E3 2011: Watch The Full Sony E3 Press Conference Here
Okay, so you missed it. You were busy. Had to work. Had to deal with the kids. Got hooked on your favorite game.
Well, in addition to catching all the relevant headlines from Sony's E3 2011 press conference right here at PSXE, you can also watch the entire event, courtesy of G4TV. Catch it all as if you were right there: the amazing Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception footage, the new Sly Cooper announcement, the PlayStation Vita's impressive tech and games, and Kobe Bryant fiddling around with the PlayStation Move in NBA 2K12.
So what was your favorite part? That new PlayStation 3D Monitor that lets two players see a full image when playing what used to be split-screen is way cool. And both Dust and Resistance 3 were definite highlights in our book. ...still, nothing could steal the show from Drake's new adventure.
Hell, just give it Game of the Year right now.

I, myself, am quite excited about the Vita, though (not so much about the name, but what'evs). Even if it meant nothing more than ps3-like games on the go, that would be good enough for me, but it will also be my first smart handheld device. Yep, I'm getting the 3g model.

PS Vita priced at $249 when people were scared it would retail at $400-$500?
New 3D 24-inch monitor that has the ability to allow two completely different views of the game locally allowing two players to play head to head on the same console and screen - including glasses and game for $499? I *never* anticipated that screen bundle, or the local head to head play feature. That is very much a 'wow' for me.
The clarity of the Uncharted demo on the PSVita was ridiculous. Remember that was a camera over the shoulder of the player live on stage, no tricks or post processing to enhance the screen, and yet that was clear enough to be visible in the conference room and for us at home. That told me masses about the Vita hardware, the screen is bright and crisp and that was a 'wow' for me too. The other thing that was a 'wow' was how mature the Vita hardware was and the number of games running live on stage in a playable state.
Perhaps I'm easily impressed, but relative to MS who I might rate as a 'C' passing grade, this was at very least a B+.

We already knew about the NGP's (I'm still going to call it that) capabilities ever since we saw it in Tokyo! Heck it was running Uncharted there... - now we just got to see it for one more time. And then the other NGP games they showed just wasn't appealing. I thought it would have been cool if they showed a bit of Gravity Daze since that thing looks as if it can truly implement the whole augmented reality thing.
We all knew it was going to be priced @ $250/$300...that honestly did not surprise me. I mean c'mon Sony has played the game over and over with Nintendo, they learned once with the PSP and a 2nd time with the PS3 (REGARDING PRICING) -> and now...they are definitely going after them. But kind of bummed out that they got rid of the memory storage =/
And ok as far as PS3 games though...yes there was Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, StarHawk and DUST 514...but maybe it's time for something else...instead of a TPS/FPS? And while Uncharted goes more under Action & Adventure...I still wanted a different genre. LIKE...AN RPG. Seriously, where on earth have they gone?
I'll repeat what World has asked...where was Last Guardian, AGENT, Versus XIII, and a new God of War? And ok...I was kind of waiting for Kevin Butler too, for some humor...though Tretton is quite charming at times ;)

how can you be shocked by a price, i mean seriously?
its definitely a excellent price for the device, but it certainly did not have the wow factor a new game would of had.
hell, GOW4 or KZ4 would of shocked people more then the NGPs price!

hes got a point 24 inches is just too small, i mean come on my freaking PC monitor is larger then that!
they should of gone for that at that price, but offer a larger screen at a slightly higher price point.
there going to loose allot of interest in that simply because its far too small!
ok for people playing in a bed room, but what about the people who want to play in the living room without spending 2+K on a conventional 3D TV?
great idea, poorly executed!

