Sledgehammer's "Action/Adventure" CoD Isn't Dead

We once heard about a rumor concerning an "action/adventure" Call of Duty, supposedly in development at Activision's Sledgehammer Studios.

Unsurprisingly, the publisher is laser-focused on the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 but executive Eric Hirshberg told Industry Gamers that despite their necessary focus, Sledgehammer's project hasn't fallen by the wayside. Said Hirshberg:

"We haven’t announced the future slate or future plans for the studio. They were originally working on an extension of the Call of Duty franchise into an action/adventure genre and that’s a game I still want to play. That’s a supreme, incredible group doing that. All I can say is right now they’re 100% focused on Modern Warfare 3."

Of course, the big question is- will such a title appeal to the hardcore CoD fans? Don't they just want a shooter? And how would an "action/adventure" CoD title work, really? These are questions that even Activision can't answer right now; when asked if such a move would be a smart direction for the franchise, Hirshberg simply responded- "It remains to be seen."

If they did a more story-fied action adventure based in the CoD universe with a nice smattering of male and female characters, even I might be willing to give it a look, but if it's nothing more than a shooter dressed up as action adventure, count me out.

Perhaps a "story-fied" third-person shooter set in the COD war universe it might actually turn out to be..Stay tuned!

Im 100% open to something new in the CoD franchise. Most gamers besides the uber CoD fans know that CoD is quickly running out of steam. I think they could save the franchise if they could come up with some major inovation for the next installment, but if not I give it till the next InfinityWard installment, then the franchise is done.

I think MW3 will be successful, but people will express fatigue in the series, even hardcore CoD fanboys. The next Treyarch installment will receive a lot of flack, but people will say InfinityWard's next installment will be better, and when it's not, that will be the end of CoD. That is my prediction to what will happen to the CoD franchise unless there is some real innovation in the next two installments.

If I remember right, I believe I had read a article early on when they were first announced as a COD new-hire, they were going to do a whole new futuristic "in space" kind of COD.

The words "Call of Duty" remain sour in my ears still, but if done properly, this could put an end to that. I always like it when companies know when to innovate, (at which Activision has been consistently bad.) I actually want to like Activision again, but they haven't done anything to make that happen yet. This could be a step in that direction.

CoDcharted? Yeah, I like me an action/adventure game, though there's plenty already coming out, so I'm wondering how this one will set itself out from the crowd, besides being based in a war setting and having the CoD name, because neither of those is enough to pique my interest.

Call of Duty action/adventure? Nah, I would rather see an Amnesia 2 (even though CoD is already point and click,at least most of the time)

I've never played a COD game.... not because of all the people bashing it..... But because it was a FPS and I don't play FPS type games, so it could possibly be interesting if it had a good story but what the hell would it play like though I mean seriously???

I don't think they're core COD fanbase would like that very much they don't seem to care for story so they'd probably be pissed if they switch it up on em'.
