Square Enix: A Final Fantasy HD Collection Is Possible
High-definition remakes are big these days. And if they're selling, why not make more?
Perhaps a Final Fantasy VII remake is out of the question, but why can't the PS2 generation FF installments find new life in the world of HD?
No reason, really, and Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase has confirmed that if there's a "strong enough voice," they'd "seriously consider" a high-definition collection of some classic titles. He adds that they haven't made up their minds yet and for now, there are no plans to remake the likes of Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, and/or Final Fantasy XII in HD. But you know, we're not buying this whole "strong enough voice" thing. There's something about it that doesn't quite ring true...what is it...let me think...oh yes:
You want a big fan outcry? Is that what you want? You mean, like the one that has been going on for about a decade concerning FFVII? That kind of outcry? We're not sure you'd notice a gathering of fans with torches and pitchforks standing outside your doors, Square Enix. So forgive us for being a little skeptical.

It's really not us that has to prove anything or show you proof of what we want from you, Square-Enix. Frankly, we've done enough of that without you listening.
It is you that has to redeem yourselves and "prove" your worth to us. For godsakes, my patients is starting to run on empty for these guys.

I'm actually starting to suspect that Versus is actually getting worked on by a relatively small team within Square-Enix as opposed to the company as a whole. But that's good in a way. If as is supposedly the case Yoichi Wada did agree not to interfere with the development of Versus then it does stand to reason that he wouldn't really care to divert more of the companies funds and resources toward it. And this in turn makes the idea of a 360 port somewhat less plausible. I think Versus will at the very least be a timed PS3 exclusive.

That's why it's taking so long you say?
I doubt that. Final Fantasy XIII took only two years to complete. It's the same for it's direct sequel. And both of those games are ported to the 360. Porting a game to the 360 doesn't take all that much time and effort. It's a well-known fact that the system is easy to work with.
And besides, by all accounts the game isn't even finished yet, to say nothing of a possible port.
And Versus is pretty much the baby of Tetsuya Nomura, a known PS3 fan. And Yoichi Wada currently has every reason not to make Nomura unhappy and risk losing him altogether. The absolute last thing Square-Enix needs right now is more bad publicity. It's pretty much a sure thing that losing Nomura would cause Square-Enix's stocks to take another hit.
And yes FFXIII did sell a decent amount on the 360, but it sold much more on the PS3. It wouldn't be a wise business decision to alienate a large portion of those consumers, especially with the companies reputation in the balance.
So I would say it's probably reasonable to assume that Versus will at least be a timed exclusive.

I for one still have a little faith in Nomura, NOt SE as a whole but Nomura and the KH team.
We have seen sum decent games from SE this gen. Evn tho PS3 never got them The Last Remnant and Lost odysee werent bad. Not to mention Crisis Core and Birth By Sleep. And I for one am avtually enjoying Final Fantasy XIII its a great game, its just not a great FF, if it had been called something else or atleast not be a numbered FF fans wouldnt have been so pissed off.
Im still looking forward to FFVXIII and FF Type 0. Birth by Sleep is amasing the amount of variety in attack types and melding, its so damn sweet.

You already have a lot on your plate, right? Before you consider remaking the older FFs, how about finishing FF Versus XIII and FF Type-0 first? And yes, what kind of demand are they looking for? FF VII has almost everyone clamoring for it since they showed that tech demo for the PS3 way back in 2006!

I don't know. If Square-Enix went bankrupt it might give Sony a golden opportunity to step in and acquire them. This would likely solve one of the biggest problems currently plaguing SE. This is that in Square-Enix the practice of executive meddling has become commonplace. Sony on the other hand generally takes a hands-off approach when it comes to game development. One of the best examples of this would be the development of Heavy Rain. Sony placed a great deal of faith in Quantic Dream even though there was absolutely no guarantee that the game would be a financial success.

Do they deliberately ignore what their fans request?