You know what? I guess I must be the one being unrealistic to think that $499 is a pretty damn good price for a 24-inch full HD monitor with 3D and dual view capability, a set of 3D glasses and a copy of Resistance 3. I mean, far be it for me to suggest that someone whining about the size of the thing is being entitlement minded. If you are so concerned about the size of this *monitor* then go buy a regular 3D TV and stop whinging. Personally, I play on a 22-inch wide screen display by Asus, a 24-inch screen would look great by comparison, either would be perfectly big for single player gaming of any kind other than the main living room. I mean come on, this isn;t a freaking TV for your living room, it was described as a monitor for your desk, bedroom dormroom etc. If you are so demanding that you can't see how this is a great product idea, then go buy a 32-inch 3D TV and see whether you can find room on your desk, watch out for the sore neck you're going to get trying to play games on a screen that big 2-3 feet from your face.
Beamboom
Tuesday, June 07, 2011 @ 11:31:40 AM
But I dare say most of us use the ps3 connected to the tv in the livingroom, sitting in a sofa several meters away. And to those users this itty bitty tiny screen is *useless*, regardless of price, also because it needs to be used as a TV display.
So it's not a question of pricing, but usage. And this is, at best, a niche product only because of the size.
To try to make a really bad analogue: If a fully functional, high quality Sixaxis Sony controller the size of a lighter were sold for $3 USD it would, objectively speaking be a darn good deal. It's just... it's useless!

The game looked good, but the animation seemed off. Like when Drake walks by a door, his hand flicks out. Why? Who walks like that? The animation didn't fit the rolling of the ship that well, and it looked like his body was all over the place. And the trailer was pretty lousy. Most was from the previous scene shown. Oh wait, we have a city. But Drake's running down a friggin' tight hallway. Okay. A horse? Cool! Oh, it's in a dang tight, linear canyon. Meh. I think I will dub this series 'One-charted' because there is only one way to go, and one way to do anything. Now the game may be better. But, right now, I'm not impressed.

But my opinion on this is irrelevant, imo! Cause just look at all the crap that's being posted about other games, with COD being the prime example of course. How much of that is analytic and objective? In my opinion there is an *obvious* difference in;
A) How exclusives are treated compared to multiplats
, and
B) How Uncharted is treated compared to pretty much the rest of the entire world.
If you voice *one* word of criticism, objective or not, elegantly worded or blunt as a bat, you immediately are called insane, idiot, jerk, xbot and whatnot, and get *hammered* with thumbs down (or, used to be. We've grown a bit more sober with the thumb usage lately, something I'm very happy with), even with good chances of the owner of the site pretty much asking you to sod off.
That's why I call it a holy cow, cause really, it is!
(Just for the sake of getting my argument across I'm being a bit categoric here now, there are always exceptions, of course)

I think the term is Uncanny Valley. When something attempts to look real, but starts to look very fake. That is what I see here. Like I asked above 'Why did ND put SO many animations in the walking sequence?'. Personally, I think they overdid it and it doesn't look good to ME. And Uncharted is too linear for my tastes because I cannot play it more than once, but it is an enjoyable experience on the first run. But, at times, it's as scripted as a telemarketer. (and before someone yells 'Dynasty Warriors!', I EXPECT that from that series just like I expect to throw a footbal playing Madden)
My wife sat down and watched the first little bit of the press conference. When I said ' Uncharted 3. Yes!' She was like 'Alright' and got up to walk away. I said 'Babe, what's going on? Her exact words were 'I know what's going to happen. Drake will fall off some stuff, say something funny, shoot some people and something will explode. Call me when they have something new on.' Sure enough, that was pretty much the demo.
Now, I know that may not be a fancy enough an explanation for the self-professed geniuses around here, but that's what I got.
@ Highlander
How am I trolling? Abject trolling would be if I went and posted in EVERY Uncharted article about how I dislike something. Kinda how you and others do for Square and CoD again and again and again and again even in articles that are not wholly pertaining to it.? I hate Twisted Metal. HATE it. Never liked it after BUYING four games. But I challenge you to go in any TM article and see a post from myself saying that. I've expressed displeasure with Killzone 3 and WKC, but I did it in ONE article. Every time I see you write ' Square is dead! Level 5! The NEW kings of RPGS! ' I don't attack you. I disagree with that statement but you are entitled to say it. I may thumbs you down , though. Haha.
@ Ben
I like how you write but in this comments section, you tend to bully people and try to diminish and discourage them if they don't do something you deem the 'right' way. Like when AK278 said that multiplayer truly began in the arcade you implicated him and everyone else who enjoyed arcades as 'pale friendless virgins'. Now if someone said that about RPG fans, you'd probably blow a gasket. And then ,somehow, curling would come up. Haha. Just ribbing you. Or like when somethingrandom was defending COD, you blasted him for doing that but you have no words of discourage for posters who put TWICE as much effort into bashing it to the point that fans cannot have a friendly conversation without wading through tons of hate and thumb downs. Be consistent, fair, and try not to take things so friggin' personal when it comes to opinions. Life's too short for that.

