every time I see I picture COD, Halo, and screaming fanboys...
Oh and finding out that Peace Walker is going to be on 360 almost made me cry.

KONAMI wants and needs a quick buck and that's why they are doing this. Besides, Metal Gear hasn't been a PS exclusive. Son's of Liberty was on xbox. The Twin Snakes was on the Game Cube (and you could argue Nintendo is Metal Gear's home because the original series launches on the NES).
The PS3 alone doesn't cut it by itself, if a developer leaves the xbox out, they will leave lots of $$$ on the table for lost game sales.
Even INSOMNIAC (2nd Party) realized this and they have begun making games for the PS3/360.

I like "gaming systems" and 360 fall into that category but I've always been a firm believer that all gaming systems should all be unique and have the majority of their library filled with exclusives. The 360 is becoming nothing more than a PS3 clone.
Everytime I a PS3 exclusive I say to myself, "man, the PS3 hasn't even begun".

EDIT: I can agree with what you're saying there. Microsoft have been negatively impactful during this generation. I don't mind some of the exclusive they've taken, but when it comes to stuff like them buying exclusivity for things like DLC, that's where I get annoyed.

Oh, and yeah I'm disappointed about it going to the 360, but look at it this way. How many years have 2 and 3 been exclusive to Playstation? Also, these games are too good to not be experienced by many more. I just hope the Xbots can appreciate these...

360 got Final Fantasy, so PS3 got Bioshock
PS3 got Mass Effect, so 360 got Metal Gear Solid
Also, aside from all the Xbot fans boasting the demise of PS3 exclusivity, I think it's great that 360 players will finally get a taste of some great games that they've been missing out on. Plus, some may want to try MGS4 after playing these and therefore wind up buying a PS3, finding that free online is cool and Blu-ray is pretty cool, play Uncharted 2 to see what the fuss is about and HEY PRESTO!! A new PS3 fan is born.

Something tells me that ta vast majority of the 360 getting the MGS collection, still won't get them motivated enough to purchase a PS3.
And believe me, we can do well enough without most of the whining, racist, sexually perverted rug rats, pre-tween ankle biters & older but still-immature post-juvenile delinquent smack-talkers bombarding the PS3.

Great, there goes my wallet. First God of War Collection, then Sly Collection, then Team ICO Collection, then Splinter Cell Collection, now a Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders AND Silent Hill Collection?!?!?!
Only collections missing are Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. If they're announced this E3, my dream collection will be complete. :D

Well, these are EXCELLENT news. I don't know why there isn't Metal Gear Solid in this "HD Collection". I would prefer Metal Gear Solid 3 - Subsistence instead of MGS3 - Snake Eater. About the 1080p, I REALLY hope it will be on Full HD (1920x1080 at 60fps) and not that crappy resolution of MGS4.

I mean if this was a new next gen ready MGS going multiplat, then maybe you would have a reason to sob & whimper in the corner, but this is an HD remake of Sons of Liberty & Snake Eater, two games which are old now, excluding Peace Walker which isn't exactly fresh anymore. Are we really stressing over 5+ year old games going multiplat now!? Freakin' wow!
True MGS fans will appreciate this game reaching a wider audience & enhancing it's fanbase. I'm personally glad 360 are getting this even though i will be buying it on PS3 myself.
I mean hell, the PoP trilogy stayed PS3 exclusive & those games were on the original Xbox, but hey that's fine huh!?

1) Clearly Konami are putting pressure on Kojima. He seemingly wanted to keep the MGS series off the 360, and yet both Rising and this new set are coming. What are the odds that MGS4 does eventually get the port treatment?
2) I know that it's already available on the Store, but why not include the original MGS in this set, or even Twin Snakes? I'm sure you all know my reasoning for this desire by now, and I would be happy even if it was little more than an up-res version of the original PS1 game. It's not as if there'd be any difficulty to it, I mean it's already been ported FFS.
3) This also makes it seem as though Kojima is having difficulty breaking away from MGS. It's clearly the money maker franchise, but they just keep getting churned out, and I find that saddening. I want to see the master do something different.
On the other hand, a ZoE Classics HD set makes me wonder if perhaps a third game is coming. There hasn't yet been a compilation without a new game on the way, as Sly had the teaser for 4, PoP was basically filling in around The Forgotten Sands for people that may have missed the originals, and there are rumblings of a PS3 port of SC:Conviction, as well as the unofficial announcement of SC:Retribution.
Peace.

I honestly think that one of the main reasons Playstation loyalist have a problem with former exclusives going to the 360 is that it usually means the PS3 version/set isn't going to get or be what it could have solely for the sake of being "identical" to the inferior console.

I understand people's argument about how the PS2 didn't have competition on the same level as PS2 las gen. Having competition is fine but MS has really used some dishonerable tactics. Nintendo has more money than Sony and Microsoft combined but you never saw them do what Ms did this gen. Which is ironic because Nintendo and Sony have had a rocky relationship in the past.
My point here can also be expressed by the fact that you don't see nearly as much distain for Nintendo on this site as you see for Microsoft. Nintendo is , as I see it, more respected here than MS. I know I respect them more. If Apple can into the game industry with a new console, I'm inclined to believe that would go the route of Sony and Nintendo -Inspiring quality and ingenuity, actually doing honest good for the game industry.
So, yeah the only good that MS has done for this industry is helping Sony become stronger and helping Sony realize how important keeping the Playstation brand in the gaming industry really is.

All I see are a ton of posts from people who want both collections, and no more than one or two people complaining that it went to the 360. THEN I see a whole lot MORE posts from the unbiased police attacking them with a holier than thou attitude...which you are now currently expressing.
There appear to be just as many people willing to come out of the woodworks screaming, "I'm not a fanboy" than anyone insulting the 360 or MS for any reason. So you can all just stop now.

People are entitled to not agree with the decision of these collections going to 360 as much as they are entitled to not have a problem with it.
It's actually the people on here saying things like, "Instead of being happy that we are getting the MGS collection, people are upset that 360 is getting too", that is kind of starting to irritate me.

Now I think the MGS remakes won't get much play on the 360 cuz it doesn't have a Call of Duty in the title or it doesn't have guns that have chainsaws built in them.
I think M$ just want these games on their system just for them and their fans can say ha ha we have this game too. What I say to that keep saying that because it seems anytime Xbots crow about the PS3 losing an exclusive they lose an exclusive.

I actually played MGS 2 again for the first time in like 10 years last year -- every bit as terrible as I remember, a serious misstep for the franchise in my opinion. Staggering how well they rebounded with MGS 3 and, of course, 4.

IMO, that alone would be the #1 biggest monster of any collection in the history of gaming.

I'm not sure if multiplat developers will put as much care into their HD collections as Sony does. Look at what happened with the Prince of Persia collection.. They basically just cranked up the resolution of the ingame graphics and called it a day.. All the game's technical flaws were still present and the CG cutscenes were still in blurry SD..
I sincerely hope that Konami does a better job than Ubisoft did.
