E3 2011: Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 Receive Dates

E3 2011 is heating up and EA has delivered a couple of very important release dates.First up is the hotly anticipated Battlefield 3, which is now slated to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 25, which means it gets the jump on its primary competition, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The latter launches on November 8. Fans can also nab the Battlefield 3 special edition, which features the Back to Karkand expansion, which is an add-on that boasts updated multiplayer maps from Battlefield 2. There's also a beta test, and that's scheduled to start in September; DICE says the beta will be "open" but we don't have full sign-up details just yet.

Then there's BioWare's Mass Effect 3, which has received a launch date of March 6, 2012. The Xbox 360 version of the game will let players give voice commands in combat through Kinect; one of the sweet new features revealed for the game. ME3 had initially been scheduled for a holiday 2011 release but was recently delayed. However, we figure that with the onslaught of titles slated for the fourth quarter this year, gamers will have plenty to tide them over until the third Mass Effect arrives next March.

Voice command tech is impressive, but not for me. I would stick the button presses, especially since what you say is NOT what is said by the character.

The Kinect voice control is really cool when you can start and pause a movie, but when i sit down and think about it, it's kind of foolish to scream across the room to pause a video, especially when i'm watching it alone.

I didn't care for the voice recognition during the cutscenes, but I thought the use of voice recognition during combat was awesome.

I think I would pay for a headset or some other device that did that. I don't really care for many of the other kinect features/integration. However, that being said, the use of kinect with Ghost Recon during the weapon customization was quite impressive. But you then see how it fails completely when he takes it to the "test range".

Anyway, can't wait for 8 PM eastern!

But why does it use the kinetic for this? Why not just the regular headset mic? Anyone knows? Does it perhaps read your movement too, or something?

Reason I ask is cause there was a game for the ps3 a while ago that had voice commands (I can't for the love of god remember it's name now) but that sucked big hairy balls, it could hardly recognize a single command unless I spoke v-e-r-y s-l-ow a-n-d c-l-e-a-r. Some commands were simply impossible to say, I had to use the menus for those commands.

If ME3 becomes anything like that then I'll march with a huge "NO THANKS!" banner over my head.

I would guess you're thinking of Lifeline and not SOCOM, which also had voice commands.

Oops...I thought you wrote PS2 not PS3. Was it an RTS? I seem to remember one with voice commands (EndWar, according to mindmurderer69).

I see no reason why these features wouldn't work with the PS Eye...aside from M$ $$$.

@BeemBoom;

It's said that the Kinect interface does the voice recognition so the developers can easily integrate voice command without much extra work.

I saw the Ghost Recon Future Soldier demo with Kinect and thought it was the coolest thing shown for the device thus far. Search it up on YouTube. I still wonder how movement will work, unless the game is a rail shooter.

I'm curious to see what features they'll carry over to the PS3 with Move and the PS Eye.

The Reckoning actually looked interesting. I'm going to need to play ME2 before I decide on ME3.

Yah! The Reckoning looks like what I actually wanted out of the Fable sequels.

BF3 was pretty mind-blowing to look at. Felt like I was watching CNN or something. Definitely more interested in that than MW3. Also, I wish ME3 looked less shootery. The ending of the trailer reminded me of last year's trailer for Bulletstorm. Oh well.

From watching the Battlefield 3 gameplay this much is obvious:
CoD:MW3 is how Hollywood wants combat to look like, Battlefield 3 is what an actual battlefield looks like.

bf3 looks cool but will the gameplay be smooth enough to take on mw3 is the question.....hopefully the mp is awsome!

Did you watch the gameplay? It looked amazing. I am for sure more interested in BF3 than MW3. I think that if CoD didn't have such a large following of people that only care for the name BF could easily over take it in sales

It must be said though, Coverton, that we have not seen much gameplay footage of mw3 yet (at least I have not?). There may of course be a reason for that, but still.

why just push on the kinect issue... they should also have voice commands if people choose on the ps3,like end war. plus bluetooth is much better than their wi-fi. sign me up for BF3 ima be on that, IMO COD is way over rated anyway, the only thing thats cool from COD is zombies. COD = pea shooter BF3 = Destruction.

Voice recognition is cool, but completely unnecessary. Not to mention it takes longer than pushing the stick in one direction and pressing X.

I'm going to have to give Battlefield 3 a shot. I was really impressed with the gameplay trailer they released a couple months ago, but I don't know if I'll want to buy it right off the bat.

Damn, just way too many "must have" games going into my list, and without even a job now.

Hmmm, I wonder how much they're paying for giving blood these days?????

really starting to wish sony went with a kinect type thing instead of a wii knockoff!
is really cool just calling out a character, and the attack requested instead of having to go into the games menu and select it.
future soldiers really the one making me want kinect though, i mean that video they showed was so freaking cool!

BF3 was real meh for me, cant believe im saying that!
have loved everything up to now, but this just bored me!
ME3 on the other hand.........

Ah well, makes sense. Two years later, spring season. I'll be getting thsi for the 360 however I won't slurge out money on a Kinect, even for Mass Effect. Shepard's voice is shmmexshy enough and I don't need to demoralise my team with my terrible vocals. Avoid gimmicky shit.

Quite sad how this is the only feature so far that has made me approve of the Kinect.

I have both BF3 and MW3 pre-ordered, but I am more interested in BF3 since it will be the first proper Battlefield game I have played, I don't count Bad Company 1 and 2. I only have MW3 pre-ordered to see the conclusion of the Capt. Price and Soap Mactavish story arc. I also have the Collector's Edition of ME3 pre-ordered, and I am super excited for it already.
