E3 2011: DMC Sales Hit 10 Million, New Film On The Way

Okay, so he looks like a heroin addict. The game could still rule. And so could the live-action film adaptation.

During Capcom's E3 press conference, they made a few DMC-related announcements, including the fact that the franchise has topped the 10 million sales mark. They also confirmed the aforementioned film; Capcom will be collaborating with Sony Pictures' Screen Gems. The movie will be based on the upcoming new installment, a reboot currently in development at Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory. The film is being written by Kyle Ward, who has penned screeplays for Kane & Lynch and Hitman, and in general, we figure the long-time DMC fans should be intrigued. Unfortunately, Capcom didn't provide us with an estimated launch date for Devil May Cry. It'll continue to be a common topic of conversation, though.

So who has high hopes for this film? Could be good.

After seeing the new pre-alpha gameplay trailer I'm even more excited for this game....

The film however not so much as we all know the story behind movies based on games, with that that said hopefully it doesn't suck to much..

To be honest I really don't want to see anymore movies based on games though, but well see.

Really? I felt the animation looked stiff and the level design a bit bland and uninspired... Mind you I have no problem with the new character like some people but, it just seems to be missing something for me... the animation feels like something done on the PS2... maybe I'm just too spoiled by better games and this might be too early a version of the game to jump to conclusions... will see.

"I felt the animation looked stiff and the level design a bit bland and uninspired"

Looks like someone didn't read the words at the very beginning of the video that clearly state's "WORK IN PROGRESS" were you really expecting an all the way finished trailer of 100% smooth game-play. As far as level design is concerned I don't exactly remember any of the older DmC titles having such GRAND inspired level design either, you spent most your in dark rooms or some kinda of tower/cathedral structure (with the exceptions of certain parts of DMC4.)

We probably won't see the Finished product for another two years, that's plenty of time for them polished.

To me they're off to a good start (for this to still be a work in progress) and again to me it looks very promising. I can say that because I always played DMC for the action I honestly couldn't get into the original storyline like everyone else.

I can't believe they made Dante look even worse with this newer haircut. They completely shaved his sides now. Along with the feminine posture, they mind as well make this a new franchise.

I like the new Dante, this game is gonna kick some ass. It's probably a long ways off though. I'm not interested in the film as it will suck. I only watched one episode of the DMC anime, I wasn't too impressed.

I really hope Capcom has some technical people overseeing this project as we all know Ninja Theory can't do squat with UE3 for multiplat.

Yeah I have to agree with that last statement while I not one for letting technical errors ruin my overall experience with whatever game I'm playing. It would be nice if the screen tearing stuff was absent.

a few hiccups are never a deal breaker but they take you out of the experience ya know? I hate that. Enslaved was a great game but it would have been better without all that mess going on with pop in and such.

I want the game though for sure, I like the story here.

I maintain that Capcom should have let Ninja Theory use the MT Framework. That was honestly one of the best things about both DMC4 and RE5. That engine is absolutely masterful... but NT has experience with UE3. Ugh.

I agree with Lawless, but at least Dragon's Dogma will use MT.

I'm more curious as to how the game would be, but then again the movie may be good for something.

The movie will be like the rest. and the new game is lol worthy. capcom knows how to treat their loyal fanbase. actually comes from a hardcore former DMC fan. capcom you can go to hell. and the new RE most as amazing as the new DMC.lol.

I wasn't incredibly impressed with the PA-Gameplay of the new DMC, I mean it isn't horrible but I'm sure it won't impress me. I know Enslaved did everything but even mildly impress me.

On a side note, this "Wii U" console hasn't grabbed me yet. I need to see some real games in action. I find it funny how people say "I'm getting this game for Wii U" when they really haven't seen the specs or know how well it runs.

Happy to see the sales, sad to see no collection. I really expected one here. Unsure of the new DMC, will watch the trailers this coming weekend, but literally bashed my head on the bus of the window on the way home from work when I read that the film would be based on the new game. Basing it on the game never works. Use the characters and implement them in an entirely new story and it can work. That wasn't my issue. My issue was that it was based on the new game, but I've consoled myself with that choice and now only see it as a chance to further the DmC name, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Besides, with Ninja Theory at the helm, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it for what it is. HS and Enslaved weren't masterpieces, but they both had fantastic animation and voice acting, as well as top-notch, connectable stories. If DmC follows that route, and keeps Dante as a smart-as, I'm sure that I'll be able to get over the character change.
Peace.

I love how the new Dante looks older even though it's a prequel. When I learned they were re-booting the series I was pissed. Why'd the have to f*ck over something I really enjoyed? I only had the pleasure of playing DMC4 and watching the anime.

this is why nothing can become popular today!
a new IP releases, if its received well a new one releases 3 or so years later and brings so much new to the series.
then if thats received well, every year we get a new title with maybe 1% as many new features as the original 2 brang.
cough assassins creed!
oh how i wished gaming stayed in that stereotype, only kids living in there mothers basements play them!
1 then we would not have these crappy kiddy/ soccer mom games!
2 we would be seeing proper innovation in series, instead of the yearly milk fest!

I cannot apporve of this reboot. It looks horrendous, I cant even Enjoy DMC1 and 3 now because I now know the story leads to nowhere. DMC4 could have easily had a sequel especially with the ending with Lady, Trisha and Dante all together. Now there is no conclusion I just can be bothered to put my time into something that is incomplete and abandoned.

I hate the new look for Dante in this reboot but I have to say the gameplay in that new trailer looked pretty amazing. Please lose the graphics from Enslaved though.

We just need one director that can make one vg film like they now make comic films and I think we would be set.

Is it just me or does it seem that once some staple PS2 games went 360 (Westernized) they got worse?

No..don't want to see a DMC movie..games to movies simply turn out terrible..I mean you can't take a game people know about and change the story to sell your movie..Fans get very pissed about that..

In regards to the game..I simply can't get amped up for it..I loved the DMC series but this just doesn't mix well with me. I have no issues with rebooting the series even though it didn't need to be.

You turn around and give the main character a complete make over. He looks strung out on coke..And to think, I was pissed about the new Cole from inFamous..He's far more acceptable then this new version of Dante...

You know this reminds of when Square-Enix released FF13 and all the hardcore FF Fans said the game sucked because it wasn't like the older FF games, but then the game itself was actually good it just wasn't a good FF game as I remember them saying, and the sales themselves were pretty good from what I (while gaining a new fanbase).

I can honestly see that happening here I can see this new DmC gaining a new fanbase (and it's clear to me noe that that's what NT and Capcom are clearly after, which makes me feel bad for the old DMC fans) but at the same time losing a little over half of the original fanbase.

Ther still a good chance that it could do well (sells wise) it's possible it can happen....
