Ninja Theory Won't Forget What Makes Devil May Cry Great
Everyone is a little leery about the Devil May Cry reboot and that's mostly because the word "reboot" is involved.
Besides, Capcom has farmed this esteemed franchise out to another developer: Ninja Theory. It's a fully competent team - Heavenly Sword remains a highlight of the generation in our estimation - but can another developer really understand the essence of DMC? Well, maybe you can judge for yourself:
New details have come to light after last week's E3 presentation and it seems that Ninja Theory takes this project very seriously. From more weapons to new foes and abilities, they claim the fans will love it. Here's some more info:
- There will be interactive environments and the world will shift and shape; changing the levels will be a new feature in the game.
- New world, new Dante and new style.
- The director working on the project has worked on all previous Devil May Cry games.
- Ninja Theory respects the DMC brand and wants to innovate the series.
- The new weapons will add an additional layer of depth to the game that will integrate with the combat and puzzle solving.
- Fans of the previous games will be pleasantly surprised at who will be in the game.

I do feel that DMC is usually very polished no matter what generation its been in. I, however, can see a distinct lack of polish in the e3 trailer, and the character design sorta makes me feel like i'm playing through someones depressing nightmare.
I think i'll just have to sit and wait and see for this one. Definitely not a first day buy for me. I love Heavenly Sword, but even that had technical hiccups. I just want to play a DMC game that worth playing over and over again. I can pick up DMC 3 anytime and be completely enthralled.

Yeah! That's probably why it is says "WORK IN PROGRESS" in the beginning It pains me that people keep treating this trailer like a final product. With no release date were still a long ways off from the final product being close to playable.

Poor Ninja Theory accepting this project. And here goes Capcom ****** another one of their franchises. Let's count how many they've already *****d:
-Resident Evil
-Street Fighter (SFIV revived it but it was dead for years because of the SFIII reboot)
-Megaman
-MVC3 (sucks, you know, I know it, even the "hardcore" players know it)
-Dead Rising 2
Wonder what's next?

but they need to get their hand off the Japanese
games series. and we all know Capcom is to be blamed for this. this game needs a better treatment for the love of god. its the one that created the extreme combat genre. and the father
of all action games back in the PS2 times.

Everyone's doomsaying about this one based on information that is sketchy at best. Yeah, franchises often fall when handed off to a new dev, but that isn't always the case. Bioshock 2 was a decent enough game in its own right. Sony's PSP iterations of their PS3 franchises are, in most cases, exceptional, and we're all looking forward to Sly 4, yeah?
Besides, the listing of this one as a reboot is still up in the air, as NT and Capcom have said that it'll lead into DMC3. That would make it something of a prequel. Oh, ye of little faith, how about we wait until hands-on impressions from the DMC loving press begin to leak out before passing judgement... Actually, I hope that they go back to the difficulty of DMC3, DMC4 on hard was too easy for what I was expecting.
Peace.
P.S. Capcom cannot be stupid enough to want to do an RE collection and not a DMC one. Come on.

I'm just using this as an example, but you know how in the comics you have all these different iterations of Iconic characters like The Amazing Spider-Man, The Spectacular Spider-Man or the The Ultimate Spider-Man, X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, The Avengers, The Ultimates, hell in the regular Marvel universe Nick Fury (The guy from S.H.I.E.L.D. with the eye patch) is/was a white guy, but in the Ultimate universe he's Samuel L. Jackson... Yeah they are all basically reboots and different iteration of one another and they share the same story-line but each tells it in a slightly different way.
That basically what's happening here it's thing same thing only it's video game character instead of a comic character. In one universe you have the old Dante, in the new one you have the new Dante.
Those of you who read comics might get where I'm coming from with this.
Also they have changed his Face and Hairstyle again, probably because he looked exactly like that Tameem guy or whatever his name is. I take as a good thing as I do not know why he did that in 1st place.
Also I like the fact that Capcom has a guy on the inside who has worked on all the previous titles.
P.S. I can't wait for this game.

As you'll read below, perhaps the white hair is some kind of early DT. Maybe that explains to some effect why he was shown to have it as a child? Also, I see this as a great opportunity to expand the game mechanics, by keeping older styled DMC in what I will from here-on-out refer to as the "Flare" segments, while shewing in new battle mechanics and methods with the new style.
Sogi,
Really? We have little more than baseline information on the game, and as far as I'm aware, only two trailers. The CG one that was shown at TGS last year, featuring Dante in the asylum. What we saw of him outside the asylum was most assuredly stylish. He may not have had the old swagger, but the new style is still very decent. The only real change is that he smokes here.
The E3 trailer is gameplay, and I saw a lot of slicing and dicing not unlike what he used to get up to. To say that he lacks flair is kind of silly when you've got a clip that barely runs for two minutes. The colour change is likely going to act as the new devil trigger, being implied that it will be a precursor to the activation that is seen in DMC3. Mind you, this is a prequel, so it wouldn't make sense for him to have access to the devil trigger, and perhaps the switch will allow him access to the abilities that we are familiar with from previous iterations.
Honestly, your argument is seriously flawed, based on almost no information, so as I said, let us wait until more concrete information is released and we get a few people familiar with the history of the series impressions.
Oyashiro,
Hey, I got nothin' against some Sex Pistols in my DmC. It'll be a step up from that abortion of a soundtrack of DMC4.
Guyver,
That is an excellent comparison, and one of the most fitting that comes to my mind.
Peace.

I've developed such an acute preference for NG's style of play mechanics that DMC just doesn't compel me like it once did.
I also have a hard time placing faith in Ninja Theory. They've proven their ability at storytelling with both HS and Enslaved but came up short of my standards in the game play department.

I won;t hold out too much hope but I suppose I can keep a more open-mind about the reboot.
P.S. My heart skipped a beat or two when "Dante's" hair changed to white...interesting stuff

I love DMC to death, i even enjoyed DMC2 so i am pretty worried but also excited about where they're going to take this reboot. I don't have much faith but i'm willing to give it a chance.
Lucia may even return, i mean the lads at Ninja Theory love their red heads.

as if crapcom destroying resident evil was not bad enough!
DMC4 was ok, not great, but ok, but definitely NOT a DMC game!
i wish they would just do a HD collection and leave it at that!
DMC3 was by far the best in the series, and still one of my favorite ps2 games ever!

take the transformer movies for example...I grew up on transformers so when the movie came out I was amped but when I found out they changed the story and added some characters I was turned off. I gave it a chance and I saw a very good movie that made me a little less critical.
I like the new dante, lara croft, hell I like the new cole (not a reboot i know. how many times can dante look the same and never change. this reboot gives a look at a younger dante not a different dante. im sure the core of him is still there. for the record this is just my opinion.