Nah. I'm happy just calling you an ass and leaving it at that. I might not agree with Beamboom all the time, but I at least like him and respect his opinion.
It's easier to respect someone who isn't a complete dick. It's even easier to respect him when he regularly brings up points that make me think and consider whether my points should be reconsidered! You've never done that. I think you're just the type to get a sliver of an idea, then cling to it and expand it without any reason or objectivity to expand upon it. It's 3rd grade research.
I actually wasn't going to comment at all because I didn't see any of conference due to playing a baseball game. And I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
Unlike some porkers around here (or should that have been a singular noun?), I only comment when I feel like I actually have a legitimate point.
Thanks to your assery, I do now. You are a dick, and that's a very potent point that I raise. Why call me out when I've said nothing to this point?
P.s. The difference between you and me, PCG, is that when I dislike a game, I can still see quality. You think highly of games you like, and poorly of games you don't. I'm not a fan even a little bit of God of War, but I at least recognize it's a freakin' sweet production. And I fully understand why people go banana's over it!
On the other hand, I don't really like Dynasty Warriors either. Maybe something is wrong with me since I see absolutely no redeeming qualities in that title. Perhaps you could enlighten me on why that franchise is better than Uncharted? I'd love to hear your objective approach to that one. I love that so far your only defense for it is that you "expect" it to be the way it is. Tell me, please, why it's better than Uncharted.
See... I just don't think you're capable of doing that. You're just loud with a chip on your shoulder. The saddest part is, you don't quite have the articulation to express the legitimacy of that chip. That's why people gang up on you. It's like listening to that annoying nasal-y kid with way too much to say about his cool niche card collection using his prowess of collecting as an excuse to gain your friendship and bump his friend count up to 2 beyond that imaginary friend he can be heard muttering to on the bus on the way home from school - probably talking about how much of a meanie the teacher is because chances are, he doesn't even get good grades which means he's not even the kind of dork that will eventually prove to all the jock kids that someday he'll be rich from his cognitive prowess in technology. A sad existence that will leave your manic depressive single mother bewildered and embarrassed. Even the nicest kid on the block can't help but shove your twinkie in your nose given the opportunity. He's just THAT unliked. And he wouldn't even be that bad if he would JUST learn not to be so inwardly focused on a self that shouldn't be focused on. Sure he has actual talent somewhere, but his obsessive thinking disallows him from ever.... EVER... finding his actual potential.
You are that kid.

You did this entirely on purpose. You knew exactly what sort of response you would get, and you did it so you could dump on everyone and come across as high and mighty. That's first.
Second, I can pretty much guarantee you didn't even know the animations in the E3 trailer were due to the rocking boat, and then you desperately tried to backtrack. But of course, you're not capable of admitting that.
Criticism is in how it's worded. Criticism has respect for something, and others who hear the negative feedback. Needless bashing based on nothing of substance to incite problems? That's what you do. You may notice that you seem to be the only one who thinks he's getting "bullied" around here. You also may notice that just about everyone on the planet disagrees with everything you say and more importantly, HOW you say it.
I've told you about this before. But obviously, you have no intention of changing. So maybe just adopt the golden rule- if you don't have anything nice to say about something, don't say it.

This is what you do. You purposely post something that causes problems, then act like the poor put-upon victim when it happens. Constantly trying to prove your superiority to everyone here is getting annoying.
Quick, run over to a Microsoft forum and explain your problems with the Gears 3 trailer at the press conference. Then accuse them all of stomping on your opinion.
I have no problem with a single solitary member other than YOU. I don't like people who exist solely to cause problems in the community. But I guess you can't understand that from my viewpoint, because obviously, the only viewpoint that matters is yours.

