E3 2011: Sly Cooper Returns In Style

It was a great franchise. ...wait, did I say "was?" Is, damnit, is!

It's the latest exclusive title for the PlayStation 3 and it's the return of that bad-ass blue raccoon, Sly Cooper. The game is called Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and the trailer shown at the conference is definitely encouraging. The recent Sly Cooper Collection was great for the long-time fans, and we've been hearing hints about a fourth installment ever since that assortment of remade titles arrived. Some didn't think it would happen, as developer Sucker Punch has been hard at work on inFamous 2, which releases this week...how could the team be working on two huge projects at once? Well, obviously, they have and we can't wait for the new Sly.

And now, onwards and upwards to...Dust, the new online shooter that seems great for sci-fi aficionados.

I knew it. There were actually hints of this a while ago. A voice actor reported not too long ago that he had been in contact with Sucker Punch about Sly Cooper. The last time something like that happened was with the possibility of inFAMOUS 2 being made. And we all know what the result of that was.

That's how you do it!

Too cartoony my ass! I'm one of those people who can play Mario 3, Yoshi's Story, or Klonoa and enjoy every minute of it.

Bring it on!

Sly's one of my favorite animated characters, he's suave and cool.

Who said too cartoony?

That's a game people, that's a straight up game. They are colorful, fun and fast.

I loved the trailer.

I love the cartoon artistry. It sort of reminds me of the watercolor anime style of Valkyria Chronicles in terms of presenting a different art style.

With the rate I'm playing the Sly collection. By the time I finish it, Sly 4 will be out. Now someone needs to announce a proper Jak and Daxter sequel.

The PS3 needs more platformers, this is a seriously welcome addition.

Agree, it's amazing how they're still alive on ps3 though.

It just goes to show you that ONLY ps3 officers the best of the best in all genres*

Agreed.

Scarecrow, you're so right, that was one of the facets of the Sony press conference that I liked, there was no over concentration on one genre, and the games were either exclusive or featured major exclusive elements.

not true.
only PCs have 2D puzzle platformers like super meat boy.
only PC offers those old school frustratingly hard punishing puzzle styled games.
not to mention the PCs the only platform that offers survival horror games.
amnesia is the scariest game i have played since the original resident evil!
jump onto steam and search the indie section you will be amazed what styled games you will find, only on PC.

YOU LIED TO ME! Sly 4 is being developed by Sanzaru Games, the team that ported the Trilogy. I thought that would be the case... but you made me believe that Sucker Punch would be back. Actually, it's cool. An honest enough mistake, as no developer had been announced (I think) when this article went up. Although maybe you should change that.

Count me in on a purchase. I never played any of the Sly games until the Collection was released. You could see some of the infamous gameplay taking shape in Sly.

Never played them (please hold your boos and rotten eggs til I've finished!) but I really want to try out the collection sometime. Needless to say, if I like them, this will be on my list for sure.

Man, I was waiting to see the E3 trailer on Sly, but as soon as Sly topped the weather vane, my $&&^&#%&%# computer froze up until right after it had already ended.

Guess I'll either go on-site or YouTube it.
(EDIT: Oh never mind, I see Ben has just put up a whole E3 show thread).

Woo hoo!!!!

I loved me some Sly on the PS2. Didn't pick up the Collection on PS3 though, since I caught wind of the 4th installment being worked on.

Holy shiznit!!! Where am I gonna find time to play all this stuff?!?! For a quieter year, Sony still managed to wow me more than MS once again. Ryse, Gears 3, Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Halo Anniversary look pretty cool, but everything else screamed "LAME" on the MS stage.

Still need to pick up the collection. I really enjoyed the first one but other games took precedent in the PS2 days.

I am excited that Sly 4 is in the works. I just recently played The Sly Collection, which was my introduction to the franchise. I liked all 3 of the previous Sly games, and I only experienced one downside while playing them. I absolutely hated it every time I had to play as Bentley, his missions were at times frustrating or just plain annoying. I didn't like some of the stereotyping that took place in the series either, but overall the games had a good story arc and were worth playing.
