Killzone 3 DLC Hits PSN Next Week

If you've already got the Retro and Steel Rain map packs, you'll probably want to nab the From the Ashes pack next week.

The next add-on for Guerrilla's excellent shooter is due out on Tuesday; it debuts on the PlayStation Network on June 21 and it'll only cost you $4.99. Four total maps will be included: two for Warfare Mode and two for Warzone.

Players will explore everything from the Mobile Factory - new resource production facility - to the Lente Missile Base, which is actually situated at the edge of the Kaznan Jungle. Those are two of the maps; Guerrilla says the other two will be revealed "soon." Well, it'll have to be really soon as everyone's gonna know in only a few days. Also, if you're behind on the KZ3 DLC, you'll be able to grab all three packs (Retro, Steel Rain, From the Ashes) for only $10.

Shooters tend to thrive on extra content, likely because everyone loves more maps to explore and conquer. We kinda prefer more weapons, though. But that's just us.

Should it be? The last map pack was free. I don't believe this one should be. They need to make some money too.

yeah, i dont think it will be free for plus members. technically all ps users are plus members for 30 days so thats a really bad decision on sony's part. we probably would've gotten this dlc for free with plus if sony didnt offer free plus memberships. as for the first dlc, wasnt that just an incentive to get it new? i think everyone got that map pack no matter which retailer they chose.

as for me getting dlc, i dont really buy dlc except for killzone 2 and that 1 map pack from mw1. mostly because i've moved on to a different game. i do hope theres a better level design in these new map packs though.

What bugged me about the Killzone 2 map packs was that hardly anyone played them. I bet there are more people playing them now but when I first got them everyone was stuck on Radec Academy.

I'm probably one of the most adamant about not buying DLC, & that's why I only try to buy the GOTY versions of the biggest hit games, but this is one of the rare times I'll be buying it.

I've already got the "Retro" pack that came with my Helghast Edition, but I'll be picking up the "Steel Rain" & "From The Ashes" packs in the near future.
And the only other one I just got to have is The Saboteur's "Midnight Show".

As for the vast majority of all the other DLC(and as Bender would say),it can all go.....

I like to reward the devs that actually create new content rather than holding out on content*cough*EA*cough*. Especially Sony's first party devs Naughty Dog and Guerrilla. I'll be picking this one up for sure.

You assume they didn't hold this back, but you never know. Stop thinking Sony is pure, they have a business to run as well.

Oh knock it off. If they were holding out on us we would have heard something about well before this was announced. This has nothing to do with thinking "Sony is pure". They have proved time and time again they care more about their consumers than most companies out there. They don't have a track record of nickel and diming people like EA and Activion do and you know it.

They don't have to talk about it for it too exist. It's called smart business...thats the whole point of DLC right. Get people to purchase more of nothing they could have included already on this disc. Come on...it takes games how long to be developed, but all of a sudden a few months later...they are able to release supposedly "new" material. Not far fetched, but at the sametime...its still business. If they cared so much, they would have included it on the disc or made it free.

Lets just say, they aren't as brash or exploitive w/ DLC as other companies are...*cough* ME2, COD, etc *cough*

$5 seems fair for the kind of map packs Guerrilla puts out. Much better value than the craptastic, over priced Call of Doodie map packs Craptivision puts out.

Seriously, especially for maps that are nothing more than card board cut outs and look like they're made out of bosal wood. These Killzone maps are amazing. The amount of detail, animations and stuff going on screen. These maps are just as alive as you and me. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Regarding COD, it all comes down to supply and demand...well not really supply, it's digital afterall, but COD fans are willing to pay $15, I'm sure Activision could charge more and have strong sales, but I think that even they know $20 for DLC would be silly.

Jawknee...why are you sensive bro. Calling me out...WHY? I thought we were pass this man. I said $5 was fair buddy, I was just hoping this would be free with plus as well. First map was pre-order bonus, and I got the second one free because of Plus. And I only have plus because of the hacker fiasco, so the second map pack isn't really free at all...only to paying Plus members if the PSN didn't go down. So at any rate, I was hoping I could get this free as well with my free 30day plus membership. Chill out man.

For someone who writes alot of insightful comments, you sure do write alot of smarta** comments to go along with them too. Get over yourself man.

Aced them both easily. They were more introductory than anything but helped you to think conceptually with underlining guiding principles and theories.

Ive got a line up of 4 3D modeling courses to take for my BS. I'm super stoked for them too. My first course starts in Sept.
In the meantime you can download a Maya learner edition for free from Alias and start doing tutorials.
I did one where I modeled and animated a solar system in my free time.
It's good stuff.

