good luck with that ea. moh was one ugly looking game and sold a tiny fraction of cod bo. bf3 looks good but i seriously doubt it will reach even a fraction of mw3 sales. ea wants this be heavyweight fight but it really isn't until they are a proven contender.

i wish they would just shut up and concentrate on making the best game possible. ea is starting to sound like its employees in its forums. arrogant a-holes. also, if those stories are true about ea cutting content out of bf3 for preorder bonuses i won't even consider buying the game.

Well, based on the comments of folks here MW3 doesn't look much better (if any) than Black Ops. So if that's true, there is an opportunity for EA to capitalize on. Also, I've heard some shooter fans expressing Call of Duty fatigue, so perhaps it's time for a different franchise to shine?

MOH was by far the best FPS single player experience I have had in a very very long time. The MP was fun I thought but needed better matchmaking and a few other small details added and enhanced. I sold BO and still play MOH and BFBC2 as I honestly believe both games are more fun to play

well, i've heard mw3 preorders are even higher than cod bo so there's no real evidence of cod fatigue. analysts have said they expect mw3 sales to be even higher than cod bo so it's going to take something spectacular from ea to even approach the level of success of the cod series.

i still think it will take activision making a really bad cod game to dislodge some of those fans. the sooner it happens the better. it's not healthy for the industry to have one game sucking up all those sales.

Well, you're telling them to shut up, but it's not like EA is making the game, DICE is. It's EA's JOB to talk about it and market it, kind of one of the major things being a publisher is about.

Also I have to agree that I didn't like MOH, but I loved them on the PS2 so I can only hope the next one will be better. And still, it doesn't matter about sales when you're talking about the quality of a game (though obviously you'll wish the quality games get the sales, they don't always.)

ea can talk up their game. that's fine, and you're right that's a publishers job. ea spends so much time talking about cod though. it gets old and irriatating to here them go on and on about cod. ea talked a big game with nfs shift2, and look how that turned out.

you are also right about sales not representing quality. i have no idea why the cod series gets the obscene amount of sales it does. it's a decent run and gun shooter, but i see nothing in its quality that warrants those type of sales.

i also agree with some of highlander's sentiments about shooters. they are getting old, and they aren't my favorite type of game either.

to all the people rooting for cod to fail i say what's the big deal of cod is replaced by yet another military fps? nothing's really changed, and we still have a market oversaturated with fps.

I have a new 55" Bravia and yes, I think it was an ugly looking game. It was just more Unreal, glitchy nastiness we have come to expect from that dated engine. The MP portion looked a bit better but that's only because it was using Frostbite.

If you think MOH was a pretty game, then you have very low standards.

just remember the creators of COD don't even work for infinity ward and took a large chunk of the team cod fans have come to love. the only thing that might save them is IW teaming up with sledgehammer. the only difference ive seen mentioned is the ability to turn your scope on and off other than that its going to be the same old same ole "yawn". i for one need something new and improved and cant wait for October for BF3. and with all the other great titles comming in Oct. i for one wont have the money or need for another "yawn" cod title

"I like everybody else have been wonderfully blown away by the tank scene in Battlefield 3 [shown off at EA's E3 conference]. But as I was sitting there - and please know that Battlefield is one of my favourite series, so I'm not knocking on it, I mean, I really love it - I realised that what most people are talking about is how amazing it looks, and that to me is potentially worrisome. It's not that I don't think DICE should get that kudos; they deserve it and their game looks beautiful.

Yeah, but you know, if you're playing a military shooter, and tanks are part of the game, there's really only so many ways to implement the use of a tank on the battlefield. If the entire game is that, then OK, criticize away, but I think Jaffe is being a bit pompous complaining that a tank in a game plays like...well...a tank in a game.

I can't figure out *why* it has taken so long to get destructable environments, or better AI. Better AI is something I think everyone has wanted since just about day 1 with this kind of game. Good AI makes playing against the system challenging without being stupid because the AI resorts to cheating.

Destructable environments just seem like the natural way to go. inFamous 2 has pretty good destructable environments, it's kind of satisfying to watch a tree explode into a shower of leaf debris when you blast a car sitting next to it.

especially since its a car racing game, with missiles flying everywhere destructible environments just seem like a no brainier.
watched xplay today and they had a interview with david, he was asked is there one thing that worries you with the industry today?
he responded simply the budgets, he pointed out a example a dev he spoke to at the show was working on a game with a budget of 70M!
he said i wish developers would sacrifice 20% of the graphics to bring down the costs, and also to add more things gameplay wise.
allot of games these days dont do things gameplay wise simply because of graphical limitations.
either that or because so much time is spent on graphics theres by the time they get to the most important part of the game it gets the scraps.

as ive said a million times give me a game with fantastic gameplay but crap graphics over a game with even mediocre gameplay but such good graphics it makes uncharted 3 look like the original crash bandicoot!
i like pretty graphics as much as the next guy, but as ive always said a boring game that looks good will always be a bad game.
a fun game that looks crap will always be a good game.
graphics are one of the LEAST important things with games, the sooner developers realize that the better.

little ot, but you seen the tech demo nvidia released awhile ago for ray tracing?
just saw it last night, cant remember what its called but its on there website.
you can download and run it and it lets you play around with cars, environments, lighting effects things like that.
gobsmacked how good it looks!
i mean the texture detail is not the best ive seen on a PC, but just the way light is reflected was truly amazing!
i had a bugatti on there, and looking at the chrome on the vents at the back of the car i could actually see a reflection of the building behind me.
never have i noticed lighting effects like that, my jaw just hit the ground!
im starting to change my tone on ray tracing now that ive seen how much it can improve things, i mean i swear to god the chrome vents looked freaking real!
and i thought GT5 looked good, this was just unreal!

