No Sequel For Lara Croft And The Guardian Of Light

We really liked Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. It was one of last year's best downloadable games.

But unfortunately, we'll probably never see a follow-up effort. In speaking with Joystiq, Crystal Dynamics global brand manager Karl Stewart said the team is focused on the new Tomb Raider reboot. The "experimental team" that handled Guardian of Light (one of the better top-down dungeon-crawling experiences you'll have) doesn't plan on issuing a sequel. "We're not making a second one," said Stewart. And why?

"Oh no, we're not making a second Lara. For us, that Lara Croft was, in a way, it was sort of the furthest possible extension of that iteration of Lara. Once we finished Guardian of Light, obviously we knew we were making this version of Tomb Raider."

The game did well sales-wise but the online co-op feature slipped a bit, even if we didn't care that much. So basically, as the last Lara Croft was only experimental in design, that experiment is over and the team is moving on. FYI, the director for Guardian of Light - Daniel Neuberger - is now the director of the new Tomb Raider reboot.

Pity. I thought it was a pretty solid download game. I think the new Tomb Raider "reboot" should do well though. I'm not a Tomb Raider fan per se, but when the reboot arrives I'll be looking out for the PSXE review before deciding on whether to buy it.

It was one of the more enjoyable titles last year and I was hoping it would continue. At least the new TR looks like it won't disappoint so I'll pick it up.

It was quite fun but I don't think it needs a sequel so soon. Its a great experience, I've enjoyed it alot with my friend.

A sequel just wouldn't be the same.

I'm glad they are focused on the reboot, I can't wait for that. I wish it was coming this year.

They had sent me a free access code to try this game out about 3 weeks early.

But for me it wound up being just OK because I'm not much for top-down styled games, so I couldn't get into it(even though I really wanted to).

I couldn't either, I liked the art style but the controls were weird and top down is something we are just too far past now to consider.

I just purchased Tomb Raider Trilogy and have just Underworld to finish. I want Guardian of Light. These is one o those franchises for me that I would always put attention to.

GoL is great fun. The kids and have a blast with it...matter of fact my 7 yr old daughter and I ripped thru a few levels last night between munching on nachos, she loves it. That said, I'm not sad about no sequel- not every game needs one! The new Lara looks awesome too, very cool.

i wish they would go back to pandemonium after they do the TR reboot.