Good price. I do wish that Guerilla would provide some SP DLC though. The short length of KZ3 came as a disappointment after they tried so hard to tout it as a being a heavily story driven game. Enough so to make me wait for a price drop. But, if they were to release extra campaign missions that add to the story and take place in the midst of what was already on the disc (or perhaps afer it, I'm not familiar with the ending, so I can't gauge whether it would be reasonable), I'd be more than willing to pay full price (or close to it depending on length) when a retail rerelease of a complete edition were to come about.
Peace.

Haven't played it yet, so I can't say for sure. I as merely commenting that it feels as though a heavily story driven game should last longer than 7 hours to me. Also, do you think that SP DLC could be added in the middle of the campaign, as Ubisoft did with AC2, or would it work to have following on from the end of it, or would it be better for Guerilla to do KZ4?

It took me about 6+ hours to complete my first play through. It was short but it was such a blast I hardly noticed.

As for SP DLC...hmm...They might be able to do something. I'd have to run through the campaign again just to be sure but I personally would rather just see a Killzone 4 with a bit longer campaign and a better ending.

EDIT: I should also mention that when I said the "first game" I meant Killzone 2. Since it was the first on PS3. I never completed Killzone on PS2.

For real Jawknee...glad you enjoyed the story, but I didn't digg is one bit or as well as I hoped in better words based off the story trailer. It started off good and had a few touching moments, but the heavy emphasis on hollywood action was kind of meh compared to the pacing of KZ2. As a blockbuster, it succeeds and thats all you can ask for when it comes to FPS right?

I loved Killzone 2's campaign; I call it that rather than storymode because, well, I can't even remember the story :P It did kinda take a back-seat. But I loved how the game was paced, how you went to different enviroments all the time (despite everyone calling it brown/grey; really it wasn't: their was different SHADES of brown/grey dammit. :P), everything was new. It was like the perfect FPS campaign in my eyes, well, minus the downright make-you-want-to-tear-your-eyeballs-out ending. I feel like I could play it in 10 years time and still enjoy it, much like MGS1. It takes some game to do that.

Liam, color pallet whining is annoying, I agree.

Like many films, filters and color muting is used to set the tone or vibe of a presentation. Critically acclaimed games like MGS and KZ have opted for such stylizations, even GTA3. It can be a powerful tool to invoke emotion without the viewer realizing it.
The tone of some games can fittingly complement bright high contrasting color.
KZ2 fittingly added grit by using the filmic presentation it chose, and I applaud them for that.

Aye temjin, I see you've done your homework :D

It's like in LBP2; (wacky theory incoming lol) when you play some uber epic looking level, you think 'right, that's it. Ama make that!'. You go into create mode, make your stuff and then your like..'So umn...when does it start to look uber epic??'. You play it and there's literally no atmosphere. Then you go back into create mode and change the lighting settings...

Have a spooky theme? Tone down the lighting, use external lights sparingly, etc. Have a nice happy level? Lot's of lights/different colours, etc. It's honestly scary how much of an impact a level has on you changes when you change the lighting..

Film directors genrally are; they know how to touch on every single emotion of a person.

Oh and I gotta ask about the art & design courses; how hard are they? :P
See I go to collage in one year and I'm taking design/IT courses (specifics of which I'm yet to decide- 3-D modelling sounds good to me atm). The thing is I just have NO idea what I'm going into, I've wanted to work in the gaming industry in some fasion since I was like 10, so I have the ambition, I just don't know if I have/will have the ability. ATM in school I'm genrally getting C's to B's, with the odd B-borderlinig A mark, not sure if that's good enough or not. Care to enlighten me?

Then again when the inFamous 2 DLC rolls around (not sure if there is actually going to be some but I have a very large hunch from their website still having a blank areas) I will most definitively buy that.

Even though this is good...there's a problem with DLC maps. Once a match is completed on any one of these maps, you are locked on these maps and can't choose a new one after your done. That really sucks. I have both released map packs already, but I might just sit back on this one if it isn't free as the first two were. Don't feel like paying for maps I most likely won't play as often due to the problem I already mentioned. Good MP action though...terrible spawn points system though in warzone still.

kz3 is a great online game even though i think the campign was too short. i had 4 hr 51 minutes of game time spent with kz3 during the campign.

kz does not get a lot of sales for some reason despite being a stellar game in a popular genre. kz3's are actually lagging behind kz2's when you compare the amount of sales both games had during the same amount of time. interesting, becuase the ps3's install base is a lot higher now. could it be the review scores or is it the changes made in the controls?

the problem with the dlc is that so few seem to have them when you play online.

Exactly, I've run into this problem in other games. Or just the opposite.
In Warhawk I was getting dropped or not accepted in a large portion of games because I didn't have all of the many expansion packs... At the time that is. I know the complete DLC is like $5 right now.