Changing the name doesn't mean a whole lot unless the games look and feel distinctly different. That being said, I see not enough differences between the two series to really allow that. They're both modern shooters that lean slightly towards realism over the arcade-y action set forth by CoD. The sharing of technology implies the next MoH will use the Frostbite 2.0 engine, which means that the developers will have to tweak something to make it look different, although I must say, setting Battlefield in cities and the like, while MoH takes the stage in more natural environments is a good prospect as it makes them seem slightly different. They do need to take one either the super-realistic or super-arcade route, because balancing the pair somewhere in between just isn't good.

Excelsior, they already are a competitor. A lot of people think BF2 was the better game including me. Doesn't COD already hold things back? Silly reason to not purchase one of the best games out there.

I look at this like Rocky 3. EA is the hungry driven Mr. T and Activision is complacent Balboa. Watch the movie if you don't know what happened.

i was referring to sales. bf3 might turn out to be a better game but i don't think it will beat cod anytime soon in sales. ultimately, the market will decide who the winner is. anything is possible, though. things seem to go in trends. maybe cod days are numbered.

as for cutting content from the original game and using it as a preorder bonus that no doubt will be on psn as some overpriced dlc...well, i just hate stuff like that. ea's been one of the worse offenders out there regarding their handling of dlc, and overpricing it on psn.

In my opinion BF series is far better than MW series. It's marketing man. Activision pastes their ugly face to everything!!! Activision/COD is the definition of commercial. Plain and simple. The games are fun for that initial wow factor, but they get old really really fast. It's the same ol, same ol... I think if EA wants it to be big then they better get as much air time as possible promoting the game. TV Commercials, Magazines, Facebook, heck even those Slurpee cups at 7-11!!! LOL.

I thought this was blindingly obvious. But hey, at least EA aren't throwing Respawn's project into this fray, which is supposedly a sci-fi shooter.

Honestly, I don't see the point of it. MoH and BF, IMO, are too similar to differentiate from a gameplay and thematic perspective. Don't get me wrong, the two will be seen to be different by the masses, which will allow EA to sell them without the same sort of backlash that CoD has attracted.

I'd like to say more, but I have an idea for elsewhere, and wouldn't want to spoil it.

I still believe COD3 is the best COD ever. KZ 2 and 3, SOCOM4, MOH, and BFBC2 are all better games. sales don't show that, but they are all on such a higher quality level.
I wish we lived in a world where people would pay attention to quality and performance before they make a choice on which game to purchase.

BF3 I know I am already getting. All of BF3's gameplay is looking amazing. and the bit I saw of MW3 didn't look so good and it wasn't even gameplay. that's a bad sign.

To be honest, Battlefield 3 certainly seems good now, such as the CoD4 of CoD, but in a few years choosing between BF & MoH vs. MW & CoD could be like choosing between vomit & spit vs. feces & piss. Which would you choose?

At least there will now be a split balance within the fps section; there may be a fanboy war like no other.

I wish this was a article about Dark Souls vs Elder Scrolls.Those two games should be garnering more attention and hype then either of these generic shooter games.It's sad to see people flock towards the same repetitive franchises that release each year.COD is part of the reason why this generation has been a disappointment and why creativity in games are stale.The truth is,neither franchise is anything special regardless of how much they sell.There are much better games to look forward too this fall,but sadly these two franchises will be what the masses prefer.I hope both of them tank,but I know that won't happen.

bf3 overall will be a better experience than mw3, it selling more than mw3 well that wont happen obliviously cause is cod. both teams working together is great cause it can really add more great experience to bf3. moh wasn't the best looking game that's true, but what danger close was trying to do is make you have a better feel or understanding pretty much on what the soldiers go through etc. if dice can take that and than add to it with their style, it probably be the closest thing to what full war experience should feel like. imo when it comes to military fps games of modern day i want that full experience of war i don't want this non realistic quick scoping or ridiculous perks and I in team. all military divisions in rl is about working as a team, not about being the one man army hero. understand its a game but when it comes to modern day soldiers or guns etc don't you want it to be as accurate and realistic as possible to the war experience?

Sure it's over played, hyped, talked about, compared, hated, but that just means that game has generated a lot more attention then most other games.

Maybe some people here should at least finish the game's campaign at least before hating.

You might argue that "the game sucks too much to play the campaign!"

But you need to at least play that before hating, you would have more reasons to back up your points.

BTW Battlefield 3 looks awesome regardless of what people say!!!
