E3 2011: Top Gun: Hard Lock Takes Flight Next Spring

That Top Gun game for the PSN didn't turn out so well.

But that doesn't mean we can't have a great game based on the iconic movie, right? 505 Games has announced Top Gun: Hard Luck; the project features a new storyline and a new wave of elite naval aviators from the Top Gun academy, and it'll come to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC next spring. Fighters will include the MiGs and F-14 Tomcat and the special Hard Lock mode ought to be a crowd-pleaser: "players perform air combat maneuvers that deliver an explosively satisfying visual payoff that brings them right into the action." This could be the game that the classic film deserves, and we're hoping the developers utilize the capabilities of consoles to make it shine.

Games based on movies aren't always the greatest but they've been getting better this generation. So there's always hope.

Eh, I don't have a lot of hope for this game, but there's still plenty of time for me to change my mind. I thought the movie was very good, but let's face it, games based on movies usually tend to suck. I hope this one turns out to be very good.

This is going to fail hard, only the very first Top Gun game was good. Downhill from there.

The thing is, if they create a truly good game there should be no *need* to tie it to a known brand - it should speak for itself!

The HAWX series as whole wasn't that bad, nor was it unplayable. It scratched the itch.

The last Top Gun game on the PSN wasn't very good, so I go into this title with a cautious optimism.

If the devs want a chance with this game, they better stay clear of Ace Combat. It's Project Aces return the Playstation, so I expect some good sales.