And I was right too. As soon as someone agreed with me, you posted a monster of irrelevant BS, calling out people for no good reason. See? I told you I try to post only when I know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, you get nothing from me. Another thing that sets us apart... And yes, I know that posting dislike for ANY Sony game will get heat around here, but that is what this section is for. I should be ahle to say it. But not to be attacked personally when I'm commenting on a game. Just because it's written eloquently does not make it any less uncivil. That's not me being high aand mighty. That's me living my golden rule: Do unto others. I respect others opinions as jaded as they may be and I don't attack others personally, and I expect the same.
And you don't bully me. But I've seen others capitulate of fear of banishment.

"PorkChop, let me explain something to you-
You did this entirely on purpose. You knew exactly what sort of response you would get, and you did it so you could dump on everyone and come across as high and mighty. "
When you post something that is deliberately inflamming and inciting of a response. When you post an opinion that you know to be a) far from the accepted view, and b) extremely likely to earn a quick, heated or passionate response in a given discussion forum you are trolling. by any definition, your original post and much of your response in this discussion since has been nothing short of trolling, you know it, I know it, and Ben knows it. Unfortunately, some people indulge folks like you more than I do, or Underdog does, and they think we're being hard-butts (being polite) for jumping on your trollish behavior. That's fine, but you know after 20+ years online dealing with folks charging others to cross bridges, I know a troll when I see one.

Linearity allows us to TELL A STORY. It allows us to experience a cinematic story with developed characters. If Uncharted went free-roaming, I'd be pissed. It would entirely ruin it.
I'm surprised people will complain about shooters like CoD being the "same ol'" when at the same time, they basically want every game to have the same elements.

But that also means that I want, yes *want*, a world where I will not like every title released. Many of them will not be bought by me, but for the right reason: Because it's not my style, and *not* because they are crap!

Beamboom - yes it's an upcoming MMOFPS that takes place in the EVE Online universe. It's console only but it allows console gamers and PC gamers to cooperate together and alter the EVE universe. PC gamers will take control of space and all the space battles, corporation business, crafting and other intensive details while hiring mercenaries, the console players in this case, to fight other corporations on the planets surface for control of the planet itself and the resources it provides.

Honestly, why does everyone think that every game should be a completely open world/sand box game? I mean I get the point, I was one of those criticizing FFXIII for it's linearity. However with FF games there is plenty of context to make such a complaint valid. Besides which it's an RPG and they are in general replete with backtracking, sidequests and towns to explore, FFXIII had very little of this which only emphasized it's linear nature.
Uncharted is very specifically a story based game where each chapter advances the story towards the final climax. The Multi-player element is arena based and open in that sense, but that is not what the game itself is about.

Great conference. Only thing that I agree made it not as good as last year's was the lack of secret exclusives...
I'm guessing the Tokyo Game Show will be the big event this year (it has been pretty weak for many years now).

No disrespect, but can someone please explain to me why the big three console companies can't hold a much longer press conference? They can have a press conference Anywhere and Whenever they want. They don't have to be in the same auditorium as the other video game publishers.
It's just a once a year event. Sort of like the summer of triple A action movies.

I was waiting for the blow me away kinda moment. Hearing sly 4 was being done I already knew about it as i'd heard it on here before.
I am not saying I won't get a PSV jst not day 1. I did like the video I seen of the game game where the guy was using the back touch screen to move a ball or something round the screen could have been Katamari or something similar but it looked interesting enough.
I did enjoy seing the videos for Battlefield 3 and MW3, recently seen one for Driver San Francisco too.I think deep down we were all waiting on a MGS announcement (knew it wasn't going to happen) but it could have and God Of War 4 which never happened either, same as The Last Guardian. Oh well enough gaming goodes to keep us going this year and no doubt some will be pushed back into 2012. so plenty to look forward too.

