Sources: Rockstar Cranking On GTAV
While we're all hoping for a new Red Dead announcement, we also need Grand Theft Auto V. Badly.
So when will they spill the beans on that one? Well, according to sources close to Take-Two, GTAV will "likely" launch next year, and development is "well under way." We have no extra details but they do say some finishing touches - i.e., mini-games - are currently being applied. So might we expect an early 2012 release? Current evidence says fans should expect a setting similar to Los Angeles and a bunch of colorful California characters. This fan still recommends that GTA go international somehow but hey, I'm fairly convinced the developers know what they're doing. Just give us GTAV and everything will be right with the world.
And right about the time you fully unveil the fifth GTA, you can go ahead and announce "Red Dead...um...Betrayal?" How's that sound?

Or, simply for coolness's sake, Red Dead Retribution.

I know it will more than likely be an overall better game than the new Saints Row, but Damn Saints Row The Third looks like non-stop fun.
Have you guys seen the stage demo with the character beating people with Dildo Bats and calling in Artillery strikes.

But I'm a bit tired of the comparisons with GTA everywhere, placing SR in the shadow of the giant.
It's about time they get acknowledged for being a IP of their own. Only saints Row is Saints Row!

I wouldn't call Saints Row an IP, it was way too similar to GTA. However, they did take SR1 and SR2 into different directions. R* went with the more serious GTA4, while SR made a statement that they would go all out with the crazy, wacky, funny, all about fun parts of the game that GTA4 abandoned. So while SR has differentiated itself, it's not an IP.

So what's the conceptual differences between Killzone, Call Of Duty, Battlefield, Crysis, Far Cry and Resistance, just to pick some random shooters from the top of my head. Are they not individual IPs either? Are all the current war themed fps just COD clones? All sci-fi/horror fps are just DOOM clones?
Have you even played Saints Row? The atmosphere, story and style (or lack thereof) of SR makes it a very different game than GTA, and *especially* GTAIV. You can't say that because it's fun, open world and the story goes on in modern day city it's not an IP of it's own cause it is, both from a legal and practical perspective.

You can even change everything about the looks of your character during the game (in the middle of the story) too, there's no limits, just fun. :)

And what's the bet that Anon drops in with a comment about developers announcing more games than they put out?
Peace.

in other breaking news Ferrari have a new car in development, and apple are developing a new phone!
i mean come on, how is this news?
talk about stating the obvious!
to be frank though i dont want a new GTA.
i just know its going to be the same as GTAIV and i cant take another disappointment like that!
i wish games could go back to being about fun, and not being about uber realism!
the whole point of playing games is to escape reality, do things you never could in real life!
soon ill have the cops knocking on my door because i went through a red light in saints row 3!

A new Red Dead I certainly could use though. I love the western theme and I would assume all the kinks from the first would be worked out. Can't wait to see what they come up for the next installment!

All of the GTA games from the last generation share the same universe. GTAIV was a new universe and I'm sure they'll keep it that way. Personally I hope they it somewhere else, I don't want to see a new Vice City or the cities that made up San Andreas.
