SCEA: 90% Of PSN Usage Returns Post-Hack Attack
The PlayStation Network is back but the ripples of the hacker attack haven't died out yet.
Sony made a point of addressing the major issue to lead off their E3 2011 press conference, and SCEA president Jack Tretton gave a recent Canadian interview where he elaborated on the current situation.
"All I can tell you is we're more secure than we've ever been, and more focused than we've ever been at it."
After 77 million user accounts were exposed to digital intruders, Sony had to scramble to rebuild both their Network and consumer trust. But as many security experts will tell you, our personal information is exposed on a daily basis all over the world. And Tretton reminds us that we voluntarily indulge in the "social networking age."
"People are concerned about their personal data at all times. The irony of that is we live in a social networking age where people can't wait to tell everybody what they did over the last two minutes, where they did it, who they did it with.
People throw their personal data around extensively, but I think they'd prefer to do it voluntarily than have somebody do it for them."
As of now, Tretton says the PSN usage is back to "90% of what it was prior to the hacking incident" and yet, many still aren't satisfied with Sony's compensation and apology. In this respect, the SCEA boss can only shrug his shoulders and say:
"I think every consumer has the right to want whatever they want, and if they don't feel that a company delivers that, they have the right to do business elsewhere."

Subscription services are a perfect example. One signed up, if it is a nominal $10 dollars a month for something; even if you are not using that often, why stop it... why change?
Time and effort to re-organise ones affairs can be stressful and strain, and yet it is so important to do so and to keep oneself "optimised".

Heard this morning that SEGA was hacked and customer info stolen (no CC info) and ANONYMOUS volunteered their services to track down the offenders!
This makes, I think, the 8th cyber-attack since the 360 Marketplace CC hack at the end of April this year!
And now the hackers want to HELP!? Don't do it SEGA! You'll just be giving them the "Go Ahead" for a massive back door!

4 free games and a free month of PSN Plus isn't enough?
It's a FREE service! So our free service was down for a month and now we feel entitled to additional compensation for not having access to something we didn't have to pay for in the first place...

the only thing i have to say about the hack is i was really surprised by the extent of the data breach, and the length of the outage.

The influence of the Eye of Moron is sadly far in excess of the size of the actual Eye itself...

As a former wrestling fan, all I ask is for good wrestling, not sports entertainment, lame acting or authority figures mucking up the works. Since they won't listen to me, I won't watch that crap and will just stick to MMA.
I don't know what these video gamers want. I know what I want and the PS3 gives it to me. Great games, great exclusives, free online for a casual online gamer like myself and lots of good stuff out of the box. Yet others seem controlled by peer pressure, video game websites and the "eye of the moron" as you call it.

it's good psn security is stronger now, but i can't see how having the biggest hack in gaming history can be viewed as a positive for sony.

Personally, I LOVED the free goodies that Sony gave us and I couldn't ask for more. The only thing that's somewhat disappointed me is that we were promised multiple PS Store updates during the first few weeks to make up for the five lost weeks and that only lasted one week. There's a LOT of missed games/demoes that I'd like to get my hands onto.

Now, the system has to rebuild it's self when I start it. I think I shall stay away from PS Home until I hear that all is working well with it. If anyone can please keep me posted whether or not they too are having difficulties, I would greatly appreciate it.
