Kojima: All Our Major Titles Will Support "Transfarring"

It's such a funny name. I just like saying it.

And it's a great idea, too: "transfarring" will let you transfer your game saves from the PlayStation 3 to the PSP and the upcoming PlayStation Vita, giving us more incentive to own both gaming devices. This feature will first support Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. It's way cool and here's the good news: according to a recent Kojima Productions podcast, "transfarring" will be available in all future Kojima titles. Said Kojima:

"We have a plan moving forward, where all of our major titles will have this transfarring functionality. So you’ll buy the next big game from Kojima Productions on PS3, and there’ll also be an NGP version [PSVita] and take it on the go."

That sounds like something the hardcore MGS fans are gonna love; why not take our favorite games on the go? Why not play 'em in our living rooms, "transfar" them to our handheld device, and keep playing outside the home? It's a brave new world and although we don't like all the new advancements, this one seems like a winner.

And does it mean Rising will hit the Vita...?

Kojima already said this a few days before E3, in his interview with, not 100% positive who but I think it was with Gamespot

This is *good* news for PS3, Vita and the PS4 to come. This is the kind of mobile gaming integration that real gamers want.

...but people have forgotten about the cost... buying the same game twice over? It is still a question the Sony marketing guys are going to have to answer convincingly!

Q!

assuming i read that correctly the MGS HD collection will come with the ps3 and psv versions so you wont have to purchase both versions.
hope this is a step every publisher will take, as you said buying all the ps3 games we want is too expensive let alone buying them AND psv AND psv games!

If all I would need to do is buy one copy of the game at regular price, I'm sold.

My thoughts exactly. Samething for that title "Ruin". If you have to buy multiple copies it kinda ruins the experience for me. No pun intended

I think Ruin is going to be a PSN game no? So there would be no need to buy two copies. You download it to your PS3 and Vita. Only one transaction, one download.

I assume it is anyway. Ha, I could be wrong. Just seems to make more sense that way. Would be lame if they expected us to fork out full price for both versions.

If Rising is coming to the Vita, then I'm completely sold on it. As others have said, I just hope you don't have to buy the game twice. Perhaps they'll have a special bundle for a little more that has both versions of the game in it.

You know, if they're doing this, and games release at the same time, they need to offer promotional bundles of PS3 and Vita versions together for a obviously discounted price. After all, it's the same game, but on two platforms. I would prefer for it to be bundled for free, but the realist in me says that won't/can't happen. So I'll take a half price Vita version with my PS3 version if I buy them at the same time thanks...

I wouldn't mind paying a little more to get both versions in one retail package but if they expect us to pay full price for both versions, that is going to put a damper on the whole idea of taking your games with you on the go.

Yep. I really do think that they need to carefully consider that. Ultimately I think bundling the Vita version (for half it's stand alone price) with the PS3 version will sell more copies on both platforms. I don't know how many people can justify $100 ($60 for the PS3 version + $40 for the Vita version) on a game, that's essentially $40 more for the ability to take it with you. If it was $59.99 for the PS3/PS4(looking to the future) version, $39.99 for the Vita version and $79.99 for the bundle, I could see myself buying into that on my favorite games.

Sounds like another reason I will have to get a Vita. Does this mean that they are going to go back to making Sony exclusive games or will Microsoft just not be getting this functionality on their versions?

they just won't feature it for 360. still mad at konami... peacewalker on the 360 is an outrage.

I think they'll also get cloud storage(console2console)
But they'd have to enter the handheld market for on the go transferring, and i don't see that happening for quite awhile!

I wonder if Peace Walker and these HD remakes on the 360 was done against Kojima's will. Remember the article about him being pissed off about something?

i really doubt it was done against his will. he was probably persuaded by others and just went along with it. mgs2 was also on the original xbox, but i was really surprised peacewalker went to the 360. that gives me very little hope about a possible mgs5 staying sony exclusive. what's even stranger is i hear the hd silent hill remakes will be ps3 exclusive.

as for what kojima was upset about...who knows? he said something he had delicately worked on for a year was rendered meaningless. i took that as the announcement of psp remaster games blowing the lid on peacewalker appearing on the ps3. you could also take his quote as meaning one of his projects got cancelled, but you would think kojima has the clout to make any game he wants.

I think my biggest disappointment this generation(besides Resident Evil 5) was Konami's willingness to sell out to MS and start making MGS multiplat. A game of that caliber deserves the exclusive treatment MGS4 got. It's just not going to be the same franchise with it being dumbed down to work on the Crapbox.

But but Kojima has been made to create that awesome new multiplat engine and it wasn't at all a waste of time intended to make his games work on old hardware and fit on DVDs.

@jawk

i share your sentiments about konami. it's not just konami either. it's all those japanese companies that for some reason turned their back on sony at the start of this gen. they all covet the na market so badly they are willing to throw out their traditional ways just to get a presence on the 360. most of those franchises have seen a notable drop in quality plus the companies that got in bed with ms all seemed to loose money. so i don't think those companies such as square, capcom, konami, and namco gained as much as they think they have by supporting ms.

Makes me think of the Dreamcast and it's VMU games.

Anyway I wonder how popular this will be since people don't much like to buy the same thing twice. Like Highlander, realism tells me they can't just be giving a game away free, but man if you've bought a PS3, a Vita, AND the game it's not like they don't have a bunch of your money. Blu Rays come with digital pack ins now too, but that pack in didn't require a whole different development cycle.

If and when I get a velvita I think I'll stick to my old practice, console games at home and portable games on the go. No need to mix the two.

I love that idea, so much in fact, if GT5(6) whatever has a PS3/Vita transfer option, I am sold on that product, no questions asked.

Like most here if we have to buy 2 copies then they really killed it there.

If the data can just be transferred from ps3 to psV then this will be great.

I think that, for me at least, the bigger news here is that there'll be no more mobile exclusivity to MGS games. I hated that I couldn't play Peace Walker without having to also get a PSP. And with that coming to the PS3 soon and this news, I'm one very happy camper.

as long as i read that correctly for this collection will be getting both a ps3 and psv version.
hopefully that will be adopted by other publishers, i dont have enough cash to buy the games i want, let alone a psv, let alone the games i want, a psv, and the same games i bought already!
