Black Ops Becomes Best-Selling Title In UK History

Love it or hate it, the numbers are historic and that most certainly qualifies as big news.

Call of Duty: Black Ops already has the distinction of being the best-selling video game of all time in the U.S.; now it's time to give the mega-huge blockbuster from Treyarch and Activision that very same crown in a different region.

According to new results from Gfk ChartTrack (as cited by CVG), Black Ops is now the best-selling game of all time in the UK: the sales total has reached 3,722,411 as of June 25, which tops the previous record-holder, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which registered 3,702,410 copies in the UK. As for the US, Treyarch's 2010 production hit 13.7 million units, which may seem downright insane but hey, such is the way of the biggest thing since sliced bread. Can Modern Warfare 3 set the records again...?

The overall worldwide tally may be approaching 21 million, by the way.

A round if applause for Treyarch for achieving such a milestone, again.

But I can't help but think, does CoD really deserve it? There are far better, deeper and more engaging games out there, but COD is just really easy to pick up and play. The amount of social pressure to play with friends is phenomenal and I guess that is evident in sales.

I know it won't happen, but I hope BF3 will top the next CoD and I hope that the Elite service will have few paying users, cos the stuff offered for free seems to be more than enough.

Honestly, I'd rather put the money towards PS Plus and get extra free games rather than pay to play one game very deeply. That's what trophies and achievements are for!! :D

Yes, it is a pick an play game, which means it's more accessible and friendly, therefore it will likely have a higher profit.

I like the game, but it honestly doesn't deserve to be the milestone status it is at right now. It just doesn't feel right, and I'm a big Call of Duty fan.

I can't help but feel kinda proud i'm part of setting that milestone. On the other hand they aren't doing their consumers any favor by not improving the game and recycling old material...Way to show your thanks to the fans Activison.

I, on the other hand, feel more proud that I've never bought a COD game each time I hear news like this.

I guess that makes me an elitist snob. ;P

I am not a fan of Black Ops, but anytime a game becomes the biggest seller, it's news, even it's predictable.

how does a broken, unbalanced, graphically awful franchise sell so much, this saddens me.

A bunch of people love and play it!!!

I know, it's really fun and addicting but I managed to break away from it recently to play fallout 3

FALLOUT 3 is so awesome except it's technical glicths and freezing :(

If it gets to bad, delete your game data, that fixed almost all of the problems for me!
