DICE's Andersson Goes Silent Due To "Troll Journalists"
And we don't blame him even a little bit.
For some time now, various eye-catching headlines have been produced based on new Battlefield 3 details from developer DICE. Some of those headlines have come from Rendering Architect Johan Andersson's Twitter page, and after several articles were made that either twisted Andersson's words or made rash assumptions, the DICE employee is through dishing on BF3 details. He did have a few parting messages, though:
"To reaffirm, we are optimizing #bf3 for _all_ platforms to take advantage of their resp. strengths & create an awesome shooter experience."
"I love talking directly to gamers, but too many troll journalists out there so think I’ll have to shut up about #bf3 details for now, bye."
The last might've been due to a particularly scathing Examiner headline that read, "DICE Favoring Xbox on Consoles After Cursing Out PS3 Fans." Andersson was annoyed at the source taking what he said a little out of context, and replied on his Twitter feed- "Omg, he didn’t even post the tweet I was replying to. sigh." You know, we sort of saw this coming.
In order to get attention and traffic, game journalists have taken to "spicing up" their headlines. The actual content doesn't always reflect the headline and sometimes, the information is grossly exaggerated or there's 99% assumptions and very little actual news. We could say that we saw all those headlines, that we compared them to what DICE has said in the past month, and knew that all we could do was create more sensationalistic headlines...and we didn't.
But once again, the culture of online gaming journalism is making us all look bad. :(

It's clear that the vast majority only read headlines. Otherwise, the tactics of these journalists wouldn't work. The only solace I take is that this isn't much different than other journalism now. ;)

Sadly, though, a lot of PC and 360 blowhards had to camp it up believing EVERY PS3 owner had deluded themselves into thinking a PS3 is more capable than i7 equipped and over clocked, liquid nitrogen cooled ultra rig of the future. NOBODY thought that-NOBODY and yet these stories got read to the point Dice have taken this stance and stopped to talking to ALL of us.
I just hope the gamers on every platorm realise just who messed this one up and steer clear of blaming the Sony crowd this time round. Every platform has a few idiots who don't get tech but the amount of suposedly level headed PC/360fanvoys I've seen revelling in the "idiocy" of the fanboy infested waters of the PSN over this has amazed me. The stories only stayed hot because the people supported the ludicrous claims because they MADE THEM FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES for a minute so bugger whether its, y'know, half believable!
I've been shown up many times by fellow PS3 gamers but I've never been as ashamed to call ANY of them(even the idiots who were annoyed with Dice to start with, all five of them, as their only crime is being thick)my peer as I have been with those who supported this BS from day one. I now have more people making me feel bad about PC and 360 gaming than I EVER have about PS and it's buyers and fanatics.
It's like the whole bunch of them have had their reading skills eroded by the nonsense we all suffered, every two seconds a new story, with the PSN hack and outage so that now they feel they can believe ANY old shite that gets put on ANY site or ANY blog just as long as it fits their purpose and worldview.
Dice have already shown that they understand it IS a tiny minority of deluded PS3 owners who were used to make this into a story and that by answering these questions to fans they're also serving a brigade of lazy, non journalists(without so much as a single vocational qualification between them)willing to twist whatever they say into the most attractive shape for the zealous 360 and PC fanboys to chow down on.
Dice are right to stop the feeding fenzy but it's mighty sad that gamers, in their haste to condemn and laugh at other gamers, have made it possible at all when talking to us helped both Dice and us as they could make the game better by addressing our concerns-make it better for EVERYONE wherever they might game.

This whole thing rumbles on because of the fanboys in the "media" AND those in the comments. They justify each other because they WANT things to be the way they are written and not the way they actually are and there's no symbiosis like that on TV. The fanboy blogger feeds the fanboy comments which feed the fanboy blogger and so on. It's such a feeding freenzy that anyone purporting to show them any common sense will instantly be abused and shouted down as a PS3 fantard-so comfy have they grown in their self imposed ignorance. It's slimy and embarrassing for ALL gamers.
What I DON'T get is why the level of hate for Sony? Why the level of hate for their gamers? Why?Sony have done as much as Nintendo and more than MS ever has to bring gaming to the masses and continue to support casual and core alike-again, what have we all done? I'm sure there's just as many Wii and 360 owners out there who have no idea about bleeding edge PC performance as the handful of dimwits these articles were based on but OUR goons were picked on.Why? It'snot a representative slice of PS life, it's a tiny non existent minority. Stop it FFS.

if developers talk the talk like that they better be able to blow people away when they show a game. i knew ea has had a habit of showing pc footage. i remember how great i thought the moh screenshots looked. the console game itself didn't look neearly as good.

The ONLY blame for EA and Die is that they could, maybe, have seen which way this was heading before showing on JF as there were a lot of comments woried it would be WORSE afer no copnsole stuff got shown at E3. sime of those comments had started to pick on the way Dice had said things unfsirly even at that time so EA could have guessed a dew people would cry foul when the PS3 version wasn't1080p. Then again, it'sa TINY crime and we shouldn't be so daft as to expct a console game six years into the cycle to match a PC from this year's performance.
It's just as true that MOST PC owners won't match that performance either-most of us don't have rigs upgraded enough to show BF3 at top[ settings and Those PC owners without new rigs don't kick off, do they? I stand by this being an inflated and BS story overall.

Examiner and Kotaku need such real-life deterrents in their offices, I think. The internet is free for all of us, I realize this, the problem is...some people don't deserve to be free. Their actions and their lack of self-restraint, dictate that someone must always be a surrogate parent to them.
It's sad, but we are human, after all. Can't expect much.

As far as BF3 goes, they brought this on themselves. I could have told you all of this was coming. You don't wear a meat vest to a dog fight.

If dev's are that uptight about their tweeting being taken out of context, they shouldn't be tweeting. And if they need it for free marketing, then they should be hiring a Public Relations person to do it for them. That way, foot is never (or rarely) inserted into mouth. A PR person's job is to make it hard to be misunderstood in a way that would bring upon negativity. lol
Anyways, it's not media he should be getting mad at. Media is media is media. It's the way it is. If you can't take the blame for writing something that could be misunderstood, don't blame the people that need to make a living on news. Blame the morons that only read the headline and never the article.

that on rails kinect fable game shown at e3 is a great example of shooting yourself in the foot. i read on cvg were peter m. said that kinect in fact does have limmatations becuase it doesn't have buttons, or a navigation controller. he admitted that navigation is tough on kinect, but said kinect does a great job of capturing and conveying emotions. whatever that means.

I just watched the "pre-alpha" trailer of BF3's "Thunder Run" battle tank gameplay, and all I got to say is "WOW" .
Those tanks are moving at a good 40-45 MPH clip & still....the incredible detailing of the shrubs & tire tracks alone, as they're zooming right over them, is just simply amazing to watch.
And also watching those massive explosions from the A-10 Warthogs & Jets as they roared over and dropped their payloads had my jaw dropping too.

So many trolls nowadays, actually. I didn't expect journalism to be one of them.