1st all the technical hitches, wasted 200MBs downloading all the spaces so i could watch it in home, then 20 minutes staring at a black screen!
got sick of waiting and tried to watch it off the blog.
that was not any better either, for some reason first time i started the video it started at jack inviting kaz out to show the NGP, then i re loaded the page and it started at them talking about move for infamous 2!
was so slow too, 2nd time i thought stuff it this will do but then every few words jack got out it would freeze to buffer!
what happened sony, i thought you said you have the best streaming service out there!
yea the best, thats why it started twice, half way through the show, and it was slow as a slug!
then i FINALLY found the full thing on gametrailers, watched through it and........ IS THAT IT!!!!!!!!??????????
wheres GOW4?
wheres syphon filter 4( I TOLD YA!)
wheres the getaway 3?
wheres heavenly sword 2?
wheres those 4 announced games sony santa monica were suppose to announce?
one was dust 2014 i think it was called, so wheres the other 3?
wheres all the new game announcements?
all they had was dust 2014 i think it was called, a new NGP game, and a new star trek game!
WOW, THAT WAS TOTALY WORTH ALL THE HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WORST E3 EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wheres the big shockers we have become accustom to?
wheres the gabe coming out and announcing valves finally bringing there games to the ps3 moment?
year in year out we have had at least one announcement that blows everyones minds, everyone says HOLY SH*T I CANT BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED!
then re wind the tape to make sure they saw that they think they saw, and its remembered forever!
what will be that moment from this year.......
M$, and EA were not much better either.
i mean the best part of M$s conference was ghost recon future soldier i have to admit the kinect features were really cool!
only good part of EAs presser was insomniacs reveal, but not really worth it because no gameplay was shown just a teaser trailer no real info.
thats it?
for the industries biggest event!?
come on, i was expecting SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more then that!
:(
cant believe im saying this, but looks like ubisoft will win E3!
only company to announce a few unexpected games, and show off some really cool features.
i watched every second of there presser, M$, EA and sonys i was scanning through bits because they were boring!
cant believe im saying this, but E3s open for ninty to steal the show a second year coming!
hey, rarer things have happened........ ok that was a lie.
;)
god, when the fate of E3 rests in nintys hands you really know your in trouble!
i mean if you dont bring your a game to E3, where do you bring it?
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And secondly it was now way near as bad as last year, I think I was a little disapointed as i was expecting Square-Enix to appear there, but obviously they have there own show.
Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 both looked great. I sold on both of them. Also I thought they did a great job demonstrating the PSVita, playing games from PS3 to PS..PSV seems a good way to go.
I tried the Home E3 booth too, never worked at all, but i watched it all in HD on the PSBlog anyway so i was fine. The only real boring part was about move, which i just did not care for.

Seriously, coherent thought please?
You know, Sony spent the best part of two hours talking about upcoming games and significant products and still it wasn't enough? I mean really? OK, they didn't mention *every* game, they didn't show *every* game, but let's face it, had they tried to, their conference would have been nothing more than a mish-mash of 1 minute clips. You are putting on a show, each segment has to make sense, you choose the upcoming blockbuster exclusive games - such as Uncharted 3 and resistance 3 for some special treatment. You spend a long time talking about the hardware, services and games for your upcoming refresh of your primary hand held gaming product. And even on the Vita the games presented were again primarily exclusives that are well established system selling games.
I honestly cannot see what else Sony were supposed to do in their conference. Perhaps next time Tretton should just step up, say "Roll the tape" and sit down for a 120 minute montage of every game coming soon to a PS3/PSV near you?

no ones still answered my question.
wheres the gabe coming up and announcing portal 2 is coming to the ps3?
EVERY E3 theres massive shocking announcements, this years was as shocking and entertaining as watching the grass grow!
especially after all the rumors of syphon filter, GOW4, QDs new game, a new medievil game, MGS5.
what happened to the 4 titles sony SM were suppose to announce?
E3s the industries BIGGEST GAMING SHOW!
its like having the Geneva car convention, and the biggest most amazing car is a freaking ford fiesta!
if you dont bring your A game to E3, then where do you bring it?
i would be singing a different tune if this was TGS, or gamescom, but this is E3, the worlds biggest gaming convention!
id be like having a spike game of the year award show and having zero game announcements!

