No Sequel For Lara Croft And The Guardian Of Light
We really liked Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. It was one of last year's best downloadable games.
But unfortunately, we'll probably never see a follow-up effort. In speaking with Joystiq, Crystal Dynamics global brand manager Karl Stewart said the team is focused on the new Tomb Raider reboot. The "experimental team" that handled Guardian of Light (one of the better top-down dungeon-crawling experiences you'll have) doesn't plan on issuing a sequel. "We're not making a second one," said Stewart. And why?
"Oh no, we're not making a second Lara. For us, that Lara Croft was, in a way, it was sort of the furthest possible extension of that iteration of Lara. Once we finished Guardian of Light, obviously we knew we were making this version of Tomb Raider."
The game did well sales-wise but the online co-op feature slipped a bit, even if we didn't care that much. So basically, as the last Lara Croft was only experimental in design, that experiment is over and the team is moving on. FYI, the director for Guardian of Light - Daniel Neuberger - is now the director of the new Tomb Raider reboot.
