PSXE Poll Update: Readers None Too Impressed With Wii U
There were two new hardware announcements at E3 this week, and you got a chance to see both during the Nintendo and Sony press conferences.
First, we wanted to know what you thought about the Wii U. Granted, while this is a PlayStation-oriented site, most of our readers are multiple console owners and in truth, gamers are gamers. So we wondered if the new Wii, with it's nifty touch-screen technology and high-definition, impressed our readers...as it turns out, it didn't. The majority are either indifferent or just plain dislike it, and only a few say they're very interested. Perhaps when we see more games some consumers will change their minds; Nintendo really didn't show much in the way of actual software at E3. We saw some tech demos and got an idea of the system's features, but that's about it. At best, the Wii U is a wait-and-see situation for most PSXE readers.
This week, let's talk about the other piece of hardware: the PlayStation Vita. It was officially named and priced during Sony's E3 press conference and unlike the Wii U, there were games galore, including a very impressive onstage presentation of Uncharted: Golden Abyss. But are you convinced? Or are you on the fence? Let us know.

I have said it a few times already, I won't judge it or condemn it just yet. I want to see the thing working and get a low down on the specifications. From what I have read about what other developers are saying, a good few of the hard core developers are quite excited about it.
Some do go as far as to say the GPU is pretty good in the unit and should permit native 1080p for most games released on it. We'll see what transpires anyway...

Vita will be mine. I still get fairly regular mileage out of my PSP, and considering I'm hoping to be setting off on another road trip by the end of next year, I'll certainly need it alongside me. Not yet sure of when though.
Peace.

As for the Vita: it certainly looks impressive and I know Sony will put out a quality product, but I just don't like mobile gaming. When I'm out, I don't have time to play anything more than a silly game on my iPhone. And when I'm at home, well, that's what my ps3 is for.
My one hope is that they do more to integrate the Vita with the ps3. My biggest pet peeve on gaming is when there's one game that really deserves to be on a main console, but for whatever reason, gets stuck on a mobile platform. coughPeaceWalkercough

Uh, Nintendo? When we told you that we wanted an HD system, we weren't telling you to release an HD system. We were simply telling you that you screwed up the Wii.

But the gamer in me is on the fence about the launch lineup so far. It didn't help that the 3DS had such a strong first party lineup showing at E3. Uncharted is definitely as advertised but the touch controls seem to add more' hand holding' to a series that already had a little too much for my tastes to begin with. But I am glad that it is more puzzle focused than action. And I'm not looking to to buy PSN titles(Wipeout, Stardust, and Hustle Kings) at Vita prices. Reminds me of when Sony repackaged High Velocity Bowling for $40. And yet another LittleBigplanet and Modnation Racers? Say what you will about Nintendo's handling of franchises, at least they put a respectful couple of years(if not more) between iterations.
I am looking forward to Gravity(looks amazing!!), Little Deviants and Ruin. My only issue with the latter is I'm wondering if Sony is going to make you buy the game twice for the PS3/Vita compatibility. That would be unfortunate if they did.
I really hope the ratio between games on the Vita like Gravity and shooters are 100 to 1 in favor of Gravity. Shooters already reign on the big ones. No need for them to try to engulf handhelds as well.

As for Nintendo... I was a little boy once, you came into my life and created so many memories. For that you'll always hold a place in my heart, but these gimmicky consoles with wacko names just doesn't do it for me. Sorry old friend.
Does anyone else hear a foghorn in their head every time someone mentions the new Nintendo? Or is that just me?

I hope in some stage of the ps3, you could use is as the main controller for the ps3. That would be the Nintendo Nightmare I suppose. In a sense that would be Nintendo's knock out, their next gen console already surpassed by a current gen.

i've been interested in the wii, but its wimpy specs always stopped me from making a purchase. upgraded specs will make me a multiple console owner.

So it's a wait and see there.
Vita is also a wait and see. It fittingy looks like what I would expect from the next PSP. and similarly, I suspect the majority of it's offerings will be somehig of an appendage to PS3s core offerings. Seeing that many of PSP's better titles got ported to Ps2 and now Ps3, I suspect I'll have the opportunity to play most of the Vitas best games on Ps3 as it is.
I like mobile gaming and all, but my iPhone and current PSP offer up plenty of simpler games on the go to entertain my time.

PS vita, the screen display was crazy it showed clear when it was shown in somebody hand the resolution unbelievable. i liked the function it had with Uncharted whole touch screen flow. the pricing for both models is well worth it. am i interested.... YES. wil i own 1.... NO.
handhelds are great but there not for me in terms of time.... PS3 takes up damn near 60% of my time when it was working & to have a handheld just as powerful i might as well stop progressing in life cause i would spend the 40% on vita. i also think the 3ds is a raw handheld its not on par with vita in performance but i see the fun in them. Wii u will sell like crazy
if they can back it up with solid software. i just think this is what wii should of been on realease.