Name - VITA, strike one. Carrier - ATT, strike two. Not a great start for a new system. Hopefully $250 and Uncharted will save this ship.

Only reason my friends game on 360 instead of PS3 is all because of party chat. They still think Halo is the greatest game ever too, think Uncharted 2 is "meh".
I really don't see their logic.
One thing I do know is that PS3 needs party chat, and it needs it now!!! Otherwise, I'll never play with friends online. (Stupid friends)

Unless stated so I'd find it strange if it's not coming for the ps3 too, eventually. But perhaps, to give th ngp a little bit of extra whomp on launch day they will wait with upgrading the ps3 until that day comes.

My best guess is that it is related to the multitasking challenge of having two separate programs (the running game + chat software) both accessing the audio hardware (especially the mic) at the same time... Maybe?
Pure speculation of course.

Sony has done a great job in reducing the memory footprint of the resident portion of the OS to help game devs. If they threw in a significant chunk of new code to handle cross game chat it would eat into the memory budget for the resident OS. Considering the memory available, it would be extremely difficult to find the additional room needed from what is currently committed to the OS. It's not like there are lot's of pointless OS services remaining resident.
As much as many people want cross game chat, it's more than likely not going to happen.

Sure, FF XIII Versus didn't get the spotlight, nor did Last Guardian, Twisted Metal or Agent.
But I think there was more than enough to satisfy the gamer inside me, and with a new hardware launch, it's no wonder that it hogged the spotlight for some time!! Sony are just promoting their new wares, can you blame them?!?!
As for Move, I thought it was awesome to see many developers throwing support behind it. Ken Levine's speech hit a nerve in a good way by addressing people who doubted the Move and saying that he was once like them, and now loves it!!
I reckon FF XIII Versus will get a big showing next year, and while I miss Kevin Butler, I think Sony is being wise and drawing him back a bit so he doesn't become old and stale too quick. Good idea.
All in all, Sony's was a good show. Nothing spectacular, but effective and satisfying nonetheless. MS' show was an improvement on last year's, but not by much. The Halo 4 trailer certainly knocked it up a few notches for fans though. Trusty Halo, the ultimate fallback strategy.
Now for Nintendo. Let's see if they can blow us away like they did last year!!!

That being said, they touched base on almost everything I was hoping they would- HD collections, Sly 4, sick Uncharted 3 trailer, Vita price point. Wish they showed a little more Starhawk gameplay, and twisited Metal- but there is always the actual show floor for that.

That's one reason I don't mind too much when Sony talks of adding move abilities to a game. the other aspect is that move specific games actually make good use of the controller, and thanks to the 'buttons'- whatever they are - the controller allows the player to do things without shouting things like 'Lightsaber ON!'.
Sony mentioned 3D a lot too, which I think is kind of overlooked. I was thinking about this. 10-15 years ago it was all about VR. People thought that VR would be the next big thing. Fastforward to today.
PS3, with full 3D and Move controls in the same game. Think about it. You are playing a game in real 3D (even with the active shutter glasses for extra VR credibility). But more than that, you are acting in three dimensions thanks to the controller. That is exactly what people were talking about almost as science fiction just a decade or so ago. Are we so jaded that we can't see how ridiculous this is?

All I can say is OMFG!! That 'controller' is freaking *huge*. I mean *huge*. It has a 6.2-inch screen and at least a 1-inch border all around. It looks very thick, and must be all of twice the size of a PSP. But other than the sheer size and weight, the controls are in the weirdest place possible. How are you supposed to weild the thing in action? Just don't drop it though folk...breakage could be unfortunate.

Moving to Wii U I think the only people excited are those who live and die Nintendo. I mean if I already have a PS3 why would I want a Wii U? I can play Ninja Gaiden 3 on the PS3, I can play Dark Siders II on the PS3 but can I play something like "Uncharted 3" on the Wii U? No.
As for the Sony Conference I can understand it was all about the PS Vita so they had to do what they had to do.
